Always run the game once through Steam/GOG after installing it to generate .ini files! Vortex users: Install FOSE 1.3b2 manually in Fallout 3 folder after patching, do NOT use a suggested "Fallout Script Extender" option in Vortex!
- I'm getting "Invalid executable" error - Verify game files on Steam or GOG.
- FOSE does not work - use Fallout3.exe, not fose_loader.exe. Doublecheck that you have FOSE 1.3b2 installed manually in Fallout 3 folder.
- My antivirus thinks this is a trojan - It's not, add the file to exclusions of your antivirus.
- I'm trying to install the patch with a mod manager and it doesn't work - It's a patch, not a mod. Read the description for installation instructions.
- The game works but steam overlay and playtime don't work - You have to start the game through Steam for that to work, since Fallout 3 does not use Steamworks integration.
- Patcher window opens and immediately closes, game is still unpatched - Install the redistributables linked in the requirements of the patcher.
- My game still crashes - If you followed all instructions correctly, it's most likely unrelated to the patch.
If you have just installed the game, you need to run FalloutLauncherSteam.exe (or FalloutLauncher.exe for GOG) before running the game to generate INI files.
If not, try deleting the ini files in Documents/My Games/Fallout 3 and running FalloutLauncherSteam.exe (or FalloutLauncher.exe for GOG) again.
If you are using Mod Organizer 2 and the game won't start through it, you probably created your MO2 instance before generating ini files. Create a new one through instance selection dialog (button below "File" in the top-left corner), or disable "profile-specific ini files" in MO2 profile settings, or copy ini files over manually if you know how to do that.
Clean reinstall of the game helped stop crashes for some users (uninstall the game on Steam, delete the installation folder, delete everything except saves in Documents/My Games/Fallout 3, reinstall the game)
Seems to be not launching at all for me. Original exe works, though.
I tried verifying integrity, reinstalling the required redistributables, and deleting my fallout3 folder in documents, but the game just won't launch with this patcher installed.
Not even a window or an error shows up for me. Sad. :(
EDIT: It works now lol. Had to tick off some stuff in my windows settings..
Doesn't work. I can patch it, but the patched executable terminates as soon as I click on it. I currently don't have FOSE installed. Vanilla executable works fine, and even the old version I have a backup of does.
Had the same problem. I deleted my Fallout 3 folder that contains the ini files and reran the FalloutLauncher executable and the game booted up fine. Managed to install FOSE afterwards too perfectly fine.
it and FOSE wont find the exe, even they are in the English Folder (Goty) and the fallout3.exe wont start (no Message) i have the game from Epic beause it was free there
I just installed Fallout 3 and I have download FOSE 1.3 and I have downloaded the Patcher, they are both in the Fallout3 goty folder with the Fallout3.exe and the patcher says the game has been patched, yet FOSE says I have a unknown Fallout game. I am unable to launch the game through steam either. Please help.
Edit: I found the problem, if you are using NVidia graphics card, go into settings and force fallout 3 to choose the power saving mode graphics card as fallout 3 is to old to use a modern high tech graphics card.
until it didn't. just randomly fose decided it wouldn't recognize this version. i had a character going and everything. i have no idea what to do anymore.
EDIT: remembering that you said you could delete fose_launcher.exe i did so and wouldn't you know it: vortex was trying to launch with that. once again vortex thinks it knows better and if it has the option to stop doing this, it has it buried deep somewhere.
if anyone else has this issue, here's how you fix it. delete fose_launcher.exe (script extended mods will still work) attempt to run through vortex. check the errors it gives you for the one that says it changed the executable to the default one. then run again and crash again. then go to the message warning you that you have no fose installed and click ignore. vortex will literally close the game every time you run it because you didn't read its suggestion.
Everytime I use the anniversary patch it deletes my fallout3.exe file and wont let me launch the game from either the exe since it just deletes it, or the fallout 3 launcher, I can only get this to work by installing the fallout 3 downgrader instead where I get no problems after installing games for windows live, what am I doing wrong please help it seems to be very consistent

thing, in the offsite requirements tab? The installation video completely skipped it IIRC...
