Always run the game once through Steam/GOG after installing it to generate .ini files! Vortex users: Install FOSE 1.3b2 manually in Fallout 3 folder after patching, do NOT use a suggested "Fallout Script Extender" option in Vortex! Laptop users with two graphics adapters in their system: change preferred graphics adapter to NVIDIA GPU in NVIDIA Control Panel!
- I'm getting "Invalid executable" error - Verify game files on Steam or GOG.
- FOSE does not work - use Fallout3.exe, not fose_loader.exe. Doublecheck that you have FOSE 1.3b2 installed manually in Fallout 3 folder.
- My antivirus thinks this is a trojan - It's not, add the file to exclusions of your antivirus.
- I'm trying to install the patch with a mod manager and it doesn't work - It's a patch, not a mod. Read the description for installation instructions.
- The game works but steam overlay and playtime don't work - You have to start the game through Steam for that to work, since Fallout 3 does not use Steamworks integration.
- Patcher window opens and immediately closes, game is still unpatched - Install the redistributables linked in the requirements of the patcher.
- My game still crashes - If you followed all instructions correctly, it's most likely unrelated to the patch.
If you have just installed the game, you need to run Fallout3Launcher.exe (or FalloutLauncher.exe for GOG) before running the game to generate INI files.
If not, try deleting the ini files in Documents/My Games/Fallout 3 and running FalloutLauncherSteam.exe (or FalloutLauncher.exe for GOG) again.
If you are using Mod Organizer 2 and the game won't start through it, you probably created your MO2 instance before generating ini files. Create a new one through instance selection dialog (button below "File" in the top-left corner), or disable "profile-specific ini files" in MO2 profile settings, or copy ini files over manually if you know how to do that.
Clean reinstall of the game helped stop crashes for some users (uninstall the game on Steam, delete the installation folder, delete everything except saves in Documents/My Games/Fallout 3, reinstall the game)
- Open start_menu.xml in Data/Menus/Options with DarnUI installed - find the <_isPauseMenu> line - Change <eq> 9 </eq> to <eq> 8 </eq> two lines under <_isPauseMenu> (line 51) Alternatively you can edit the Data/Menus/Prefabs/DUIF3Settings.xml file instead of using the in-game menu.
***UPDATE*** It turns out my anti-virus had flagged the download as suspicious and containing trojans [see others' posts]. I had a pop-up window I hadn't noticed alerting me to this. Once I selected the option to use the folder anyway, I could unzip and use as instructed. I can now play the game and it works just fine! Thank you, lStewieAl - c6! ***UPDATE***

Extraction Wizard won't let me extract the .zip folder. When I ask it to extract, it says:
"Access to the archive is denied
Before you can extract files, you must change permissions for this archive
To close this wizard click finish"
This is also an exact copy of the formatting - for some reason it changes line in the middle of a sentence.
I can't see any permissions I don't have ticked in my favour, as it were, and can't see anything obvious to make the wizard work.
Any thoughts?
Trying to run the game on Windows 11 with Intel evo i7 Intel Xe Integrated graphics through Steam with the workaround mod. It's possible the workaround isn't installed correctly as the instructions asked me to put d3d9.dll in 'the Fallout 3 map' so I put it in steamapps-common-fallout 3 goty-Fallout3 and the other file is just in the common-fallout 3 goty file. I also have an xlive.dll file in the general game folder.
So that i can get achievements. I already figured out how to downgrade to the old version and managed to connect to GFWL. Other than autologin failing 99% of the time, so far so good. Already did Power of atom :] (this is my first time playing)

When I click on DUI F3, on the menu, it doesn't open the DUI Settings.
Maybe I need to make some changes in the DUI XML...
Anybody got any tips on what should be changed?
