For anyone that's interested, I just released the Vanilla version of FNV - Better Messages if you own a copy of Fallout New Vegas. Expect the Better Messages Plus version of it to be out within the next day or two as an optional file similar to how it's set up here. Thank you all far your support so far on this mod for Fallout 3 and I hope that everyone continues to enjoy their time with it!
I've run into this problem where whenever one of my limbs is crippled, the game crashes. Made a post on reddit with my load order and list of mods and someone pointed me to this mod as being the cause. As soon as I disabled the plugin, the problem was gone. Not sure which end was the problem, but would like to let you know. It was FO3 - Better Messages Plus btw
Thank you for bringing this to my attention, I wasn't aware of it but I'll be checking and trying to diagnose the problem as soon as I have a little free time. It's most likely something to fix on my end. For now, I'd advise anyone experiencing crashes to try removing the "+" symbol that I have included in the ESP name though I'm not sure that'll help any. Sorry to have this happen to you and anybody else, I'll figure out what's going on there.
I'm sure I could if I had the conversion tool and proper files, but I don't as I run my FO3 and F:NV separately. I'm completely fine with someone making a TTW conversion of this mod so long as I'm credited if anyone with the tools and the want sees this, but it may be worth waiting until my F:NV - Better Messages file for New Vegas is done so you'd be able to have both converted.
while others exist of this caliber, yours is the best one available with most personality. while others just go for 1st person text, theyre still too robotic for my taste where as yours nails it by adding some humour and human aspects to it like a normal person would :) oh and you worked with the DLCs as well thats another great feature of yours. Endorsed!
I haven't played Nuketown2050's version, but I'm confident in saying that I add more details to the messages and responses to those messages as opposed to just changing them from a 2nd person perspective to 1st person perspective. I keep all messages very close to the original vanilla intent with them but add additional descriptors and change the sentence structure, move around commas and add sentences in order to help the player feel a better sense of immersion while interacting with their world. Additionally, I've changed the vanilla perk descriptions from 2nd person to 1st person, though these changes are much more basic, similar to the Fallout 3 Text Overhaul with basic You's to I's, Your's to My's and that sort of thing, with occasional extra descriptors to give perks a bit of flavor, the changes to the 'Bloody Mess' perk in the images section is a good example of some changes while keeping very true to the original message.
Last but not least, I've been working on the same thing for all 5 DLC and their added perks as well for the past day which is just about ready for release as a separate optional file. Hopefully this helps to highlight some of the differences between my mod and the Fallout 3 Text Overhaul by Nuketown2050.
Thank you so much for your elaborate answer. Almost releasing the 5 DLCs as an optional is what made me decide to stick around and wait for that release. You do spend a significant time on detail, and I like that.
I'll be anxiously awaiting the release. Appreciating your efforts so far.
So glad you decided to stick around! Yeah, just after finishing up my response to you I went back into the G.E.C.K with a fresh cup of coffee and finished up with my Point Lookout edits. I've got pictures included for both Point Lookout and Operation Anchorage, a small snippet from each at the moment anyways, as I don't have starter save points for all DLCs right now so I'm still running to them as I get time to take some good screenshots for everyone to get a good look here first before they take the time to download.
It's available in the "Main File" section as FO3 - Better Messages Plus, just download it instead of the V1.0 and you're all set! Once again thank you for taking the time to stick around and check it out. I really hope you enjoy the messages in your game, let me know if there's anything weird that sticks out so I can put it on a fix list!
That's great to hear, when I woke up this morning this comment helped me get started with my day. It's always my goal to bring fresh gameplay and immersion when it comes to my development on Fallout 3 mods so far, it's what I strive for when I'm making them in my spare time. Hope you enjoy the mod, and feel free to let me know what you think after you've played around with it a bit!
