I haven't checked the update yet but is there any way we can get a custom icon for the Vault 101 canteen sorry if that's already done I couldn't find the answer and I'm gonna download it later today to check
I don't know how to make a custom icon. I tried to make one and it didn't work. It just showed this amalgamation of random colours instead of what I made. After that, I decided to leave it as it was unless I found out how to actually make a custom icon that works. If you can tell me how to make one, I'll make it when I get some spare time.
Definitely an option for players who missed it the first time (or added it late). Maybe Moira could sell one to you, or one in the Jefferson Memorial? Providing an item ID to spawn in console would also be nice.
Is there no way to get the canteen if using an alternate start mod like quick start where you skip the vault ? Or is it possible to get it from a vendor? Thanks.
if your interested - there's already a mod for 101 Canteen listed in the New Vegas engine on a mod. The mod has the canteen sitting in victors shack at goodsprings. All you would have to do is is just remap the item into the Vault 101 Location. ( I don't have the mental knowledge to do so.)
Not to knock the mod as I'm sure some will want to try it and may even like it, but your description is a ways off - that is to say, not everyone loved it in Fallout New Vegas! For regular NV players all it really does is add an annoying message. And even amongst hardcore players some complained this bottomless flask was a cheat (whilst others, conversely, complained it did too little). And some (like myself), saw it as a very ham-fisted fudge to fix an over-egged dehydration-rate in NV with yet more silly gameplay - silly because it was all automated anyway.
I got FNV in 2018 so I only saw people's opinions through YouTube videos and memes so I made that conclusion that way. I've changed the description now.
In a personal mod, I'm going to use the mesh and just make a refillable bottle out of it. I think I'll let the player transfer 2 or 3 bottles of purified water to it then just have a scripted drinking system that has a Full canteen state, a 2/3rd canteen state, 1/3rd canteen state and an empty state. Like the waterskins in the iNeed mod in Skyrim.

Do wish it had an alternate pickup location though you have to add via console if you didn't start a game with the mod.

Just drop the folder into your fallout 3 folder and replace the file when prompted.
Edit: The GECK in FNV with TTW doesn't render anything so I can't see what I'm doing. For the time being, I can't do a TTW version.
