"..for obvious reasons the Fat Man in all of it's glory wasn't included in the base game ..not wanting to exactly replicate a real life bomb, and further not wanting to exactly replicate the bomb that carried out one of the most horrific and devastating events in human history - but now all that has changed, and you can... look at or detonate."
    ------------------
Firstly, the C-23 bomb Fallout 3 put in Megaton IS a very close approximation of Fat Man, and the Japanese version of the game had to be altered so that you can't detonate it - though personally I say that's a demented pandering. Not least because the eventual Hiroshima death toll was 140,000 - which though awful was (for just one example) half the number of people killed by the Japanese Army just during the Rape of Nanking alone. From it's invasion of China in1937 through to the end of WW2 in 1945, Japan murdered 10,000,000 - 10 million - civilians and prisoners of war, inc 6 million Chinese civilians. See this tally by the University of Hawaii -
    https://www.hawaii.edu/powerkills/SOD.CHAP3.HTM

Were it not for Hiroshima, the Allies would have had no choice but to invade the mainland, and the death toll would have been far worse for both sides. And Japan has still not publicly acknowledged some of the many appalling atrocities it committed in Asia during the war in which it also first raped, tortured and starved many of the 10 million men, women and children it murdered - but it is happy to play sensitive victim to pacifist and anti-nuclear feelings in some Western quarters. Was Hiroshima devastating? Well for the town yes, but not in the relative wider sense, and it avoided a worse outcome - and more horrific events happened just in WW2 itself, let alone "in human history".

Thanks man for this mod and i love your description because i know the difference between real life and a game which it seems some people struggle to know the difference.

Yes Japan are evil. USA are Saints. Soviets are Saints! UK are Saints! The world is black and white! And let's bring our opinion into a modding website about a game!

      • The names of Fat Man and Little Boy are references to the code names of the atomic bombs dropped by the United States on Japan during World War II: Little Boy was dropped on Hiroshima while Fat Man was dropped on Nagasaki. For this reason, the weapon's name has been renamed as the Nuka Launcher in the Japanese translation of both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas due to its relation to Japanese history. It is, however, still referred to as the Fat Man in dialogue. However, the Little Boy modification still retains its name.
      • The Fat Man itself is modeled after an actual nuke launcher called the M-388 Davy Crockett Tactical Nuclear Recoilless Rifle, which was developed in the 1950s.
      • The bell heard after reloading is actually the lunch bell from Bethesda Softworks’ cafeteria

from what i understand, the japanese government, towards the end of ww2, yet before the bombs were dropped, were already ready to capitulate. they could clearly see the writing on the wall, their navy was in tatters, the pacific was lost, the united states navy was now on their doorstep, hitler was defeated and thus japan faced the full attention of the allied powers, troops were beginning to redeploy from the european theater to the pacific, and, most worrying of all to the japanese, the russians are now in the war, mobilizing their forces to open a new front in the north

evidentially the japanese held out only because the united states offered only an unconditional surrender. this unconditional surrender would see the entire japanese government lose their authority and be replaced by an american provisional government, the problem with this being the japanese government also included the japanese emperor, whom at this time still was regarded in japanese culture as a near divine ruler. in addition, the unconditional surrender, as suggested by its name, provides no conditions which would see the japanese emperor spared from war crime legal proceedings.

this of course was a tough pill to swallow for the military leadership of japan, an ultimate failure. some historians believe that japanese leadership would have surrendered under the condition that the japanese emperor could retain his authority and be exempt from prosecution, the united states, worried that this condition would create some form of post war resistance was unwilling to offer anything but unconditional surrender. (in the end, after the war, the united states, under the suggestion of general macarthur, decided to spare the emperor of japan from legal proceedings anyway. )

while it most likely is very true that if the united states and its allies had to invade the mainland of japan the loses on both sides would have been immense, in actuality, the japanese government most likely would not have let it get that far. they already knew they lost. the story of immense casualties is the story that was told by the us government shortly after the war to justify the use of the atomic weapons. perhaps it is indeed what the people in charge of the united states at the time truly believed. i however dont think so because of two facts of history.

hiroshima and nagasaki were spared from any allied bombing throughout the entire war. history tells us that these two cities were specifically designated and put aside by the united states as adequate real world test sites for their new weapon.

whats even more damning in my eyes is what happened in hiroshima and nagasaki immidiately after the war. the united states took over governmental control of japan and very soon after throngs of scientists and doctors where dispatched to the refugees of these destroyed cities. they proceeded to intricately document and examine the japanese civilians who survived exposure to the radiation, however they in no way helped these people. any medical treatment would spoil the results of the experiment. an experiment to document what exactly the united state's new super weapon could do to its victims.

as an american id like to believe that my country didnt drop those bombs as an experiment, not just to see what their new weapon does, but to show the rest of the world and its enemies what this new weapon was capable of, however history suggests a different story,

but im just some armchair historian, half remembering the great many ww2 documentaries ive seen, replying to a random comment on a fallout 3 mod page, what do i know

The biggest mistake is that USA didn't do it to USSR, N.K and China.
USA had lots of time to deal with these countries when they were weak and had no nukes and now we have to suffer the consequences of that mistake.

Go to a bookstore or library and get a history book on WW2 in the Pacific before you go full white knight for a nation that murdered tens of millions of people and committed genocide and live human experiements on millions of Chinese. The two bomb drops saved millions of lives, full stop.

I'm sorry, champ "pseudo historical dog sick"? Imperial Japan murdered millions, experimented on Chinese subjects and killed tens of millions more and you're going to go full white knight because Japan, who started all of these wars I'll remind you, lost a few thousand people to two bombs that ended the war and saved millions? Sorry, you don't get to rewrite history to suit your generation outrage nonsense.

This is really great, I did find the bomb to be the ugliest asset in Fallout 3, it's just so blurry even for 3. Although I'm a little sad I must admit, with the title being the "divine" bomb I was expecting it to be covered in red or gold symbols and markings like you see the Children of atom sport in Fallout 4.

I really love the mesh, but is there any chance you could do a texture more similar to vanilla?

Thank you for your new releases. I really like the work but the yellow does look a bit new. I'm going to replace those now for the darker ones.

Excellent work. The original texture artist made it look absolutely life like and it was very well adapted for FO3 when I used it playing this morning. I really like the images posted of the darkened version. Looks stunning.

    Endorsed.

I think you should cover something prevalent in the game world and it looks utterly horrible. The toilets, the sinks and the stalls. Both Vault and Wasteland. That is just waiting for a proper re-texture. If you look it does have a slight low poly brass design and coloring. I bet you could make them look a hell of a lot better looking with brass tanks and the vanilla based marbled design. Also the bathroom flooring. The square wouldn't be too large I imagine because there are around 3-4 variations including broken tiles.
