One of the things I like about the mod is the cement barriers. Something the original devs didn't realize is that all the walls in Fallout 3 that wastelanders have constructed would be demolished by a light wind, let alone super mutants.
That's... That's the point... How would basic Wastelanders have the technology to make cement barriers like that? Especially in Big Town that's supposed to be a horrible place to live...
There is a way to make a chemen like material with some mud, chalk and dried weed and water. With a nice support of wood, wooden plank, nail, lots of stone and with a handy work you can make a decent wall strong enough a chemen one. If you check the area closely you'll see all the material they need to make walls, all around of town. And only material they suffer from radiation poisoning is water, and not for the drink so radiation is a minor danger on the wasteland! They just lazy enough to make it impossible I say
Most of Fallout as much as I love it does make humans seem like dumb slobs. Humans after 200 years given the world we actually explore has lots of survivors they would for sure develop. You don't need high technology to build walls just open up a history book or wiki and see how far back walls dated and people in the wastelands have material literally laying around for use and inspiration the cheap walls would make sense only the first few years as they build the real deal.
Truth is you'd have several versions of the NCR pop up all over the planet forming mini kingdoms and tribes by the first 100 years, the next they would be forming alliances and waging new wars to try and fully rebuild the planet, the events that lead to clean water would probably have taken place around the first 100 years given it's found tech.
These people can repair and build robots and perform advanced medical surgery, and use other assorted advanced technology, but can't figure out how to use cement/concrete? That is very odd.
Construction is an old tech and certainly in the Capital wasteland there would be some evidence or remains of work being done that people could have used for themselves. I mean it's fine and all, but it is at times a bit silly how randomly bad they are with tech.
Sorry to comment on an old thread but some of you got screwy ideas - they're kids who grew up in a cave, won't know how to build and even if they did they won't have a cement works nearby! Walls will be junk/rubble/scrap. The kids are a raider's or mutie's meat dinner waiting to happen. And that's how you find them, depressed, fatalistic, a total shambles - and some of them already taken. Anyway, what makes you think a simple 6ft high concrete wall could keep a gang of muties out? And as for the trees and greenery etc - look, if this was a half-decent place those kids would've been turfed out by the raiders down the road, or others, long, long ago.
Other than there being too much green, as it isn't lore friendly in my mind, it looks like a great mod. Make it less green, and make it lore friendly, and it would be a good mod.
I know it's Probably long dead, but I will add my opinion anyway. Beautiful looking mod! The problem, with beauty, is it is coveted by the powerful. The recently expunged residents of little lamplight would not be the entity in charge of that paradise. It would make more sense if more green areas existed, but as the only visible one for miles, it stands to reason that many many entities would be fighting over it. And who placed the cement barricade around it? I'm not saying it's all impossible...but i'd like to hear/read the story behind it!
Not a bad mod, but creates a real clash with the surrounding area. Maybe set an activator based off the oasis quest may give it a more likely reason for being.
However, I have to say that living trees and green grass completely kills Big Town's atomosphere, clahses horribly with surrounding wasteland and has no logical lore-friendly explaination.
If you will ever make a new version of this mod, I hope you would consider making an alternative version as well, without green grass and trees.
This mod looks great! I guess I could only assume in my game they did some trading with Oasis travelers (even though I uhm... killed Harold). Anyways I did have one question if anyone knows, does this slow fps for low-end computers? I'll be getting a new computer sometime soon, but it will be a while, and I was just wondering if I should just wait to download until then.
Great mod. I like the oasis in a desert. Good work. If I was to offer any suggestion it would be to make the path from the bridge to the fire barrel (And perhaps a couple other main paths) look more trodden or be plain dirt. I think it would visually enhance the great work you've already done.
