After nearly 7 years of being up on NexusMods, kcat has finally provided an official DSOAL release page on GitHub: https://github.com/kcat/dsoal/releases
As such, this old mirror has been completely outdated. I will not be updating this mod anymore and the thread will be locked. However, I will be keeping this mod up both as an archive and to raise awareness of this excellent 3D audio wrapper.
Thank you all for supporting kcat's work over the years. You can find more 3D gaming audio content uploaded regularly on 3DJ's Youtube channel, as well as my own channel once in a blue moon. For more 3D game audio discussion, join 3DJ's Discord server.
This mod is the only way to get perfect radio playback in Fallout 3 under Windows 10. The only issue is that it breaks the voice effect on power armor, intercoms and voiced pipboy logs.
MADFilter causes random crashes when selecting radio stations so this mod is the only real choice at the moment. It's frustratingly close to perfect. If only the author could find a way to restore the voice effects it'd be the engame solution to a problem that has persisted for over ten years.
Plus installing madfilter involves inserting files to windows systems manually. Won't do that especially that it didn't really fix anything and most (or i extend to almost all) old games i play ran without directly modifying Windows 10 or 11.
And it didn't "break" so much as to remove the muffling effect. Isn't so much annoyance for me.
It's a shame they still haven't fixed this. According to this it looks like IndirectSound also breaks effects. BTW, are Fallout 3, NV and The Suffering: Ties That Bind really the only three games that use these effects?
I cannot figure out how to do this:... "Go into your speaker's properties and untick "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device", then tick "Disable all sound effects" or some variation of that line" any help please, can't find the settings anywhere. windows 10
Got this to remove radio stutter. Unfortunately the fix for the 'muffled sound' this mod makes on windows 10 is not working. It is said to disable "allow applications to take exclusive control" and "enable audio enhancements" should be unticked. Having done that still does not remove the muffled problem.
The only radio stutter fix mod that works for me. Won't do madfilter because it involves inserting file into Windows manually. Granted muffling and radio noise effects might be missing but it's a fair trade.
I'm trying to fix the "radio stutter" problem with this mod, but it is the first mod for fallout 3 that i'm installing and I really don't know what I'm doing haha. Where I can find the "older dsound.dll and OpenAL32.dll/dsoal_aldrv.dll files" that I need to delete? And the "Fallout 3 installation directory" that I need to extract the files is the one in the "steamapps" folder?
Should I disable all sound effects and disallow applications to take exclusive control for the headphones too? Or just the speakers? (I mean under 'playback' in control panel)
