Please let me know if you come across any bugs with this mod. As much as I try to get it right it's not always possible especially with quest mods. Thank You hope you Enjoy!
Early 2023 review: nice little quest that integrate new gameplay mechanic of getting milk from brahmin with lore-friendly implementation. Now all these empty milk bottles will have a proper function in the heal/food items category, and you, as a player, can unlock new consumable to heal radiation. Main quest worked without any bugs or broken scripts, storyline is pretty simple but, for this kind of mod and it's final goal, there's no need to make grand multi-staged quest. No conflicts or problems in compatibility were encountered by me, should work perfectly with every major story or location mod quests. It's good to see little stories like this without big events or another "enormous threat" to the Wasteland, and it's more immersive to help regular wastelanders in their mundane life like with old Brown. Should you try this mod in 2023? Of course, 20-25 minutes of new questline with useful perk-reward for people who don't have high rad-resistance already. Endorsement and kudos from me. EDIT 30.05.23: Will conflict with My Brahmin Betsy if you already acquired "Dairy Farmer" perk. You won't have an option to "talk" with Betsy until "Dairy Farmer" activated. Either you need to manually remove new perk (I did it with no problems) or just use My Brahmin Betsy without Farmer Brown's Letter quest, because Betsy also provides option to "milk her" (he-he). So, little warning for potential players.
This is a pretty cool idea and i like how the milk sours, but might i suggest that you can store milk in the nuka cola machine at your megaton house and it'll keep for longer maybe becoming cold milk or whatever like the nuka colas do
I was trying that , but ran into problems with the game distinguishing whether the milk was in the player's inventory or a refrigerator or Nuka Cola machine. I'm not that learned in scripting, I just get by, I'm sure there is a way.
You can use GetContainer on an object to see if it's the player or something else. You see it most often used by weapons and armor to find which NPC or player it applies to, but should work on refrigerators as well. Simple - just check if the container is the player and do the souring calculations, and skip them otherwise. More complete - check the container against the Megaton and TenPenny pristine cola machines and not do the souring calculations, or do them otherwise. The first would allow you to put the milk in your refrigerator and pretend it works, but would allow you to put the milk anywhere. The second would look for specific machines you know work, but requires knowing every machine that you allow the player to place the milk in.
I might have found a problem, but I'm not sure if it's your mod or vanilla. I went to Girdershade after finishing Farmer Browns quest and getting her notebook from the Nuka-Cola factory. I had 39 quantums and figured I could finish off the challenge all at once. I got the challenge, then gave her all my quantums, she thanked me for filling her machine, the quest ended, but I didn't get the reward for the challenge (the Nuka grenade schematic). I haven't looked at her dialogue options or the quest script, so it could very well be vanilla, but I was wondering if maybe you'd heard about this. That and you'd probably know right off if this were something your mod could possibly affect.
It wouldn't surprise me if it were vanilla. They couldn't possibly imagine you'd get the quest and finish it all in one dialogue. The script stages probably count on you exiting the dialogue after getting the quest, and starting another dialogue to end it.
EDIT: It's vanilla - you need to exit the dialogue after getting the quest, then talk to Sierra again to get the proper "I have the last of the quantum." dialogue option. Giving her all the quantum you have where that amount is enough to finish the quest will finish it, but not correctly.
Nice! But instead of simply picking the perk at a certain level, how about a version where you pay the guy in Megaton who always sits next to the Brahmin to teach you how to milk one. That gives you the perk for learning how.
Perhaps even have a few folks around the wasteland that can teach milking, like one of the folk at Arefu. Each time you pay one of these folk to teach you, you get a little better (next level of the perk), meaning more bottles of milk per day. They keep Brahmin at Canterbury, and the Republic of Dave, and Girdershade. Those would be prime candidates for others who can teach milking.
Maybe higher levels could also result in milk lasting longer before going sour.

1) i do the minor quest, since i already know how to work that out
2) add IMCN support.
3) add the requirement of milk bottle. and you can only fill a maximum of 6 milk bottle per bramhin.
