Hi Carinth01 i wonder, after installed this mod can change fallout.ini file to own preferences, won't make the mod stop working yes or not

Hi, you can add additional changes to the fallout.ini as you'd like. You should also add them to the default ini though so they will be transferred over to the fallout.ini if a new ini is create by the launcher.

how i do that let's say wanna to change iTexMipMapSkip in falloutprefs.ini ¿does mean i gotta change fallout_default.ini even that text don't exist?

the default ini is only for generating the fallout.ini. Chages to the falloutpref.ini are separate.
I didn't make any changes to that ini, if you add changes just save it after you make the changes

I'm sorry if it took me a while to respond, I just want to know if I can change fallout.ini and falloutprefs.ini, the mod will still work and I don't have to change anything about Fallout_default.ini or what do I have to do.
      thanks for making this mod

You can make changes to either of the ini. Just if you make a change to the fallout.ini and it's not contained in the default.ini if you run the launcher and make changes, creating a new fallout.ini it will be based off the default_.ini so those settings would be lost in the newly made fallout.ini. The only way around this is to enter it into the default_.ini or make the fallout.ini readonly.

Which exe do I run so steam keeps track of how many hours I played? I like to see how many hours I have in games and it doesn't work for FO3 as I'm running the exe's in this mod through MO2

The game.exe's usually will not collect your gameplay time if you run the game in compatibilty mode.
This occurs with any game.exe used in fo3.
Are you running it with that setting enabled?

You normally set it through the file properties.
Right click the file, check to see if it has compatibility enabled. It shouldn't need to use those settings.

It's not running in compatibility mode, the weird thing is if I open any of the exe's manually steam doesn't know I'm playing the game but if I run it through steam it does. Thanks for the replies btw

Ad the exe as a non steam game to your steam list then launch through that and check it

Using the recommended d3d9.dll makes it so I can't launch the game.  If I use my original, everything seems to work well, except water is basically invisible...

      Hi,
The intel d3d9.dll is only if you are using an intel video card in order for the hardware setup to recognize the video .
You shouldn't need to add it otherwise.
What is the d3d9.dll that you are using alternately? Is it an ENB or something? The one causing your water issue.

I don't recall exactly where it came from, I think I got it as part of fixing the windows live issue. Definitely not ENB. The ENB is what I meant when I said I tried the recommended on (it's the one in requirements in the description).  I didn't use the Intel one. Is there one you can recommend that works?  I have an nvidia card (as well as an AMD apu).

Oh the excessive speed fix, that's only needed if you had excessive speed ingame, happens if you have a really fast refresh, but otherwise it's not required.
      Try this.
Goto your C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder and "COPY" do not cut, the d3d9.dll there.
PASTE it into the game folder and give it a try.

That seems to have done it.  Still clearer than it was which makes it a little hard to see super shallow water, but I think that's just it looking more real than I am used to. Thanks.

Thank you for making the mod and supporting people with their issues!

I'm running into one myself; I can't get the game to launch after I click "Play". I use Steam and have an AMD processor, I've used many methods to try to fix it including the anniversary patch, the unofficial patch, editing the fallout.ini, making sure bUseThreadedAI=1 and iNumHWThreads=2 are changed, updating graphics drivers, running as admin and changing the compatibility settings.

I tried your mod and followed your instructions, I installed a fresh version of Fallout 3 GOTY, went through your steps including the additional step of setting the GPU to the high performance and restarting. I made sure vsync wasn't on and it still doesn't launch after "Play". I even copied "d3d9.dll" to the game folder.

I raised a ticket with Bethesda about it but they haven't got back to me yet. Someone on a separate thread mentioned "I ran 1.7.0.4 through WinDbg and it's dying right after it loads nvapi.dll from a memory access violation", and that downgrading the exe to 1.7.0.3 worked, but I'm not sure how to do that myself outside the anniversary patch. From that thread I thought to run a "sfc /scannow" in command prompt but it didn't find anything to repair.

    Can you advise?

      Hi,

When you set the GPU, did you set it to the AMD?
Sometimes it's not always the high performance setting that is the correct GPU. Make sure that it's the AMD GPU.

The vsync setting isn't really that important for the setup and can be run at your preference.
Vsync on is better for recording normally as it gives a fixed recording speed of 60 fps, whereas off gives a variable speed.
      Same goes for playing.

As well, may I get your operating system and are you using any overlay software?
Something that may run in the background while the game is running and act as a game overlay in some way?

Also have you added the DirectX 9 final release to your operating system?
Here is a link that should help

Oh wait! You're the same person on my steam thread I thought I recognised the name lol

Yes it was set to AMD. I'm using Windows 10 Home. I'm not using any overlay, I turned off steam overlay and I used to have Overwolf but I uninstalled that prior to any methods to fix Fallout 3 cause I saw a suggestion it may interfere. I've restarted my laptop and only launched Steam and Fallout 3 a few times, but I could look at backgrounded processes while it's trying to run.

I installed the DirectX 9 as your video instructed (I gave it a like and subscribed to your channel too to support you!) unfortunately the same result.

I bought the game on GoG to see if it's any different, it has the same problem funnily enough, crashes immediately after "Play". I did a fresh install with it, used this guide (https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/21888?tab=description) I even went as far as to use an older version of gfwlive (https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/1012-microsoft-games-for-windows-live/) to install the correct one but again, it closes immediately on "Play".

UPDATE: So, for some reason, after doing another fresh install on Steam to copy over the exe from a fresh install from GoG, it suddenly works on Steam. I am so angry cause for this new install I've changed nothing and changed nothing, it just started working for no reason. I only have it on "Windows XP (SP3)" under the compatibility settings, but that's been like that for most of the fixes! It's an undeserving victory.

That's me. I'm not on many platforms, but been on steam a long time and helping out when I can, same with YT.
      Thanks for the support.
Well glad that it's finally working. Sometimes it can be headscrather, but luckily it's all working now.
I could guess, but let's just be glad that it's finally all working.

If you need anything else tho, just send me a message. I try to keep up with what I can and help out if I can.
Take care and enjoy the game.

That's mainly for people that have a higher mHz monitor that causes the game speed to run excessively fast or for a newer high end that causes game clock speeds to run to fast, reducing it to standard game speeds for normal playback speed. Otherwise you shouldn't need it.

The excessive speed fix with the listed enb download from this mod?

You have to make sure to use the one that is listed for it to work properly.
It has to be this one ENBSeries """v0.216""" for Fallout 3 / New Vegas
      http://enbdev.com/mod_falloutnv_v0216.html
Using any other version the limiter will not work.

And it has to be combined with the downloaded enb preset, make sure to check the note on the description.
If it's just a random ENB or an alternate version/settings file it will not contain the limiter settings or have them setup.

Not sure if you'll see this but you can limit FPS on both NVIDIA Control Panel and AMD's equivelant by selecting Fallout3.exe / FOSE.exe and limiting FPS to 60

Copy the game exe over to your computer then patch it with the 4gb patch, then copy it back over to the steam deck if you can't get the 4gb patch to run on the steam deck to patch the game exe. It will run fine after.

Hi all, i tried to get Fallout 3 to launch on my Steam Deck, it's the german GOTY Version via Steam which only loads the Fallout 3 launcher and then nothing after you click Play, it just closes. I copied the Files to the right folder (i guess) but i'm not able to run the 4GB Patch. If i want to execute the Patch i have to point it to something, i select the Fallout3.exe and then only get an error message (execvp exec format error). Has anybody else had this problem? Would really appreciate any help, thank you!

Hi Carinth, big thanks for your fast reply and the solution, copy the files, patch and copy back to Deck worked just as you said. Anyway the Game still did not start.
So for everyone who has the German Fallout 3 Goty on Steam and the game won't start and just closes/crashes after you hit "Play" in the launcher.
Somehow there is still a Games for Windows Live dependency on the german verison, so go download the xlive.dll and simply copy it to your Fallout 3 goty Folder, after that the Game will launch properly.
Hope it's okay to state that here, big thank you again, i will now enjoy some Fallout 3 on my Deck.

I know that one is different, but didn't realize it had gfwl still.
I had removed that addition to the files when they eliminated it, but looks like that version never got the same update.
I know that one is censored, but if you would like to play the game properly you can also add this
https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/20689/  -  It the Fallout 3 German version uncut patch
      Thanks for the heads up.

Hey y'all, hoping I could get some advice. I can't get my game of FO3 to run at all. I was told this mod would fix it, but it hasn't changed anything. I have the steam version, I hit play, it brings up the launcher, I try to start the game and it crashes before it can even start. I tried uninstalling and doing the mod again but no changes. Not running any other mods because I can't get the game to work to bother with them yet. I've tried other recommended fixes like compatibility mode and running as an admin but no changes.

Thanks for anyone who could help me out.

So when you set the GPU in your windows setting did it allow you to select the amd to run the game?
Or did it just list an Intel as the GPU?
If it listed an intel, you could try the intel GPU fix
or if it listed the amd but still won't start try the below fix.
The fix below will use your own d3d9.dll from the windows OS and should work as a graphics bypass.

      Goto C:\Windows\SysWOW64
Copy the d3d9.dll and paste a copy in the game folder
(Copy/Paste - Do Not Move the original file)

      Steam: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 3 (goty)
      GOG: C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Fallout 3
      Epic Games: C:\Program Files\Epic Games\fallout3\Fallout 3 GOTY English

Try running the game and check it.
If not get back to me and I can try to help out further.

I got it working! I double checked the graphics preference, and it was set to high, but I saw the power saving option was the AMD so I switched to that. I also copied the d3d9.dll into my game folder. I don't know which did the trick but I appreciate your help so much! This has been driving me absolutely bonkers.

I don't think many players know about the d3d9.dll fix in relation to amd cards/graphics. Very few threads mention that particular fix and those that do mostly deal with Nvidia cards. I have a 7900 xt and the game refused to launch until I used the .dll file from the Intel HD mod. It changed the gpu in the game to a Nvidia GeForce 7000 series one and the game launches now. Didn't know that there was one in the SysWOW64 folder...will check it out.

I used to have this problem in multiple games a few years back on a difference PC. (The keep moving when using drive controls.) I can't remember what I did back then to fix it.  I'm only mentioning this in case you haven't verified that it isn't something that recently popped up and is happening in more than FNV.

Do you have a joystick or controller attached, if so disconnect it.
      See if that works.
      or
I was wondering if maybe my excessive speed fix ENB preset may help.
Try installing that and test it.

I've been looking around but I really can't find anything to suggest other than trying that.
      But I'll keep checking.
      Hey mojodajojo, hope you're well.
