My best guess is it isn't installed properly or you have a conflict. As per the description, this is now included in the unofficial patch and I recommend using that instead unless you prefer not to use it for some reason.
If you are certain it is installed properly and loose files are loading in your game (it has been a while since I played FO3), the only thing I can think of is it could be a driver or codec issue since that seemed to be the cause of the original crash. This is simply a re-encoded file that seems to fix the problem for just about everyone so far. But if you have an unusual sound card or set of codecs installed, it is possible it could still crash. After all, this is kind of like making a copy of a copy. There are guides out there for addressing audio problems in Fallout 3 and I would try those. As I recall, there are a number of known codecs that can cause crashes with this game.
theres no patch about this crash in the unofficial patch, just look up in the zeta patch files and there are some other files, not captive 12 tho, so it still crashes , so advice about installing unoficial patch is pointless here, and your file doesnt fix it too btw
Yes, it is included in the unofficial patch. It is one of five fixes I made that was included in the Updated UFO3 Patch 1.9.3. Here is the link: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/19122/
As previously stated, there are many known causes for audio crashes in FO3. This re-encoded audio file seems to work perfectly for those who have followed the recommendations found elsewhere for avoiding these issues who still had trouble with this particular audio file. Without doing a Google search, here are a few things I know to try that may or may not help audio crashing:
1) Do NOT use Alchemy if you have a Creative Labs sound card. Yes, I know this will piss off Creative users. I myself have the classic X-Fi Titanium HD card (still considered one of the best for audiophiles), but the Alchemy DLL seems to make Fallout 3 very unstable on modern Windows operating systems (8 & 10 especially).
2) Although this probably won't fix crashing issues, with my X-Fi card, I always change the following in the Fallout.ini file (do at your own risk): bEnableEnviroEffectsOnPC=1 iAudioCacheSize=8192 iMaxSizeForCachedSound=1024
3) If using AC3Filter (or one of the K-Lite packs that includes it), set "Default audio renderer" to "Use Wave Out by default" on the System tab. May also disable fallout3.exe in FFDShow audio and video decoders. NOTE: doing this creates a minor bug with the in-game volume controls where voice/effects are tied to the music volume control, which some people may not like.
4) If all else fails, the one thing I've found that makes the audio absolutely stable in this game is to completely remove any 3rd party codecs like those provided by AC3Filter, K-Lite, etc. Then install just the 32-bit MadFilter codec. Then use a program like InstalledCodec to disable "Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec". Can also try disabling LAV Splitter, Lav Audio Decoder, AC3, & XVID codecs. The sound quality seems to be sub-par with occasional crackling (at least with my card), but I have never experienced an audio-related crash in Fallout 3 using this method.
Obviously, this is all assuming you are running Windows. If you do all this and still experience crashes, please let me know.
No. It only addresses the issue mentioned. I've never experienced the crash you are talking about but I'm certain I read about it somewhere. Can't remember what the solution was. I would try UPDATED Unofficial Fallout Patch or Unofficial Fallout Patch if you aren't using one of them already. Someone also uploaded a mod which disables the removal of your items upon abduction; I guess some people had issues with that (probably due to a mod conflict I'm guessing, which makes this kind of a dirty fix). Try a Google search.
