Hi everyone! I just uploaded version 1.2.

Throwing hammers in V.A.T.S. is now much more functional!

The other major change is that hammers are converted into throwing weapons only when you add them to your inventory in sneak mode. This is useful in case you still need hammers as miscelaneous items for other uses (like in other mods).

Thank you all for your downloads and endorsements! I hope you enjoy the mod!

    Cheers!

Interesting mod, but it seems to make all weapons invisible in VATS camera.

(And by launching is launching the weapon, not the game. xD)

I love throwing things, so anything you could add to the mix would be well received.

I may actually have a go at tinkering with your mod to make something work, so thank you.

How difficult would it be to make a few other items throwable? For Example, baseballs, knives, tin cans, toasters, etc.

I know there are a couple mods that make baseballs throwable, but they don't seem to handle the process as elegantly as your mod does. I'm afraid my modding experience isn't so great, but I might be able to figure it out. If you aren't interested in taking such requests, would you be opposed to me using your mod as a template to weaponize some other items? Proper credit would be given, of course. I can't make any guarantees that I would get anywhere with it as my Real life tends to have me travelling a lot, so my game time is pretty shallow. But if there is a chance....Let me know.

I do believe there are mods for baseballs and knives.

Ok, embarrassing moment. I am in stealth mode and get to about 15 feet of a raider. I throw the hammer, it hits the raider in the ankle and the raider says, "What was that?"

Hello, DimLink! It wouldn't be difficult at all making any other item work as a throwing weapon. In fact, I already did the same thing with wrenches (but I didn't publish it). The only inconvenience is that right now I only have one customized throwing animation, which grabs and throws the object as if it has a handle. Therefore, anything relatively long and narrow, or with a handle (a knife, fork, lead pipe, cooking pot, etc.) will look good. A baseball, toaster, book, etc., will look somewhat strange. You could always use the game's standard grenade animation, for, say, a baseball, but the problem there would be that it will still "remove the pin" (including a "click" sound and all).

If you want to use my mod as a base for making your own throwable objects, go ahead: I actually encourage users to further customize any mod I make to suit their personal preferences.

I will be busy for the next few days, but I might make a few more throwable objects (that work with the animation in this mod) like the bonesaw, sometime later if anyone wants them.

      Cheers!

This is so cool! Definitely a "I didn't know I needed this until I had it" kind of mod. Thanks so much!

I'll still be able to craft items that need a hammer if I use this?

Well, none of the craftable items in (unmodded) Fallout 3 require hammers, so what you're talking about is from another mod, right?

Hammers in the game world are a Miscellaneous Item called "Hammer01". In this mod, when you add one to your inventory, it gets replaced by a Weapon called "WeapHammerThrown". To make another mod compatible with this, you'd need to replace the references to "Hammer01" with "WeapHammerThrown" in scripts, Form Lists, etc.

If a mod also makes changes to the "Hammer01" Misc Item (like change its weight, cost, etc.) then there will be a conflict with this mod.

If anyone wants to merge this mod with another one, please, feel free to do so.

I've created a new plugin file ( "ThrowHammers_Alternative_esp" ) that lets you use hammers normally and also lets you throw them, through a new Perk. So now you CAN use this and still craft items with hammers. This should remove all conflicts with other mods.

    Very cool.
I can imagine walking through the pasteland, hear some whoozing sound.. look the the left and feel the cold steel hitting my face at high velocity.
You know, it would be cool if we could throw mines at someone like this.. first you do damage when hitting a person.. and then when they just realized what hit them.. BOOM.

Wouldn't that just be a grenade though?

I made this for fun, but since I liked the result, I decided to publish it. I hope someone else likes it.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Versions before 1.03 had an error in the folder structure of the .rar file which made the mod unplayable by just unpacking it. If you are one of the people who downloaded this before version 1.03, I apologize, but it SHOULD be working now.

Does not work from a crouched stance.

There! Version 1.02 contains the missing 3rd person crouched animation. Thank you for letting me know! And to those who downloaded this before, my apologies. Thank you for your patience.

Sorry to say that, other than being able to equip a hammer, the mod does not work for me.

I think I found the error. It should be fixed in version 1.03. Again, my apologies and thank you for your feedback and patience (I don't usually publish playable plugins).

It's actually quite reasonable to think I'd use hammers like this in a post-apocalyptic scenario. If there's a hammer lying around right in front of me, and I see a crazy mutated creature coming at me I'd throw the hammer at it rather than try to fight it up close.

Having a lore-friendly weapon that can hurt at range and be reusable makes a lot of sense (specially since I'm playing a mod that reduces the availability of ammunition). It immersively fills that role-playing need when I see a two-foot cockroach: "I don't want to waste valuable ammo on it, but I sure as heck don't want to get close to it... If only I had something heavy to throw at it..." (And I don't want to stand there thinking: "I wish I had bought those schematics for that junk-launcher... because without it there's nothing I can do with these hammers!" )

I find throwing hammers fun: they can hurt weak enemies, knock stuff over, attract someone's attention, and on my first play-test, I ran into a raider with a flamer: I threw my hammer at him and knocked the flamer off his hand! Lucky, I know, but it was a cool action scene.

For those of you who are interested, the weapon mesh can also be used for a one-handed melee weapon. With some good scripting someone could even allow you to swich between melee and throwing mode when holding a hammer.

Also, I tested giving wrenches the same throwing function, and it works just as well, (I just haven't made icons for it). I could upload that if anyone requests it.

    Cheers!
