    I just wanted to say that this fix did not initially work for me. but then I also added the lines bUseThreadedAI=1 iNumHWThreads=2 to the fallout.ini in the folder
    C:\Users\Killibum\Documents\My Games\Fallout3
    and then I worked for me
    hope that helps if it didn't work for you

      If you don't mind, I'm gonna sticky this post. Instead of updated a 4 year old file, people will come to the comments and hopefully see this as an extra fix. Thanks for pointing this out friend ^ ^

      Same here... i've probably gone through over a dozen different fixes and gone through 5 clean re-installs of the game. i just want it to friggin work but it just doesn't. the closest i've gotten was from this. i get to a full black screen before it just closes.

    Just gonna post, If you can't even get past the start menu by clicking "Play" don't bother trying, this won't fix it. The game has to at least launch to the main menu in-game.

    Thank you so much. I was crashing every 20 minutes before using this fix. After I installed this mod I actually played a whole session without a single crash and had very little vanilla stutter.

    I was about to give up on trying to play FO3 on Windows10.

    Just as an fyi to the unfamiliar of FO3 engine, it's broken on modern pc, and if your game is crashing like Hellen Keller on a go-cart track it most likely insn't your hardware.

    Steam versions won't even launch 'out the box'.

    Q4/2020, doesnt work. Black screen then crash when trying to start the game.
    THIS 'mod' doesnt work either. Games for Windows Live is not installable anymore due to the servers being shut down

    After I added the Fallout_Default.ini it replaces the Driver to NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS while I have a NVIDIA GeFroce 1050 and I am unable to change it back.

      I have the same problem. The game still won't run and the driver is replaced to NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS. Did you manage to repair that?

    The only problem with all these Windows 10 "fixes" is it doesn't take in account some of us use FOSE to launch the game :(

    For those of you stragglers in 2019 who are still actively trying to give this game a chance, THIS MOD PACKAGE does work for a lot of people. but not everyone :p

    Install the mod files in the readme.txt like normal and see if it works. if you are getting a black screen when pressing play before it crashing, go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJXainW9O48 and skip to 3:00 and follow the instructions.

    reason being is that fallout 3 absolutely hates modern intel graphics drivers and will shut itself down if it even detects it because it is an A-hole. so follow these instructions in the video if this mod doesn't work for you.
