To anyone looking at this today, I suggest you go get the author's Thrift Shop instead - https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/19398

The reason I say this is because even in the "rare" version of the gun oil mod, there's still way too much gun oil around, whereas in the Thrift Shop mod it seems to be just available from that shop, in quite limited amounts and at a well balanced price that feels convenient rather than an easy cheat. It works a bit like alien epoxy (or weapon repair kits in Vegas) except to use it you click R like you would to repair any weapon in your inventory and it comes up in the list of things you can repair that weapon with, as if each gun oil item was itself another weapon, to be used up during the repair. And the repair is set to your skill level. The rest of the shop is great too, selling weapons, ammo and various other items, in cool locale and structure.

I didn"t see a version of this for New Vegas. Will this file work with it?

Vegas doesn't need it because it has weapon repair kits. Fallout 3 doesn't have such kits (except for a limited amount of alien epoxy in the Zeta dlc). Hence the need for something like this. Interestingly, repair kits exist as cut-content for Fallout 3.

This works like a charm, even alongside a mod I have that repairs weapons at an owned workbench for caps. At the workbench, there's no option to use oil, in my case, but when hitting the 'R' in the pipboy weapons menu that weapon can be repaired wherever you are, as long as you have some oil in your inventory. One oil often isn't enough to repair a weapon fully but when having enough oil you can. It's a bit like repair hammers in Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.

You don't need to select it in the inventory but in the repair menu...

To use this item: Open the repair option for the item you want to repair and the gun oil should be right there. Select it and your item is repaired partially. You don't have to do anything else with it.

I am using the rare version of this mod and currently at level 7 with my current game, I've found 52 of these so far. But really, I don't care. This is an item that I only keep if I have extra room for it, and I only plan on using for repairing unique items later in the game. This mod is an excellent idea and resource for the game.

For those saying it is not Lore friendly, how many of the food items do you think you could safely eat after 200 years? Who is producing all of the weapons in the game? Simple repairs is not going to keep that amount of weapons, armor, etc. in usable condition after that much time. Maybe there is a factory producing weapons somewhere, and the same factory could be producing gun oil so people can keep their purchases nice and functional. I'm not hardcore into the Lore aspect as many people, but it's easy to fit something like this into the game. If you don't like the mod, don't use it.

I endorse this mod. Thanks. But I have a comment.
The idea of such a amazing mod, but in fact it turns out that a lot of gun oil.
I installed a second version of mod where oil should be very rare.
Started the game scored Level 3 and went to the Super-Duper Mart and I had 20 pieces of gun oil! That's a lot! c060.gif
Can somebody make a version where gun oil is to be really rare. Please.

You could use the G.E.C.K and manually edit each of PL's weapon's repair list. this may take a while though.

II feel that this is too easily found. I am using the rare version and I am able to find so much of it, that all my guns are fully repaired at all times with tons of oil to spare. I get so much of it that I waste it to save weight in my inventory.
I loot buildings and check all the containers when possible and I walk out with ~10 Oil per mid sized building and even more on larger areas. Not to mention how much I get from killing the raiders inside the building I am looting.

Maybe cut down the rate of finding it down to 10% of what the rare one currently is. If that was changed, I think I could start to appreciate finding it rather than something that I can take for granted.

Other than that, I must give you credit on this mod. It gives me a much more attractive option for repairing expensive guns than paying or sacrificing a duplicate of it for repairs.

my god it is oil...why should it be that rare ?! i made a mod that allowed people to trade with every one and mostly the npcs had not much to trade..cuz they are not rich, and people claimed there is to less to trade, here it is to much

try to enjoy the mechanic of this mod and not the amount of placments thank you

Oil used to clean firearms can break down over time. Granted it takes years, sometimes even decades, but remember it's been 200 years since the bombs fell. And that's 200 years of people using a supply of gun oil that's not being replenished. Any that did manage to survive this long would likely already be used. I'll continue using the mod as it is simply because I like the concept too much to give up on it, but I still say it's too plentiful. There comes a point where you have so much of it that you ask yourself why bother picking it up. It's your mod though so if you disagree I'm sure we'll make do with what we have

Same, I'm using the "rare" version but Gun Oil still appears everywhere, ruining the survival aspect of the game. What about a "vendor" version so that the only way to acquire it is through vendors?

anyway in your file is no texture and mesh, so your file dosent work "standalone" you have to put them in and dont forget to put credit in the file too

@Carnatics: actually in that post you deleted I had specified that it was just an .esp replacer and that it required the original mod. No copyright infringement intended. Anyway nobody PM'ed me about it and next time I'll keep my patches to myself for my own use.

the credit thing was a bit harsh from me he ?!

so to be clear ,the only reason why i dont like external links is viruses, i do not say your file was a virus...but you know its risky anyway
if you want to do a patch or something else a addon or a complete overhaul, iam perfectly fine with that but please please please keep it here on the nexus okay ?
