    I downloaded the vanilla texture replacer and toggled AI after installing, but the textures are still steel and wood. It was a manual install, and I know they go in Data>Textures>Weapons>2handautomatic

    So, what went wrong?

    EDIT: When I tested it, I simply spawned in a rifle to equip it. The player model textures are still wood and steel, but the world models are the new texture.

    So, how do I apply the texture to the player model?

      Sorry for the late reply, I hadn't spotted your comment.

      Make sure all four textures:

      1stpersong3assaultrifle.dds
      1stpersong3assaultrifle_n.dds
      G3AssaultRifle.dds
      G3AssaultRifle_n.dds

      End up in:

      Data\Textures\Weapons\2handautomatic

      The vanilla Assault rifle has two model versions, one is the world model & uses low res textures to save resources. The other is a 1st world model for use when you equip it & uses higher res textures.

      My replacer comes with both sets of textures (though they are both the higher quality version) so that the vanilla Assault rifle will have the new textures in both modes.

      If you are not seeing the 1st world (equipped) synthetic furniture textures & you definitely have the 1stpersong3assaultrifle.dds & 1stpersong3assaultrifle_n.dds textures placed in the correct folder mentioned above, then you may have plugin that's changing the 1st world textures to a different path.

      Do you have any mod that changes the Assault rifles 1st person model or textures?
      Something like a higher res replacer or a weapons mod?

      If so either use FO3Edit to change that mod's Assault Rifle settings back to vanilla (make a backup of the other mods plugin BEFORE making any changes for quick restoration).

      If it's a mod that only changes the vanilla Assault rifle & you want these textures instead then simply uninstall the other mod.

      The "Vanilla Assault Rifle Texture Replacer" is just textures & replaces the vanilla Assault rifle's texture with the Retaliator's.

      It does not add the footlocker with the R91 Retaliator.

      For the footlocker with the R91 Retaliator you must use the main "R91 Retaliator Assault Rifle" download which has an .esp.

      Don't forget to take care of archive invalidation, the version built into mod managers often needs to be turned off & then back on again AFTER adding a new mod.

      Not taking care of archive invalidation could prevent the new texture from showing up.

    Mislabeled guns drive me nuts. I know they make BS names to avoid having to pay to use the name, but this is a prime example. The G3A3 is labeled the R91. Sorry about the unrelated rant but sometimes ya just gotta vent, ya know? APB Reloaded is VERY notorious for this. The starter AR is the G36c in reality and is labeled the STAR 5.56, The starter pistol is the Colt Python. One of the SMGs is an AKS-74U with plastic grips and a skeleton stock.

      Yes the R91 is clearly based off the H&K G3 the very early ones, before they replaced the wooden hand grips with synthetic ones, in particular as those distinctive holes in the wood hand grip match almost identically. Same with the stock.

      The game mesh is even called "g3assaultrifle.nif".

      Though G3's fire 7.62 NATO rounds & the R91 fires 5.56 rounds.

      It's fairly easy to justify the name here, don't forget that Fallout 3 is a divergent reality from our own.

      Just imagine in the Fallout 3 world that the US Armed forces adopted a member of the G3 family as a military weapon.

      The military required it used the standard 5.56 rather than 7.62 at which point it was given a new designation, as is common, the R91.

      Sort of like the US issue M9 handgun is a Beretta 92F with military specifications or the AR-15 became the M16 once adopted.

      Or perhaps the R91 was an import version of the G3 for the US market in the Fallout universe.

      There's even semi-auto versions of the G3 called the HK91, possibly where Bethesda got the 91.

      i think the name is a nod to the PTR-91 a G3 built in the states.

      Yes, quite possibly the source of the name. Good call.

      Though the look is definitely early G3 with the wooden furniture, I don't think PTR-91's ever came with anything other than synthetic furniture from the factory.

    Hello again - I've just tried to download the re-texture as well and found that it's not working at all, and keeps telling me "file does not exist". I have tried downloading with manager and manually. I'm not sure whether this is due to Nexus itself or not but I thought I should let you know anyway.
    I'll try and retexture the vanilla assault rifles by following the instructions that you posted to AirsoftFox.

      It seems to be working fine now when I checked.

      I have noticed that files take a while to work across all the mirrors when they are first posted & I'd just put the vanilla replacer on today.

      Either that or it was a Nexus glitch.

      When I read Airsoftfox's mod request I thought it sounded like a good idea & it only took a few minor tweaks to the texture's stock to allow it to work.

      I held back on major retexturing to fit Airsoftfox's request plus it keeps it totally lore friendly.

      Try using the "download manually" button insted.

      When you have the archive downloaded, right click on it & "Open With" - Mod manger (FOMM/NMM).

      The mod will now open in your mod manager's Package Manager, left click on it & select "Activate" to complete the install.

      You would not install the mod but instead unpack the textures & duplicate two of them so you have 4.

      Rename those 4 files to:

      1stpersong3assaultrifle
      1stpersong3assaultrifle_n
      G3AssaultRifle
      G3AssaultRifle_n

      & place those files in your:

      Fallout 3\Data\Textures\Weapons\2handautomatic

      I've uploaded a Vanilla texture replacer that does just that in the file section for you.

      Note that if you use the Texture Replacer in a mod you still need to list The Pitt as a requierment since it's a modified version of the Infiltrator's texture.

    Really nice simple mod. I'm going to have to edit the gun in the G.E.C.K, because I'm using FWE and the damage is a bit low. I like the idea of this mod, and the gun itself looks nice and lore friendly.
    Would there be any possibility or making it compatible with Weapon Mod Kits? If so I'd probably use it as the main weapon for my character!

      Credit for the idea goes to Airsoftfox who requested it, I was surprised there wasn't a straight forward retexture like this already.

      I couldn't find one though there could be one out there.

      Yes, FWE does have much higher damage for weapons. I left this as vanilla, other than reducing weight & increasing durability to take into account the synthetic furniture & different finish.

      I wanted it to match Bethesda's Infiltrator so I resisted the temptation to add things to it.

      Just had to do some texture tweaking around the stock.

      I even gave it a name, Retaliator, to fit in with Infiltrator & Perforator.

      I've never got around to using Mod Kits so I'm not to familliar with how it works in detail.

      This being the exact model & UV as the vanilla Assault rifle, just pointing to a different texture It certainly wouldn't be impossible to do.

      Yeah, because the vanilla assault rifle already has full support for WMK, and this is almost a retexture, it should be really easy to add WMK support for it. Unfortunately I have no idea how to do that, but if anyone reads this and is able to do it, it would be a great expansion for this mod.

      PS - I also tried to upload a picture showing the first person view of the Retaliator, not sure if you've approved it yet or if I uploaded it correctly.

      Yes, I took a peak at WMK & the master model they use for the assault rifle with all the attachments & it can be retextured with the Retaliator's custom texture.

      Would probably look cool with a scope from WMK.

      I'd certainly have no problems with someone making such a patch.

      Not sure on what permissions would be needed from the WMK end though.

      You uploaded it correctly, I did not know it was there. It's the first user image I've had on a mod so I wasn't used to checking that.

      I've approved it & it's on display now, also added a few views myself.
