Version 4 of Simple Realism has been released! I have tweaked and adjusted everything that I thought needed fixing in the game and my work is now finished. This mod has been a labor of love with all of the fun and anxiety that that entails. No more updates are planned, this is the final version. Everything has been playtested extensively and ready to be used with a new playthrough. I will not be making any compatibility patches.

Thank you to everyone that has shared their kind words, support, and critique throughout the life of Simple Realism! I appreciate each and every one you :)

for anyone who wants to use the Iron Sights Plus mod, it's easy enough, load it and this mod into FO3edit and look through each weapon article, the rows highlighted in yellow or red that have relevant numerical values like damage, crit, min spread, and spread, drag those values from the Simple Realism column into the Iron Sights Plus column. don't change the columns with values like 1st Person

    Hey everyone,

I expanded the healing over time to water/drinks and all food items I could find.

    Here is a link.
This also includes the Scotch bottle fix (discussed further down in the comments).

Making the Daddy's Girl/Daddy's Boy perk work with those tweaks required a bit of fiddling, so please let me know if I messed something up with the conditions (perk yes/no and food sanitizer yes/no etc.). Also let me know about any other issues you run into.

If phoenix0113 wants to take a look at my changes and deems them appropriately in line with their mod I am totally okay if this gets merged into the original mod or provided as an optional download. :)

This is by far the best mod I've ever tried, it just adds so much to a realistic gameplay, I love it - THANKS :)

Anyone - what FO4 mod is closest to this gem ?

Hi would you say is this mod "harder" than wanderer edition or viscious wastes ?

If anyone is getting a missing mesh for the scotch bottle when using this mod.

    1. Download FO3edit v4 and unzip and run FO3EditQuickAutoClean.exe.
    2. When prompted to choose a module, select simple realism and click ok and wait for it to load.
    3. Expand the ingestible section and select scotch.
    4. Double click "UF3P\whiskeybottle02full.nif" on the MODL - Model Filename line.
    5. Copy the text in the "unofficial fallout 3 patch.esm" tab in to the "Simple Realism.esp" tab and click save.
e.g. copy "Clutter\LiquorBottles\WhiskeyBottle03.NIF" over the top of "UF3P\whiskeybottle02full.nif"
    6. click the hamburger button on the FO3edit window and choose save, click ok on the new window.
    7. Close FO3edit and test the game.

To the author, thank you for a great mod.

Thanks for the help man. You've saved me a ton of time and stress by posting this. I did what you suggested here on the Simple Realism.esp as well as for the HardcoreNeeds-SimpleRealism Patch.esp and it got rid of that annoying exclamation mark and restored the correct texture/model that was missing. Thanks again! Legend!

      Edit: 23/01/2021

I noticed that the Toughness perk wasn't active even though it says in the mod description's change log that it is meant to be available. So it's also necessary to go into FO3Edit and look for the section that says: "playable" and switching it from "No" to "Yes" in order to get it to show up in "Perks" once you level up. Also bear in mind that any other perks you may want to use that were previously locked out through this mod can be reactivated this way too if you want to use the mod and still have access to those perks.

Thank you fman1.  I couldn't figure out why this wasn't working until I saw I needed to fix the patch for HardcoreNeeds, too.  Thanks!

I really wanted to endorse this. In theory there's so much I love included here; it adds the subtle, but to my mind, necessary challenges that the game's own harder difficulty settings fail to include. I only ever use mods that add bug fixes or improve the quality of life. The mod "Less Special" takes pride of place on my list; I only start with 35 S.P.E.C.I.A.L. points to work with. I do this because almost all NPC's have a total number of S.P.E.C.I.A.L. points between 34-36. It's simply not realistic to have a starting S.P.E.C.I.A.L. of 40 at a year old and barely walking! And with this build style, so many of the perks are now all too often unobtainable: Strong Back (Strength 8), Finesse (Luck 7) Better Criticls (Luck 9), Grim Reaper's Sprint (Agility 9) & Comprehension (Intelligence 8) are just a few... Don't even get me started on the fact that I need 60 in Melee Weapons skill to get the Pyromaniac perk! (I'm planning on using flamers, incinerators and with a little divine intervention, the Firelance, NOT the Shishkebab!).

I'm also finding that it doesn't favour builds that don't include sneak, ranged or energy weapons. Yes, this mod increases the damage output of the .32 and Chinese pistols, but getting hit anywhere on your person once or twice can leave you seriously injured. Given that sleep no longer restores health and limbs, it's only a matter of time before I have too few caps to afford to heal myself? With a base barter skill of just 9, I'd essentially have to loot everything in the Super-Duper Mart and half of Megaton just to buy a single stimpak! Were I adopting a sneaky sniper build perhaps this wouldn't be so much of an issue, but I'm doing a big guns/explosives build. I'll never have enough food, water, caps or stimpaks to make this play style even remotely viable!

There's so much in this mod that I wholeheartedly agree with, but on 'Normal' difficulty (whilst I was doing just fine on Very Hard in vanilla), the challenges are making the game unplayable.

My only problem with this mod is the damage of 10mm SMG. It's way too high compared to 10mm pistol (while it should be similar) and is on the same level as an assault rifle. Makes no sense at all.

The stimpak cost is freaking ridiculous, it takes 100 caps for a doctor to heal you up completely, but one stimpak cost you triple the caps like seriously?

Doctor isn't always available to you sitting in your pocket. 3x price difference seems reasonable.
