The more I use this mod the more I like it. My only minor criticism is the guard at the citadel gate is a ghoul which is highly unlikely seeing as the BoS would shoot her on sight (I gave her a BoS power helmet to wear). I like how she guards that gate because the vanilla game removes the vanilla ones after taking the purifier back. Some others have odd gear choices but they'll wear/use what you give them so that's hardly an issue. It would've been nice to have options to set any to essential rather than just the extra mercs you can hire, but if you have FOSE installed you can click on them in console mode and type the GBO command to find their base id, then type: setessential [base id] 1. (and, of course, 0 instead of 1 to put them back to non-essential if one changes one's mind).

In Girdershade they've nowhere to sit. I used console commands to add a trailer & two chairs, and they use them. Outside Rivet I did add a chair where there's only one vanilla chair & table - they take it in turns to come up there for a rest. But after water caravans begin they also sometimes sit by the fire and use the chairs there too.

In Canterbury they provide much needed protection! For the girl (Byrd, iirc) who hangs out at the east end of town and is also a trader I gave her a trader outfit, and consoled a table & chair, lantern and metal boxes. I also set her essential as she's a bit on her own there. It'd be nice if (at least when there's more than one guard) they'd sandbox sleeping - I added a mattress but they don't seem to use them.

Anyway, many thanks. Endorsed - very endorsed.

Btw, if the author or anyone else adds more locations please let me know. Grayditch is one I can think of, maybe centered at the Diner - a heavy guard and a lighter vendor type one and/or medic - though it might be best to wait until after THOSE! of course. Maybe guards at Point Lookout outside the motel there...

April 2023 update: Just a note for others that I belatedly spotted a patch at the wasteland patch collection that reportedly makes them all essential. Not tried it myself of course as I already did it via console commands I mentioned above.

Had to re-upload the BOE Patch as it was blocking Zero's barter menu.

The 2.0 update has been released.
I tried to address as many issues as possible though there is still not voice acting as that is currently outside of my skill set.
    The update features:
-Doubled health of all DCD and Civilian Guards.
-Added new options to "set essential" and to "buy advanced gear" for DCD Guards at a price.
-Added DCD Hire Terminal to Moriaty's Saloon in Megaton.
-Zero is now a Vendor and Repairer.
-Fixed bug where Stimpaks do nothing for certain DCD Guards.
-Fixed mistake where the wrong info displayed for Lincoln Memorial Guards on the Hire Terminal.

Also WASTELAND GUARDS BOE PATCH has been released.
    [REQUIRES "BOOK OF EARACHE"]
-Distributes BOE Weapons amongst the DCD and Civilian Guards.
-Better weapons available through the "buy advanced gear" options.
-Adds some CalibrX ammo to some vendor lists.

Like the mod so far, but why are the characters mute?
    Not even a voiced greeting?

Agree, a little voice acting would be nice.

Hey guys! I really enjoy this mod however, as others have mentioned, the NPCs added by it can easily die ESPECIALLY when using mods such as FWE and MMM. So I've made a quick little patch over on my The Wasteland Patch Collection mod page, under the Optionals section, which solves this issue by making the NPCs essential! I hope this helps others! Thanks for an amazing mod, djmystro!!

What are the values of the hire-able npcs so I can set them to essential?

I would like to set the Fentons as essential so that instead of permadeath they just get knocked out.

@BeBeButerbub It's pretty easy to make this compatible with SCC. Open both this and SCC up in the GECK, open the dialogue editing menu thingy for the guard NPCS, click on "GREETING," then in the box that lists the choices, right click and add aaafriend1 to the choices.

omg I was looking for a mod like this! I have Wastlanders Econoy (AWE) and other "re-enforcement" mods like that to help protect the quest locations from a Zombie Apocalypse but finally I found a mod that made with this goal in mind! Going to test it and coming back to endorse!
