  • Obscurum is back, and with a video?!

That's right. I am going to publish a video later today where I talk a bit about what the development of Obscurum is going to encompass, along with some other things along that topic. I will post an announcement of when it is uploaded. I hope you will enjoy this rare bit of behind the scenes content....

  • This mod is no longer dead.

RJ was right in declaring us dead, but I am bipolar so one day's futility is another day's motivation. Right now I have no computer, so you won't see any updates for a while. But when the time comes... yeah.

I made an ideas list, feel free to interpret it as you like. It was written for myself so it might only make partial sense:

    - ghoul spawns in urban areas
    - paranormals in wasteland
    - more scrap metal
    - cannibals in grayditch?
    - "neutral" ghosts
    - insanity system
    - hunger system
    - purified water cures plague
    - exterior cells reset daily?
    - infected spawn outside of megaton?
    - more artifacts
    - "renewal" artifact
    - deadlier waters
    - poltergeist ashpiles that ...

  • We are on an 'indefinite hiatus'.

Alright, kids. Here's an official announcement from the Obscurum Team:

We burned ourselves out on Obscurum and Pandemic (our unfinished alpha for New Vegas) and currently progress has stalled.

Does this mean that we are done creating this kind of madness?

    HA! Heck no!

As I've said multiple times. our lives are in the way and we don't have the mental courage anymore to continue on modding for these quite dated games.
With nobody interested in joining the creative department, it's all been resting on Thumble's shoulders. He lasted much longer than I had anticipated and I'm proud of him. In a non condescending way.

We have plans and continue to make plans for Fallout 4. It's rumor...

  • New Vegas on Steam Sale!

New Vegas and all of it's DLC are 75% off on the Steam Sale!
In other news, Pandemic (that's the working title for our New Vegas Mod) has already seen a prototype and will be released soon! (I hope)
    It WILL require:
    Dead Money
    Honest Hearts
    Old World Blues
    Lonesome Road
    and Gun Runners' Arsenal

So if you want to be able to play Pandemic (and I promise you, it's even more insane than this mod) be sure to meet the requirements.
    http://store.steampowered.com/app/22380
All of the DLC (including the courier's stash) are something around 5 euros and some spare change, so count that over to your regional equivalent and just buy the stuff.
Old World Blues is pretty brilliant by the way.

  • Plans, we have!

Right, I forgot there's such a thing as Articles for mods. Silly me.

The stickied post in the comments already gives you a wealth of information, but I feel I should elaborate on everything seperately. But since I hate making my posts too long (hah, they're still long, I just don't want to feel bad), I feel making an Article might be fitting!

    - Blog:
The blog started as an attempt for a casual announcement service, and it turned into a secondary announcement source.
You can RSS subscribe to blogs if you want to be informed through there, but there's always the Nexus and it's own system.
Having a blog is just neat and very 2010-style. We're hip, yo.

This is going to start out as o...

  • The plaguewalkers are coming!

Now, due to how the paranormals are more or less invincible, and the cannibals are bullet-soaking juggernauts, I've added a slightly.

    (NOTE: Slightly.)

Weaker encounter that should make the progression curve a little bit smoother.

They're about half as strong as the cannibals.

Which, as we all know, is still very strong.

So, the player can face them off after a few levels or so.

I'll post a screenshot of them later. ...

  • Bleedout script? Bleedout script.

So, I've made this script so that, when the player is under 30% health, he/she will now leave a trail of blood behind him or her.

    That is all....

  • What should happen to Three Dog?

Howdy, all you cats of the wasteland!

It is me, your benevolent ruler, Three Dog.

I am here to tell you kids what the latest scoop is, see, it would seem as though that guy from Vault 101 has-

    GRAAAAARGH! OH GOD!

WHAT IS THAT?! IS THAT A DRILL?!

    PUT DOWN THE DRI-AAAAAAARRRRRGHGH!

    *Ahem*

    Greetings peoples of Wasteland.

    It is I, Tumblesteen.

Three Dog has a cold, and as such, have decided to retire permanently.

So, we need a new radio host. Question is, who should this radio host be?

Due to the fact that I am a good voice actor myself, I figured I'd replace Three Dog and even his music.

    Because, Obscurum is in ...

  • Future Plans - Chapter 02

I've started working on the Alternate Start.

My was it difficult. A herculean task to say the least.

But after re-writing a bunch of scripts, tampering with a whole lot of quests, and even recording a new intro video.

(I've just implemented it, works perfectly.)

We have a whole new start system.

Looking at quests and how they're structured, I feel as though I may be able to create a hunger/thirst/sleep system next.

It would be nice if I made my own since I'd like to edit/create new foodstuffs that function differently....

  • Future plans - Chapter 01

This is a small developer's log containing changes for the coming update.

First of all, nothing will respawn now.

    Well, almost nothing, anyway.

    Why?

Because that gives the game two elements. First one is the fortification. As the player can now clean out a place of enemies and make a home there.

Second one is because it makes the resources in an area limited, as the player must constantly journey to new places in order to find food and supplies.

Also, I've removed ALL cell ownership.

So, with this abolition of private property, I am glad to announce that the wasteland is hereby a communist state.

Small joke for all you college graduates.

    And, for all you capitalist...

  • What Obsucurm is to me. (A small modder's biography, if you will.)

So, perhaps you're curious about just what drives me, what motivates me, and what even gave me the idea of making this mod.

I'd like to think that given the stature of how Fallout 3 is no longer at the height of it's popularity, and how it's fanbase have probably mostly moved on to newer games, that Obscurum have been quite successful in spite of these things.

So, I thought I'd share with you all just what drives me to making it.

And, I've come to realise that it's several factors.

First one I think is how it's given me a chance to connect with my inner child. With the dark side of childhood. That bitter imagination that drives you to think of all those strange and scary phobias.

    I remember whe...

  • What is Obscurum, really?

Sometimes, a sales pitch just doesn't have room for a personal explenation for, what I feel, is one of the most unique mods I have ever experienced and been honored to contribute to.

I can safely say, not knowing Thumblesteen for very long, that he has outdone himself with Obscurum. Simply because I have never, ever seen this done before to any of Bethesda's games.
In my years as a mod user, I have used mods ranging from many a genre. But never a mod that actually changed the core of the game.
I deeply believe that, when Bethesda chose to make their games moddable, that this was one of the pearls they had imagined would emerge. A mod that would immortalize the game.

    So what is Obscurum, really?

There is no one simple way to explain...
