    will this do anything to fix the lady in megaton with a black woman face and a white person body? people always say try this or do that but none of their suggestions actually work, why can't someone make a .esp or a patch or SOMETHING to deal with this for once and for all, come on people it's frigging 2021 and this stupid thing is still happening! a heavily active modding community and NONE of you have come up with a solution? i am tired of changing ini files and downloading archiveinvalitdatethis or that. what we need is a black belt programmer/modder to deal with this issue once and for all so it can never come back for all eternity!!!!!!!

      The only solution I know of is to change the mod that introduced that NPC to esm format (in fact it is enough to just flag the file as an esm in FO3edit)

    Textures\landscape\Lod\wasteland\diffuse\Wasteland.n.Level8.X8.Y16.dds
    ... DXT1 384x384 => DXT1 512x512 (72 Kb => 128 Kb) => Fixed Bad Size

    Any idea on why this is happening? Kept doing this to a bunch of these files and free space started dropping and ended up at -44,023,579...dont understand what was wrong with the previous file size.

      384x384 is not a standard format for DirectX textures; typically they're in x2 values of 64 (128x128, 512x512, 1024x1024, etc.)
      This outdated version (coded in C++) might only have fixed numbers for filesize, OR it might have added mipmaps to the texture.

    Will using this potentially break any other mods?

      IT shouldn't "break" anything as all it does is compress the textures and stuff, I have used it on obscurum, zombie apocalypse, about 30 clothing mods, varios reskins and other things and its not broken anything, + it makes a backup of the pre compression textures. If your really worried, you can always make a manual backup of your data folder.

      Personally I set it to compress textures even more than the maximum settings, and ran it twice, lol. The difference in my frames has been amazing. If I could endorse it twice I would.

      Yes, "Better High Detail map and Icons". You must install it after optimizing.

    I highly recommend this mod, I have only used it on "medium profile" settings which improves performance without hurting quality at all.

    I found one imcompatibility, with the mod "Better High Detail map and Icons".
    You can simply run this before installing it, or just reinstall the mod again after running the optimizer.
    Screws up pipboy 3000 textures specific to the mod.

    Have you ever used DDSopt? It is recommended by the STEP Project, but it's really a pain to set up if for anyone fairly new at modding. I look at the instructions for it and my eyes glaze over.
    This tool sounds like it'd be better for those who want to optimize but are a bit less knowledgeable or skilled with more robust tools; tho I am concerned that it'll screw something up, even when following a guide, because I'm just not familiar enough with what it's doing.
    I do wish this tool allowed selective optimizing, so that you could choose which mods you want to compress the textures of, thus leaving any others untouched - naturally.

    Has anyone tried using this while using Mod Organizer?

    I don't understand how to use the mod. Could someone please help me? I'd like to simply improve my performance without lowering the texture quality.
