    This also works brilliantly for New Vegas. Don't get me wrong, NV will play with an Intel iGPU -- but. Using this makes the framerate way better. This is particularly true if you're playing on a Linux distribution (I'm playing on Fedora 42 KDE Edition, and without this, the game was barely playable.)

    Fixed my game somehow. As others have mentioned, THIS WORKS FOR OTHER GRAPHICS CARDS TOO!

    If you are trying to play fallout through the GOTY edition through GOG this will make the game crash on launch. You need to Launch the game from the program files(86x) folder Fallout.exe . This bypasses the the box with play options etc and launches the game directly.

      Whether you have the Steam version or the GOG version neither one should ever be installed in the program files folder. Windows, through User account control does not allow programs to write to the these folders at runtime and will reverse any changes made. This is why all programs write to the hidden user data folder instead. Install to the root C: to avoid problems with modding.

    personally i think the name for this should change. i use an AMD cpu and this program worked for me. this works for AMD as well as Intel. at first i wasn't downloading it because i had an AMD cpu so i figured it wouldn't fix anything. figured, what the heck, i should try it and see if it fixes my problem, and it worked.

    If anyone is wondering, you don't need the d3d9 file if you have an amd graphics card and the changes you only really need in fallout.ini are:

    bUseThreadedAI=1

    iNumHWThreads=2

    (My assumption is that AMD fixed the crashing in New Vegas and Oblivion but not Fallout 3 with its latest drivers)

      Dude, this saved my game, thanks! All I had to do was just add iNumHWThreads=2 as a new line below the existing bUseThreadedAI=1 line in the default config file for New Vegas and it stopped the crashes!
