Included is a lightweight, easy to install and WORKING (!) solution for Fallout 3's radio stutter issues. Historically tested on Windows 7 up to Windows 11.
This fix was introduced by user GoldenShadow on the Steam forums and uploaded to Nexus by Pow_R_Toc_H (who deleted the file for unknown reasons). Additional credits to Nexus user banzaaiii for updated installation instructions.
Installation:
1. Download the latest mod zip file from the Files tab
2. Extract the zip file, then extract MADFilter_1.0.0.3.zip
3. Copy MADFilter.ax to the following folder:
For Windows x64 operating systems -
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\
For Windows x32 operating systems -
C:\Windows\System32\
4. Open Command Prompt as admin (Start -> search for "cmd" -> right click Command Prompt and run as administrator)
5. Input the following command:
For Windows x64 operating systems -
regsvr32 C:\Windows\SysWOW64\MADFilter.ax
For Windows x32 operating systems -
regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\MADFilter.ax
You should receive a confirmation message -
DllRegisterServer in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\MadFilter.ax succeeded.
6. Launch Fallout and enjoy stutter-free music!
Uninstallation:
1. Open Command Prompt as admin (Start -> search for "cmd" -> right click Command Prompt and run as administrator)
2. Input the following command:
For Windows x64 operating systems -
regsvr32 /u C:\Windows\SysWOW64\MADFilter.ax
For Windows x32 operating systems -
regsvr32 /u C:\Windows\System32\MADFilter.ax
You should receive a confirmation message -
DllUnregisterServer in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\MadFilter.ax succeeded.
Additional notes:
- If the fix doesn't work right away, try extracting installedcodec.zip which is included with the mod. Launch InstalledCodec, disable Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer 3. Make sure MAD Filter is on the list.
- K-Lite Codec Pack users may need to uninstall the pack and install the Basic version. Then, configure both FFDShow Audio and Video to EXCLUDE Fallout3.exe
