A standalone version would be possible, but so boring due to the limited number of vanilla weapons and armor. Combined with the fact that I'd then have to create all that stuff again, with the fact I don't actually use this myself, and it's not looking good.
On the plus side, anyone who wants to convert it to standalone is welcome to try. I'll help with scripts and such that might need to be changed, but other than that I'm not doing it. Sorry.
Basically, you're not willing to let us enjoy your work unless we force ourselves to take part in a modpack that we aren't interested in? What was the point in even making it in the first place then?
The answer to SirCranburry's "What was the point in even making it in the first place then?" Seems pretty obvious. It's a reboot of the FWE alt start system. Made for everyone who uses FWE but would like to try something new in the alternative start.
Seriously ignore both of them. The mod is literally called Alt Start - FWE Redux. The very idea that someone saw that, clicked through, read the description then was so delusional to actually complain that it's only for FWE? Much less 2 people? Snort.
I'm just downloading it now so can't rate yet but either way just wanted to say I know the amount of effort this kind of thing this takes and kudos to you for all your hard wok.
This might be a little late although it looks like I"m not the only one still playing this game. SirCranburry, people like you are a big contributor to why so many mod authors don't release their work, or decide to pull their mods.If you're really so self entitled that you believe a mod author must spend countless hours making a whole new mod for free to meet your expectations, maybe you need to learn how to do it yourself. Then you can have exactly what you're looking for, and in addition you'll have a much clearer understanding of exactly what goes into making a mod of this scope.
If you don't want to use an add-on for another mod, then don't use it. Go look for an alternate start mod that doesn't require FWE or make one yourself. And learn some manners.
I really wish that whole main quest could disappear.. like, someone would overhaul it so that you just stumble upon the two factions (Enclave and the research team/BoS) and actually got to choose who to support, more like in New Vegas.
Then your using a mod and putting that mod below this one in the load list that makes you start in Vault 101. An example f this would be the "Ties that Bind" mod, which will start you in V101 regardless of having another mod that would start you in an alternative location.
I just want an alternate start, fast and clean, with out the vanilla nightmare start. I don't want a game overhauled or changed. You know, K.I.S. KEEP it SIMPLE.
Love this so far! the only discrepancy I can think of while using this is "what if I want to have the randomly generated equipment for a character but I also want to spawn at the FWE default spawn?" (for say, a raider or outcast character) other than that this mod is genious
I'd also like to request a stand-alone version. It would be great to take advantage of this FWE's feature without the obligation to install the whole thing. Gribbleshnibit8, if you ever had time, I reckon we would all be much obliged for creating it. Thanks a lot.

If you start a game NOT as a Vault Dweller, do you still have the "Following in his footsteps" quest added at start?
Because if you're not starting as the Vault Dweller, why in the world would you be looking for "your dad who's from a vault?"
