How to edit this mod to work and stay working: Download FO3edit, open FO3edit, Make sure you redownload this mod so it's easy to find in FO3edit(optional), right click on one of the files that show in module selection screen and select "select none", click on the ticker box next to "Fallout3.esm" and also the ticker box next to "MerchantsUnlimitedCaps.esm" which will be at the bottom of the list if you just downloaded it, That should open up the file for ya, On the left side of the screen you should see " [01] MerchantsUnlimitedCaps.esp ", click on the plus sign to the left of that, then click on the plus sign next to "Non-Player Character", Now you should see the names of all characters in game that have the increased caps, click on one of the names, on the right side of the screen you should see a lot of code, scroll down until you see "Items sorted" which is opened up several times with files shown within it, Look for a "count 65535", right click on that line and select "edit" Wait a couple seconds, and select "yes, I'm absolutely sure", the edit value box will pop up, change it to something under 32000, hit ok. Hit the x in the top right corner to close the app, it'll ask to confirm all changes, hit ok.
This may seem long and complicated procedure but it isn't. I'm just explaining in detail every step assuming you never used FO3edit. It's a really easy and convenient program to learn and solves tons of issues with mods. You can edit every detail for a weapon mod, armor, etc. Hope this helps someone.
Open the console (even while bartering), click on the vendor so that his/her identification name and number shows and type "removitem 0f xxxx" where "xxxx" is the amount of money you need to get rid of so the vendor has under 32000 caps. Hit enter, close the console and start selling.
Like others said before me, the game has a limit to the amount of caps a vendor can have to barter. They can have over 32000 caps but they won't transfer money from their inventory to yours when selling something to them. It's a Bethesda thing. Skyrim had the same limitation.
this mod will not work, 32k is a hard wired money cap in this game, i have been experimenting with this very prob, i have learned that a safe amount to give a trader in the editor is X50 large vendor caps in their container not their personal inventory, this will give a range, due to variables i have not figured out yet, of between 26- 30k caps in-game to the traders. good idea tho, but more than 32k just cant be done and have it work right. i could up-load what i have done so-far, but it would likely be incompatible with any mod that makes changes to the trader's inventory's. oh and if you should diy be sure to wait 3 game days for inventory's to reset before complaining it dont work.
I must say, it's not working properly. The same bug was in Skyrim by the way. If a merchant has more than 34000 bottle caps, there's a bug, and the merchant is buying items for 0 caps. The caps are not transferred from the merchant's inventory to the player's. The same was in Skyrim. So yes. I do have to use my console, click the merchant and type removeitem f 35000 And then the trade is working. but it's still less annoying, than before.
After a week of using this mod I just noticed that it's not working... Anyways I have 8k caps (probably should have like 20 or 30k, lol) But this mod helps me to know how much caps should I get after selling so I know how much I should add 00000F
It lets me sell junk items and gives me money, however if I try to sell 8 assault rifles it doesn't give me any money. Either it doesn't work well with one of my other mods or it is broken. =(
