About this mod

SHOULD be more accurate than the vanilla original Magnum/Sniper Rifle scope. Did very little test-firing, but it seemed better.

v1.1 changes
=============
Basically took a completely new approach and merely opened the scope01.nif in Nifskope and noticed that one of the vectors, specifically Y-vector under crosshair_new section was 12.00000, while X and Z were 0.00000. So, I changed the Y to 0.00000 also. I can only guess what this did, but to me it (12.00000) just seemed wrong. Anyway, tested again and now the aim seems dead on. With modded zero-spread Perforator bullets always seem to hit in the middle of the crosshair.

HOWEVER. There are cases when bullets hit BELOW the crosshair (like they used to... or was it above again?), specifically when you're close to your target. But further away... well, for some field testing, I sniped the Megaton residents, and I must say I was pleased with the results. So I guess this is the real deal.

At this point I have to say that I was also using Auto Aim Fix v1.1 the whole time, which supposedly eliminates the stupid auto-aim thing. So no more magic bullets, changing their trajectories mid-flight.

Feel free to express your potential discontent in Nexus, in comments section of this mod. I'm not entirely sure if there's anything more I can do. If it's not obvious yet, my know-how regarding Fallout 3 modding is that of a neanderthal, I just go with my hunches. And I take no responsiblity if something in this mod ruins your Fallout 3 experience. Inspires confidence, doesn't it? :)

Presumably Fixed Default Scope v1.0
==============================

Warning: I'm new at this

Ok, so as everyone probably knows the problem with the original Scoped .44 Magnum and the Sniper Rifle was that shots almost consistently went lower than where you aimed. It is as if... the scope was misaligned, on top of the damned auto-aiming. At first it seemed to me that the cross wasn't at the center when I looked at the scope really carefully. The horizontal line seemed to be on the upp-- lower half rather than in the middle.

So I finally had enough of it and went googling. I ended opening the Scope01.nif file with software called Nifskope, and noticed it pointed to a file called Scope01.dds (...I think) which I proceeded to extract and open with GIMP. In GIMP it's clearly visible that the lens isn't in the middle (see the screenshot) so I then cut and pasted the lens area and moved it a bit down, copypasted a portion of the black area to plug the empty area that was created, saved the .dds, opened the original .nif again, made it point to the new (presumably fixed) .dds file, and saved the .nif file. And that file is now here.

And I feel like a caveman who somehow fixed a broken car.

About testing this:
===============
I have to mention that I've removed most tracers from the game (used another mod, plus used FO3edit), so it's bit tricky to see where to shots land, however, it's possible to see where the bullets hit if you're close enough to a wall (the little spark animation). I used Perforator (a gun from The Pitt add-on) and fired a few magazines at the wall inside the Megaton home. And I felt relieved, as to me, the scope seemed better aligned. I did some killing with the Presumably Fixed Scope but.. like I said, no tracers. So take this "fix" with a (big) grain of salt.

Installation
=========

Extract and move the included Scope01.nif file to this folder:
Fallout 3\Data\Meshes\Interface\HUD
Create those folders if they don't exist. And that's it!
...I think.

Blah blah blah
============
No .esp for now. Someone else can do that. If you're a modder, and reading this, feel free to make a proper version of this "mod", i.e. a FOMM compatible mod or something.

If this turns out to be a placebo mod, I'll remove it. But, like I said, I THINK I got the scope adjusted. Feel free to argue, about how I'm deluded, or blind, or anything.

The End
