THIS MOD IS NO LONGER BEING UPDATED NOR SUPPORTED. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. FOR AN UPDATED AND EXPANDED VERSION PLEASE CHECK OUT More Scrap Metal CRAFTing BY Sigmond Droid. HE HAS TAKEN IT UPON HIMSELF TO UPDATE AND EXPAND THE MOD. I WILL PROBABLY NOT RETURN TO MOD FALLOUT 3 SO THIS IS THE LAST VERSION OF THIS MOD.
Amazingly amazing mod that gives new purpose to the game. when i play skyrim or new vegas, i like to immerse myself in the roleplaying. in skyrim, i am a simple miner or farmer. in new vegas i am either a meth dealer/booze baron or a bounty hunter. fallout three never had the immersion of role playing(yet it had some great scripting and setting which created a base for mods). now i am a simple rivet city citizen who turns tin cans into scrap metal and uses consoled may first labs to make drugs, THANK YOU
For anyone using FWE that wants to get rid of those annoying messages:
Open FO3Edit Navigate to fgScrapMetalCrafting.esp Click the "+" next to it to expand the entries Click the "+" next to Quest to expand the entries Select fgAddSparePartsNotes so it appears in the right-hand window In the DATA - General -> Flags field, right-click the top "Start game enabled", and select Edit Uncheck "Start game enabled" Click OK Close FO3Edit Click OK to save the file (make sure fgScrapMetalCrafting.esp is the only file selected, in case there are others) Done
I think you shouldn't do that. If you really want to, reinstall the mod every time you reach the level thresholds (50, 75, 100) then remove the flag agian or the mod won't be able to update and you won't get the exact amount of scrap metal you need.
Fantastic mod, thank you so much! I had almost run out of scrap metal and my ammo supply was dwindling. 3 tins per scrap was a little too cheaty for me though so I changed it to 5, works great.
Hail. I am using the tin can version, because it looks simple. But when I try to use any workbench to craft some metal, there just ain't no option. What am I doing wrong?
i love this mod works nicely along side badass repair mod because then repairing is a breeze.
but is there some way to convert more the 12 small pieces at a time?
i'm not sure about you but i tend to have a huge small to big piece difference. like around 80% small to 20% large so converting all that is a freaking pain at 12 a pop. i got 200 small pieces right now.
Ok I have indeed narrowed it down to an FWE compatibility issue. If you have repairs in combat turned off in the FWE options then your repair stat basically gets lowered by a large chunk [the derived stat rather than the base] when entering combat mode - this causes the Scrap Metal Crafting script to re-evaluate itself and re-assign the notes according to the current crafting level.
The only way I can see to fix it is to use Global Variables - which I am going to try on my own.
I don't know if this mod is being followed by the author any longer or is supported, but I figured I would try to see about a little issue I am having:
I just downloaded this today after finding it in a random nexus search [for all things that mentioned FWE]. I had been hoping to find a mod to create scrap metal and this one seems like it will fit the bill. I am having a slight issue however:
Every time I kill an enemy NPC or load a save game the note for the scrap metal crafting gets added twice. Every single time :/
I understand the need to add it once on mod initialize when loaded into a "clean" save, and an updated one when repair level hits a certain level but this is slightly irritating. I think it might be due to how FWE handles in combat repairs/repairs needing to be near workbench for full utility [I have in combat repairs turned off and the option turned on to limit repairs away from workbenches].
Any ideas on this? Any ideas on a quick and dirty fix for it if the mod author isn't around any longer?
I am going to dig around w/ FO3Edit and GECK to see if I can isolate the issue, but I do not want to make changes if the mod author/another user has a simple solution.
Iostami: look at the description, there is a mod that straightens bent tin cans. That's why I haven't added it. I don't think it's necessary.
rochasandro: darkUI I believe.
damagi: I checked it. There is a fomod file in the archive, just open that in FOMM as it is. Should work.
I'm at university now so I wasn't really active here. I'm not sure if I'll work on this again, as NV is out anyway (I'll get as soon as they bring out a GOTY with all the DLCs). But just so you got some answers.. if you ever look at this again.

This is a great mod, once that's sorted.
Scrap is essential for CRAFTing, yet you can't make it yourself from the mostly useless junk in the wasteland. Not anymore!

Endorsing soon as I can.
Why not add / include Tin Plates into this concept? Tin is tin, yes?
