I really like the mod but I can't dismiss recruited companions anymore, they just keep following me

    Updating my comment from 2020:

Here is a solution for everyone having trouble with villager type companions that are meant to flee in the vanilla game as soon as soon as combat starts:

    Alternative 1, applicable anytime:

    1. Press the console/tilde key
    2. Click on your companion
    3. Type "setav confidence 4" and press enter

As an explanation, there's a total of 5 confidence ratings in GECK that determine if an NPC will stay in combat, based on their remaining health:

0 Cowardly (default for villagers like Lucy West, Moira etc.) --> NPC will always flee upon hostile contact of any kind, no matter how healthy or well equipped they are.
    1 Cautious
    2 Average
    3 Brave
4 Foolhardy (NPC will fight to death no matter what)

1 - 3 doesn't even seem to work reliably and if it does, your companion will effectively be removed from combat for the entire remaining duration of the fight. I'd always go with 4, saves you the headache. Make sure your companions are set to essential.

Alternative 2, applicable only if you're starting a new game :

Edit the confidence levels of each individual NPC via GECK. There you can also change their class (like from villager to adventurer etc.) and aggression level. If you want to edit the aggression level, don't set it to frenzied or else the NPC will attack you on sight.

aside from the many issues others have posted about the thing that stops me using this mod is the fact you can't tell those you make into companions to "relax" aka sandbox A.I (sit/ sleep in beds/ eat) if that basic feature got added then i might try this but without it i wont

This mod doesn't work for any selected follower as they never follow you.

Sadly the mod really doesn't work that great. All the bugs and issues I've found so far:

    • As soon as you put your drawn weapon away in combat, your companions will start to frequently re-equip their weapons and shout their combat dialogue every 3 seconds. This is not only extremely annoying, but it seriously hinders their combat capabilities. You will want to have your weapon drawn at all times in any engagement, even if you're using heavy weapons which slow you down
    • NPCs sometimes freeze up or un-equip their weapons mid-combat. You can fix this issue by using the "Vanish" and "Recall" orders, which is really cheesy though, since it resets their health. Using this work-around can also lead to another problem, see below:
    • The original loadout of your recruited NPCs sometimes gets re-placed into their inventories. This will create items out of thin air, and also make them equip weapons & armor that you don't want them to use. The occurrence of this issue is amplified by using the "Vanish/Recall" feature
    • There are many immersion-breaking issues with NPCs holding their weapons wrong. Sometimes they'll hold their rifle one-handed, other times their weapon will float next to their hand, and occasionally equipped weapons even visually disappear from the companions body. They'll use their fist combat stance when you draw a weapon yourself, as if they didn't have a weapon in their inventory
    • The actor value named "Confidence" of NPCs doesn't get changed when you recruit them. If you recruit any person who is not combat-oriented in vanilla, then your companion will always flee and never initiate combat
    • More often than not, your companions will position themselves awkwardly behind a terminal, if you command them to hack it. Even worse, many terminals can't be hacked at all, because your recruited follower is somehow "unable to reach the terminal". Even though they're standing right in front of it. I assume that the same applies to followers lock-picking containers
    • Most of the "Command radio" orders don't work properly. If for example you command your follower to attack another neutral person, he will fire a single shot at them and then cease fire. Neither your companion nor the attacked NPC (who lost some health during the attack) will actually start to fight each other
    • Some of the configurable behaviour options don't seem to have any effect at all. You can tell them to not start engagements without you having your weapon drawn i.e., but they'll still aggro every single enemy that they spot regardless of you having your gun out or not
    • You can't recruit generic, unnamed NPCs (i.e. Brotherhood of Steel Knight), or else their AI will break
    • The <Companion Command> item is droppable and therefore unnecessarily shows up in the trading and container looting menu
    • In some rare instances, NPCs stationed at one of your rally points will keep trying to leave their new assigned homes only to repeatedly get teleported back by the mods script
    • More of a nit-pick, but the mod introduces 2 speech checks for every NPC in the game that you can talk to. The speech checks aren't that hard, and give you free experience everytime

I really love the concept of the mod, and I still enjoy features like setting up rally points and choosing new homes for different NPCs. It's a fun way to create outposts for your faction. I just wish that the core functionality of the mod would be in a more polished and bug-free state. I've expected more from a mod with this many downloads and endorsements.

The companions are not following me when I ask them to follow me. I wish you gave more information instead of just uploading the mod.

There is only 2 option I got: attack NPC or make NPC as an enemy. How to recruit them?
