Hello, I've been trying to get ChocolateBox to work for the past week but for some reason none of the solutions I find online help. I've tried all versions of ChocolateBox, I have an unmodded version of Fable TLC installed, I've put the correct path into the INI file, but I still keep coming across issues. (Though it's weird this can cause issues because I used FreeRoam and got Aeon Edition and ChocolateBox worked fine with those before.)
When I try using the newer version that's supposed to help with crashes, I get this error.
Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.
Could not load file or assembly 'FableMod.Gfx.Integration.dll' or one of its dependencies. The specified module could not be found.
Which is odd since I can see the dll it's talking about right there in the folder. Now I know Gfx has to do with the graphics card, but that doesn't make sense either. I had ChocolateBox on my last PC and it worked fine, and I've since transferred the same graphics card to my new PC when I got it, so it can't possibly be the graphics card being incompatible. I don't know what the problem is or how I can fix it, so I'm asking here.
If the issue can't be fixed, then maybe the error I get on the other versions can? This is what I get with the original file with multiple versions on it.

It does this whether I use Administrator mode or not or even if I update or mess up the Cbox INI file or not. It seems to be an issue before it even accesses the INI file as its not relevant for the error to occur. I've downloaded all available versions of .NET Framework and C++ Redistributables I could get in case ChocolateBox required a version I did not have, but the issue is still occurring. I've whitelisted ChocolateBox in my Firewall so that it won't interfere in case that was the issue, but the error won't go away.
I'm at a loss at what to do so I came here to ask you if you know what the issue is and what the solution would be, whether it'd be a really simple solution or an impossible task (Like if my CPU wasn't compatible or something). I just need some kind of answer because this is driving me mad.
If you need anymore information, I can provide it if it's necessary, like the Details of the errors or even the specifications of my PC. But I'm hoping it's a simple error with a simple solution, like I just need to run a command line in CMD to fix it or something.
EDIT: I don't know what happened, I didn't change anything, but after downloading the patched version again after a week, the error just magically stopped happening. No idea why, but cool I guess.
Hello, I am not sure if anyone will see this, but when I'm trying to launch ChocolateBox I get the error 'Unhandled exception', with 'could not load file or assembly 'fablemod.gfx.integration.dll'. Does anyone know a fix for this error?
I'm running into the same issue and I can't figure out what's wrong.
EDIT: Okay, I have no idea what changed, but after deleting and redownloading the files a couple of times, this error stopped happening. But now I'm getting a HRESULT 0x8007007E error and I'm having a hard time trying to resolve the issue.
There is an installation guide for this at YouTube with troubleshooting in the comments. If you prefer a written guide to install Chocolate Box I can help.
Here is what I did on Steam, but this may work for other platforms:
1. Download file from optional file section and unzip. 2. Extract cbox_250309. 3. Copy ChocolateBox-x64.exe and ChocolateBox.exe and paste them into the folder you just extracted named cbox_250309 4. Open the cbox_250309 folder and open the file named ChocolateBox.INI 5. Edit the line ;MyPath to reflect your installation folder. The line should look something like: ;MyPath = C:\Steam Games\steamapps\common\Fable The Lost Chapters 6. Now run the correct ChocolateBox.exe file for your system 32/64bit systems. Be sure to run as administrator to avoid any issues with writing to the location you have TLC installed.
If you receive the error "Object reference not set to an instance of an objectSystem.NullReferenceExeception: Object reference not set to an instance of an objectat Chocolate box.Settings.Load[]at ChocholateBox.FormMain.FormMain_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e)" Reopen the ChocolateBox.INI and switch the semicolon to the beginning of the fableregistry line as follows:
;FableRegistry = Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Fable\1.0 MyPath = C:\Steam Games\steamapps\common\Fable The Lost Chapters
Not sure if that semicolon switch is always necessary but it was for me.
Ty! Much less error-prone than Fable Explorer lol. Also simpler steps for me personally:
1. Drop Chocolate Box folder into install directory. 2. Open ChocolateBox.INI that should be inside the folder in notepad. 3. Replace the installation directory that is shown next to the "MyPath = " section.
Did you ever find it? i used google and that worked for me, im sure if you tried that 2 years ago it would take you just a few minutes to find the answer, since its been 2 years im SURE you've found it by now
I start the program it runs in the background but it doesn't bring up the window just the bit it contains. What can i do with this so that i can fix the error and even if i reinstall it always does that!
Hello, I had the same issue and the following steps fixed it:
1. Open Chocolate Box 2. If you can't see the window, then place your cursor over the CB icon on the taskbar until a square pops-up 3. Right-click the square and left-click maximize 4. Enjoy CB!
