You forgot to merge the vertices on the mesh, which caused seams (compare the top of the heads and it's pretty noticeable). Also, there are several spots that are too angular. Appreciate the effort, though. I fixed all of those. If anyone shows interest, I can upload my edited model with those fixes.
Not at all. It took almost two months before anyone replied, by that time I had long since moved on from this game. The modkit is also not very user-friendly, it took some serious research into how to import the mesh properly (it's not that difficult honestly, but just the process of finding the right file to replace was a terrible chore) and by then I was pretty much done with the game as a whole, LOL. Uninstalled it without even remembering about this post, and the model went along with it. Sorry to disappoint.
Autodesk Maya, but any 3D Modelling software would do. Blender is a good free alternative, especially with the latest updates (I would even say it's the all-around best option nowadays). The tricky part is to re-import the edited mesh into the game, but if you're familiar with UE3, the modkit is basically a stripped-down version of it. There's not a lot of reliable documentation due to Unreal Engine being close-sourced at the time, so you'll have to figure out a lot by yourself. Godspeed.
Honestly this was my first experience with blender and with modding in general no-one else really seemed to be trying to make mesh edits at the time so I tried my hand did meh. I had never really made anything thanks for the insight though probably wont ever do anything further with this though.
Do you think you can make a mod that removes body scaling? so that the hero always looks the same no matter how many point you put into skill or strength
