By any chances, do i have to meet the weapon requirement for it to work (By that i mean the animation popped up) because for now it doesnt work for me sadly.
That is awesome! Thank you. I've been attempting to to do this with the Glintstone Dagger and the Lazuli Glintstone Sword. The latter uses The Carian Straight Sword R2 by default. I enabled all the necessary flags to make it capable of Magic. Now it will cast spells, but the ability to use that R2 has been reduced to the stave sad bonk.
Oh no, it's the other way around. It cast's spells with R1, But bonks with R2. I wouldn't mind if it could do the regular straight sword R1's, and cast with R2. The ability to crit with it might be a little overpowered, But i could probably the reduce poise dmg or something to balance that a little.
How did you get it to cast with R2? It'd be awesome to give the staves an R1 Spear moveset, just with light blunt/strike damage instead of piercing. Always thought we should be able to at least poke with staves. Seriously, thank you for the response. Gonna try with the demi-human queen staff as a test.
If i read it correctly below, I should be able to use something like the cross-naginata as the specialweaponmotion, and still have it function as a catalyst with weaponmotion set to 41? If that works, Ill try changing it to a less balance breaking spear unique, or maybe the nagakiba r2 thrust? Be back in a few minutes.
Well, I'll be damned!? Short Spear/Cleanrot Spear as the special motion category on a stave unfortunately does not work , BUT: The Cross-Naginata (202) does!! Cast with R1, Attack with charged or uncharged R2. Gonna keep going through the list of spAtkcategory anims to see what else works.
Yeah the it's a pretty Inconsistent System that sometimes just works and doesn't work by itself, as long as you understand the basics then you can mix n match all you want
Crap, I forgot to update. I surely haven't found every unique animation in the game to try this with, but I did find and test A LOT of them. Below are the SpAtkCategory Anims that actually worked to create a functional hybrid catalyst :
And to a lesser degree: 128 - Banished Knight Greatsword, But only two handed for some reason. It didn't look particularly good with any of the staves though. I'll keep looking, but i think this is it. Slim pickin's, but proof it does work.
I dunno how they did it But the Elden Ring Reforged Mod managed to make Catalyst Weapons, Although those Are Actual Entire Mod Teams and Not Just Regulation.bin Edits
I'm not entirely certain either honestly. My best guess is that they're full on moveset mods, with what I can only imagine must be some fairly complex bells and whistles. As I have zero experience animation mixing yet, this will do for me right now. Though i do wish they would make at least one standalone hybrid catalyst available for Non-Reforged mods.
Special Motion Category: 210 (Halberd) Also works! But I only managed to use The Haberd/ Banished Knight Halberd's light attacks pressing R2. No running attack, no horseback attack no jumping attack, no backstep attack. Those seem to default to the Staff moveset and I have no clue how to change that. In order to gain access to those attack while changing a weapon's motion category to 41 (catalyst) one would have to change the staff moveset I suppose. Does anyone know if this can be done via regulation.bin modifications? And if so, which param/value?
Could you possibly clarify on the moveset bit? I was wanting to create a mod with some hybrid catalysts, including some shields, but I'm not sure how you actually get a shield to have its block feature on the heavy attack and casting with the light attack.
Change the entire weapon Category into a Catalyst, Then in Yapped or Dsmapstudio Change the Heavy attack into any special attacks (I do not know if there is one for shields though)

Update : turns out I'm a tad bit too busy right now to mod so I'll just tell you the steps and you can make your own 1: open either Yapped or Dsmapstudio 2 : after loading the Regulation.bin open Equipparamweapon and search for the Carian knight sword3: in the weapon motion category change the number to 41 which will turn it into a catalyst 4: tweak the Scaling as you wish (the scaling is the Correction type : magic option ) 5: go down to enables sorcery? And check the box as Yes6: export and replace the Regulation.bin in your game That's about it

170 - Hand axe/Ice Rind Axe/Forked Hachet animation set.
202 - Cross-Naginata
212 - Guardian Swordspear
