About this mod

GRR is a mod that wants to make Great Runes more iconic, appealing, and fun to use, but without them being overpowered!
It will also include an alternative "cheater" version for people who wanna have an easier time.

INTRODUCTION

GRR is a mod I made for personal use, but in the end I decided to upload it here for everyone.
While playing Elden Ring the Great Runes never truly felt like "Using the power of that shardbearer" to me.
They were just random buffs that SOMETIMES had something in common with that boss.
But this is all a bad memory, now they are at least iconic! Effects also have VFXs included!

Compatible with Elden Ring Regulation 1.09

WHAT DOES IT CHANGE?

I'm glad you asked. I will list how the Great Runes have been changed:

ALL Great Runes
1) Great Runes won't be removed with NG+, and you won't need to reactivate them at the Divine Towers.
2) Infinite source of Rune Arcs: the Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold now sells infinite amounts of Rune Arcs. (Note: The cost has been raised from 4000 to 8000)
3) Great Runes will have a slightly different description to better describe their new effects. The languages supported are English and Italian.

- Godrick's Great Rune
VANILLA                                           GRR
                                                         |
Raises all attributes by +5.            |Raises all attributes by +5.
                                                         |Raises all damage dealt by +5%.
                                                         |Decreases damage received by -5%.
                                                         |Raises resistance to all status by 50.

Godrick grafted several things into his body, but nothing exceptional (except for the Drake head, but he only did that during the fight).
So his rune gives a bit of everything. A bit of attributes, a bit of damage, a bit of damage mitigation, and a bit of resistance to status.
It doesn't differ too much from the Vanilla version, but it's an early-game Great Rune afterall, you can't really expect a Great Rune
with +70% damage increase at level 30.

- Radahn's Great Rune
VANILLA                                           GRR
                                                         |
Increases HP, Stamina, and          |Raises Strength by +10.
FP by 15%.                                      |Increases Stamina, and FP by 15%.
                                                         |Stamina will regenerate by 10 per second.

Radahn is known for his immense strength and stamina, but not really for how bulky he was.
His rune is also known as the "Rune for tanks". While tanks like having more HP, they mostly
use their shield to survive. So passive Stamina regeneration will benefit them greatly.

This one, too, doesn't differ too much from the Vanilla version, but this is already a good Great Rune
so overbuffing it would be pointless.

- Rykard's Great Rune
VANILLA                                           GRR
                                                          |
Restores 80 HP plus 7% of your    |Raises Vigor by +10.
Total HP upon defeating enemies.|HP will regenerate by 30 every 2 seconds.
                                                          |Killing an enemy will restore 30% Max HP and
                                                          |raise all damage dealt by +15% for 6 seconds.

Rykard chased immortality with all his might. While immortality is not truly achievable for you,
I thought that absorbing the essence of your enemies was fitting for his character.

I also included a slight passive HP regeneration, because lizard (also snakes? Maybe? Idk) can
regenerate lost limbs, even if it takes some time.
It should be enough to counter Poison DoT, for example, but not enough for Scarlet Rot.

- Morgott's Great Rune
VANILLA                                           GRR
                                                         |
Greatly raises maximum HP.         |Raises Faith by +10.
(25%)                                                |Enhances Lightning and Holy damage by 15%.
                                                          |Immunity to Madness status.

Ok listen.
What the f*ck.
What kind of Great Rune is this? Max HP? And that's it? What does that have in common with Morgott?
This is one of the TWO Great Runes that I was so happy to change. This was mostly USELESS since
9/10 of time people would prefer Radahn's rune over this.

As the Erdtree's protector, he deserved more than this.
Damage increase is of course stackable with other similar effects!
(Spoiler: A mini-revamp for this rune is in progress.)

- Mohg's Great Rune
VANILLA                                               GRR
                                                              |
Grants a "Blessing of Blood"              |Raises Arcane by +10.

world. (Check Wiki)                            |Also, your Blood Incantations (NOT Thorn Sorceries)
                                                             |and Blood Ashes of War gain +20% damage for 15 seconds.
                                                             |Immunity to Bleed.
                                                             |(Still grants "Blessing of Blood" effect)

This is the second Great Rune I was happy to change that I mentioned in Morgott's rune description.
Seriously? The "Lord of Blood" who doesn't even summon a single thing gives a lame buff to summons?
I mean yeah sure that would still be pretty damn cool for a Necromancer or something like that, but
Mohg is not Nito from DS1!

I decided to leave his Blessing of Blood buff, because it's very particular and some people could still
really like that, but everything else had to be changed.
Now the Lord of Blood's rune will actually do something about blood, and since YOU're the Lord
of Blood now, you're naturally IMMUNE to blood.

Imagine that, an extremely powerful monarch who controls blood that dies from bleeding.
Wouldn't that be ironic?

"Blood Ashes of War" include: Blood Slash, Blood Blade, Reduvia's Blood Blade, Corpse Piler (Rivers of Blood),
Bloodboon Ritual (Mohgwin's Sacred Spear) and Cursed-blood Slice (Morgott's Cursed Sword).
I'll add Bloodblade Dance too in the next update!

Note 1: The Bleed buff on the weapon will apply to other NON-RANGED ashes of war too. (Ex: Repeating Thrust, Unsheathe, Spinning Slash, Square Off, etc etc)
Note 2: The Bleed buff will VANISH if you apply it and then switch to another weapon. (Basically, it works like any Grease buff)
Note 3: The "Blood Ashes of War" buff is applied to the player, not the weapon, so switching weapons will NOT make it vanish.

- Malenia's Great Rune
VANILLA                                               GRR
                                                              |
Attacks dealt after taking damage    |Raises Dexterity by +10.

Effectiveness of Flask of                    |Boosts Attack power with consecutive attacks (10%, 15%, 20%).
Crimson Tears is reduced to 70%.     |Decreases attack's stamina consumption (-10%) and Skills
                                                               |(AoWs) FP consumption (25%).
                                                               |Immunity to Scarlet Rot.
                                                               |(Still grants the Vanilla effects, healings don't override each other.)
                                                               |Effectiveness of Flask of Crimson Tears is reduced to 45% instead of 70%

Good ol' Bloodborne HP regeneration is good, but that was really too simple for Malenia.
We're talking about MALENIA, loremasters knows.
My idea is that Malenia's rune is made for people with very, VERY, aggressive playstyles.
They don't heal often, they don't use shields, they always prefer going for a "Dodge -> Attack" Style.

And if you are one of those, trust me, you will be greatly rewarded by that playstyle of yours.
I nerfed FoCT even more for that reason. You CAN heal with your Flasks, but that should be
your last ace. You should focus on dodging and deal big damage with your AoWs.
Less effectiveness also encourages you to bring more Cerulean Flasks!

Rennala's Great Rune BETA!
VANILLA                                               GRR
                                                              |
Doesn't exist. You'll receive                |Raises Mind and Intelligence by +10.
"Great Rune of the Unborn",               |Increase FP by 25%.
used to Perfect Rebirth.                     |FP will regenerate by 4 every 2 seconds.
                                                              |Sorceries' casting animation is slightly
                                                              |sped-up, and their damage is raised by 10%.

I didn't forget you, Mage players, and I want to complete this as soon as possible.
Each player should have a Great Rune that adapts to their playstyle, and there is no
such thing for Full-Mage builds.
I mean yeah, Radahn's rune gives you a bit more FP%, but does it really gives you something
that actually helps Mage builds?

I never played Mage, but the most frustrating thing I can think of for a Mage is to
automatically lose the battle because you are out of Flasks and FP.
You're still alive, you're good at dodging the boss, but you can't cast anything because
you're out of FP sources.
Maybe you're low leveled and you went against a powerful boss. Melee players can do that
and still win the fight, so why can't Mages do the same? We want equality for our four-eyed brothers!

IMPORTANT INFO: This rune is still in BETA. It is incomplete in VFXs and drop.
Right now this rune is NOT dropped by Rennala. Instead it is sold by Twin Maiden Husks at Roundtable Hold.
The rune IS now dropped by Rennala after v1.4!
It is a CONSUMABLE item (not a Great Rune). Its Icon is Malenia's Great Rune's one just temporarily.
Description and name should have no problem in both English and Italian.
It also has some annoying bugs, but they can be avoided. You can find more info in the "Known Bugs" section.

FUTURE CHANGES

  • - GRFC - Great Runes For Cheaters v1.0

I don't like cheats, at all, but I have no reason to discriminate people who likes that!
Everyone should play as they like, and if you like to ruin your game's balance because
it's more fun to you, then who am I to stop you?

Every Great Rune will be MASSIVELY buffed in its effects, but they won't receive new/less of them.

For example, I can spoiler you that Malenia's Great Rune will make you regenerate 70% of Max HP per hit!!!
You will be an unstoppable machine, but with your own style. It's really too boring to just
have a "Ok I'll deal 9.999.999 damage with everything, even fists" effect. At least I'll try to make it cool for you!

INSTALLATION

  • Download the .zip file from the "Download" tab.
  • Extract it in your Mod Engine 2.0 folder and add this to config_eldenring.toml :  {enabled = true, name = "GreatRunesRevisited", path = "GRR" } . Read the Mod Engine 2.0 instructions carefully if you don't understand where to write that.
  • Launch the mod using "launchmod_eldenring.bat".

This mod IS compatible with Seamless Coop but it almost surely ISN'T compatible with other mods that touches Great Runes values.

A .CSV and .FMG package is available on the "Optional Files" category, but I won't explain here how to do the merging. You'll have to know that by yourself.

CHANGELOG

v1.4.1:
  • Compatibility with Elden Ring 1.09.

v1.4:
  • Rennala's Great Rune is now correctly dropped by Rennala! Unfortunately, this also means that the rune is REMOVED from the Twin Maiden Husks shop.

v1.3:
  • Godrick's Great Rune was bugged and RAISED damage received by +5%. Now it DECREASES damage received by -5% as intended.

v1.2:
  • Rennala's Great Rune has been temporarily, as it is in BETA, added to Twin Maiden Husks shop.
  • Great Runes WON'T get removed with NG+! Enjoy your NG+ without the annoyance of re-collecting and re-activating every single Great Rune. No more Divine Towers for you!
  • Adjusted Malenia's Great Rune's effect description. (Now it states that it only activates with MELEE attacks. This means that bows and spells do NOT count for the Lifesteal on-hit effect)
  • Blood Blade and Blood Slash now works with Mohg's Great Rune.

v1.1:
  • The Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold now sells INFINITE amounts of Rune Arcs, but their cost changed from 4000 to 8000. This is to prevent the possibility of running out of Rune Arcs.
  • Since this version, the archives will be .zip, and not .rar.

KNOWN BUGS

  • Rykard's Great Rune HP% Heal WON'T activate if you kill an enemy at Melee distance and immediately roll away 1-2 times. [Note: This probably doesn't apply to ALL enemies, but just to some of them. This bug probably afflicts the Damage% buff too.]
  • One of Mohg's Great Rune's Bleed Buffs' VFX will proc continuously in a Seamless Coop game and will lead to a crash. This is not fixable, to my knowledge, so you'll have to play with the "VFXs nerfed" version in the Optional Files tab.
  • Rennala's Great Rune can't be activated if another Great Rune is active (this is intended), but a Great Rune can be activated AFTER Rennala's Rune is activated, granting both Runes' buffs at the same time.
  • Rennala's Great Rune effect will deactivate once you exit the game, teleport, or rest at a grace forcing you to reactivate it.
  • Rennala's Great Rune doesn't consume a Rune Arc after activation.

FAQ

Q) There's an annoying bug here, how can I fix it?
A) Ask for it in the "Posts" tab and I'll try to see what's wrong. If there IS something wrong I will try to fix it in a future version.
But please, respect this conditions:
- Make sure you're using the latest version.
- Check if your bug has already been reported by someone else before submitting it.
- If possible, try to include steps for reproducing the bug.
- Seriously, check if someone already asked for the same thing.

Q) [Insert Great Rune here]'s effect feels unbalanced (too strong/weak), can you nerf/buff it?
A) I can, and actually I look forward to that, but I can NOT do that blindly.
If you like the mod, consider endorsing it. The mod going to the top means more downloads. More downloads means more data, and more data gives me an accurate statistic I can use to balance things out. It can also draw the attention of other modders that can help with annoying bug fixes.
If you want the mod to be better, you CAN indirectly help with that, so I would really appreciate you to do so!

Q) Does this work for cracked/pirated games?
A) I don't know, maybe it does, but I'm not supporting this anyway.

Q) I don't like [Insert Great Rune here]'s effect! It's stupid, can you change it?
A) No. As I said in the Introduction I made this mod FOR PERSONAL USE. The reason why I'm uploading it here is because I think that some other people could like this. If you don't like something, you're not forced do play with this.
However, I do accept suggestions from posts, as long as they're expressed politely.

Q) Can I modify or redistribute this mod?
A) If you want to contribute in some way you can tell me your opinion in the "Posts" tab and I could consider it, but don't take it for granted.
If you want to help with the code I will gladly accept your help, you will receive a special thanks for that too, but don't do it without my permission.
I don't allow anyone to redistribute this mod or include it in modpacks without my permission.
Having said that, I give everyone complete permission of modifying this mod FOR PERSONAL USE.

Q) Will updating the mod affect my current playthrough with it?
A) No. You can install it and play it right away on an already used Save file. You won't get banned using Mod Engine 2, so don't worry about that.

Q) How can I use this mod with Seamless Coop?
A) Details can be found in the mod page of the author of that mod.

Q) Is there any .CSV for merging?
A) You can find them in the Optional Files category in the "Download" tab!
I added a README file to make sure you'll be able to check the IDs BEFORE merging.

Q) I have a question not answered here.
A) If you have something specific to ask, you can do that in the "Posts" tab.

Special thanks to HenrykSovrano for helping through the process, this is my first mod and I wouldn't be able to make it without their help.
