About this mod

An overhaul of Morgott's moveset, logic and parameters, which turns him into one of the hardest (and hopefully most interesting) bosses in the game.

I think everyone will agree that the base-game Morgott fight feels like a letdown. Not only are the boss's health and damage numbers way too low, his moveset is really simple and doesn't take much concentration and memorisation to deal with at all. The latter is especially ridiculous: not only is it significantly easier than the movesets of earlier bosses such as Godskin Apostle and Radahn, but I'd actually say it's easier than that of Margit. So this mod sets out to fix it… and beyond.

Apart from making a few obvious changes, like buffing Morgott's damage and health values, this overhaul includes the following:

  • The speed of most of the attacks has been adjusted. Some attacks are sped up significantly, to force the player to actually react quickly. Some are sped up less, mostly for cosmetic value, to get rid of the feeling that the boss moves in slow motion (which I personally experienced when comparing him to other humanoid bosses, such as Malenia and the Apostle). Some parts of the attacks may be slowed down instead, be it to extend the attack's duration and force the player to evade the attack instead of just i-framing into it and staying there, or to give the boss mixup opportunities.

  • Some attacks which I don't like, such as Morgott's default holy sword follow-up and his 2nd phase ultimate, have been removed from the moveset entirely. Instead, some of attacks exclusive to Margit in base game have been added and adjusted accordingly.

  • Using the new adjusted versions of the attacks, the combo potential has been greatly extended. Now pretty much everything Morgott does can have at least two meaningful follow-ups, which will require the player to react differently. The follow-ups differ depending on player position, so the boss feels more intelligent than the base game version. The combos are significantly longer than in the base game; as such, learning when to attack and how to properly position in order to maximise attack opportunities is key — and so is stamina management.

  • The usefulness and usage of the ranged and distance-closing attacks has been greatly improved, as was the overall flow of the battle, as a result.

  • Morgott can now dodge and counterattack! Which synergizes greatly with the previous listed change, as after creating distance he is now far more likely to use ranged or distance-closing attacks than to just walk back to the player.

  • And so on.

Now, keep in mind that this mod is NOT meant to fit the base game — as in, this modified Morgott is NOT about as difficult as the boss of the fourth major location should have been. He is instead one of the hardest bosses in the game, if not the hardest, with a moveset (in my opinion) harder than that of Hoarah Loux, Radagon or Malenia, and the health to match Malenia as well. If you are in NG, he should absolutely be fought last of all the demigods available before reaching the Mountaintops. I hope that the difficulty doesn't come off as cheap — that's not what I was trying to achieve. My goal was to provide those willing with a really steep and, hopefully, satisfying challenge that could not possibly have been presented in the base game.

The mod is split into three versions. They are identical gameplay-wise and only differ in the audiovisual flair.

Below is a recording showcasing most of the modded boss's abilities. If you like what you see, go on ahead and download!

Installation:

To install the mod, use Mod Engine 2.

1. Download the latest version of Mod Engine 2 and extract the zip file to a folder.

2. Download the latest version of the mod and put the "mod" folder in the same directory as the extracted Mod Engine 2 files. If you                      are currently using other mods, rename your current "mod" folder to something else and then copy mine, to avoid mod conflicts.

3. Make sure Steam is open.

4. Run "launchmod_eldenring.bat" to start the mod.

The mod also comes with a HUD modification where the boss bar is moved to the bottom of the screen and the status effect bars — to the left, to provide a large, uninterrupted central frame. If you don't like these changes, remove the "menu" folder from the provided "mod" folder.

The mod breaks the Godfrey fights. Turn the mod off when fighting him or temporarily rename /mod/chr/c4720.anibnd.dcx to something else to prevent the mod from overriding his animation properties.

For those don't have a save file near Morgott and want to just try him ASAP, I'm including my save file from just before the battle. To transfer the character to your save, use this tool. In the tool, select my save file as "Source file" and your own as "Destination file" (save files are stored in %system disk%/Users/%username%/AppData/Roaming/EldenRing/%unique number%; you might need to toggle on "Show hidden files, folders and drives" in Windows settings to see the AppData folder). Then select the character "Siegfried" in "Copy from" and select the character you want to override, or an empty character slot, in "Copy to" and click "Copy". Launch the game with the updated destination file.

If the game gives an error when trying to load save data, launch the game normally through Steam and reach the main menu (press any button). Then close the game and launch the mod again.

The mod that inspired me to try my hand at custom battles in the first place was Sekiro: Resurrection. If you are into Sekiro, absolutely go and give that mod a try, if you haven't already!
