    Updated for latest community patch

2022-09-01 There is a currently an xp event for DL2. Events break the player.variable file so the mod wont work until after the weekend. Playing offline might solve it, thread gets locked until monday to  minimize spam.

I found that most, or all of these durability mods either broke something else or became outdated. So I decided to just edit the files myself.

It's very easy to edit the game files to apply this effect yourself without needing a mod. All you need to do it is the 7-Zip program. Go install that program. With these edits, if done properly, the durability mod will work on every difficulty, and your grapple ability will still work properly too.

    1. Go to Dying Light 2\ph\source
    2. Delete the mod file data2.pak
    3. Make a copy of data0.pak and either leave it in the folder or set it aside somewhere for safe keeping. Right-click the original data0.pak > 7-Zip > Open Archive
    4. Scroll down to scripts > player
    5. Now, there are a few script files you need to edit: player_variables.scr, player_variables_easy.scr and player_variables_nightmare.scr. For some reason, "hard" doesn't have anything related to durability.
    6. Open player_variables.scr by right-clicking and selecting "Edit". Once the document has opened, hit Ctrl+F, select "Down" to make sure it searches downward, then enter "durability". Hit enter. There will be two options, go to "MeleeWpnDurabilityMulReduce" and change the variable to "0.0".
    7. Save the document.
    8. Now, simply do the same with the other two files, easy and nightmare, and change the same variable to "0.0".
    9. When you close the 7-Zip program, it'll say you made changes to the files, tell it you want to save the changes.

This SOUNDS like a lot, but it's not. It's very simple, and once you've done it once, it'll be far easier the next time. Any time the game is updated, simply go check these settings and if they've changed, put them back like this. Don't copy the modified file and simply replace it after an update, because the .scr files might have been changed in the update and you'll be replacing it with the old version of the scripts. You'll have to go in and edit these lines after every update. Takes less than 5 minutes to do it.

Just had to redo my weapon degrade mod due to the latest update. I did what Obscene911 wrote below and it works. Haven't noticed any problems yet.

I think it doesn't have a variable in the hard difficulty file, because it simply uses the base one from player_variables.scr.
The game always uses that, and the difficulty settings may or may not overwrite some of those variables to change the difficulty.

Anyways, thank you very much for this post. I probably could have found out myself, but you saved me quite some time.

I did that.. the edits are there.. data0.pak with 7z.. 0.0 in all 3 files. Goona check again, but it so far didnt work. Steam version.

Do I have to start a new game? My weapon still lost durability and broke.

I did receive a warning "you are using edited files" something like that.

It used to work for me but today for some reason stoped working. Maybe update did something?

Edit*: found out that if you switch to easy difficulty the durability doesn't go down but on normal difficulty it does for some reason.
Second edit* for this to work on other difficulties you have to go offline and play the game

Very strangely it worked fine for me for a while. But since today it stopped working. I am quite puzzled by this and checked, as to whether or not data0.pak was updated/ changed. But all relevant changes I made are still in place. So at this point I do not know what changed, but I find it strange. Also none of the other mods I use alter the same files except one, which I modified to make the changes work. So it can't realistically be another mod conflicting as far as I can tell. Anyone else experiencing the same problems?

@dovakyni has it.  You have to go to Steam, click Steam menu, and go to "Offline mode".  Once I did that, my weapons durability stopped counting down.

If you really want or care to get something done about it, email "[email protected]" and ask them to forward your complaint to the devs. Tell them you either want to be able to disable weapon durability loss officially in-game, or to revert it so we can modify the files ourselves. If not, tell them to make it clear to the public that their game is not mod-friendly.

They updated the game again, and made it so you can only use modified game files if you're playing with Steam in offline mode. If you're online, it won't work.

Dying Light 2 Stay Humanph\source\data0.pak (opened with rar) copies script\player_variables.scr and the corresponding difficulty player_variables_[ difficulty].scr (e.g. player_ variables_easy.scr).

Open with txt and modify the MeleeWpnDurabilityMulReduce parameter in the file:

    Param("MeleeWpnDurabilityMulReduce", "1");

Change 1 to 0.5 to reduce durability by 50%. Set to 0 and it will not consume durability.

Finally, put the modified .scr into a rar named data2.pak. The directory should follow the one in data0.

The final data2.pak will have :

    script/player/player_variables.scr
                           player_variables_[ difficulty ].scr

In addition, the author has modified the ChargeWeaponDurabilityMul parameter, but I did not modify the durability is not affected, change it or not depends on you.

    Param("ChargeWeaponDurabilityMul", "1");

Everything works, but at the same time I don't get damage from zombies, only from falling and explosions. What is the problem?

Would you be willing to post what changes you made to player_variables.scr ?
I can't get the mod to work without removing all XP gains (even when playing offline).

    Edit:
Never mind. I found the files on the "Not working" bug report; specifically, the post by Mixail.
I tried making the file modifications as specified, but I couldn't get it to work no matter what I did.

So instead of adding another dataX.pak file, I tried to modify the original files found in data0.pak. (I changed the file for each difficulty too even though I'm playing on Normal.)

I confirmed that this method worked for me. The durability of my weapons did not decrease, and I was still able to gain XP (both combat and parkour). I also did not need to play offline.

Note: That this has only been tested during daytime hours. I don't expect it to change during nighttime, but I wanted to be specific since there seems to be so much trouble with this mod.

HOW??? I checked the scr for each gamemode and only nightmare has the longest parameter and it's the only that contains the weapon durability.

Thank you, I figured it out. The people having trouble just need to use the search in their text editor to find the weapon durability line. I used notepad to make the changes. Getting exp now with zero durability loss.

They might be trying to edit the mods data.pak instead of their data0.pak. that's all I can think of.

so for some reason when i instal the mod, go offline to circumvent the event disabling mods - mod works, but i cease to get any sort of experience. no parkour, no combat xp granted whatsoever.
