Nightfall changes many gameplay mechanics for a more immersive, realistic and terrifying experience. Damage received is increased, stamina is tweaked, parkour mechanics are changed, HUD elements are removed and Volatiles now insta-detect among many other changes. Not an overhaul. Think of it as a Nightmare mode ++.

What is Nightfall?

This is a mod that changes many gameplay mechanics for a more immersive, realistic and terrifying experience. You will need to be constantly aware of your surroundings and use all of your wit and resources in order to survive. Play on Nightmare mode as this mod is balanced around that. I hope you enjoy it!

Gameplay Changes

  • Parkour and physics has been altered to provide a more realistic, challenging and satisfying experience. Falling height to receive damage has been reduced and sprint speed and momentum has been nerfed. Safe landing and parkour roll skills are unlockable earlier to compensate for the added challenge. Many thanks to TomAnyone for his "Human Movement" mod which I used a starting point for these changes. Don't break your legs...
  • Removed (most) random viral spawns. The constant flood of heatseeking virals on harder modes is annoying AF. Virals will still spawn if you make enough noise so stay quiet. 
  • Survivor sense now only pings enemies that are within view and only very briefly. No more seeing the Volatiles through walls.
  • Volatiles and Nightwalkers now instantly spot you. When playing at night take it slow and listen out for their breathing and footsteps. 
  • Biter damage is massively increased on Hard and Nightmare modes. Now even at a high level a small group of Biters is still a danger.
  • Added the ability to check the time. Default keybinding is 4.
  • Reduced the range and cone of the flashlight as well as dimming it slightly. The flashlight will also run out of charge quicker and take longer to regenerate. Credits to StinVec for giving me the idea for this and his mod "flashlight control". This makes such a big difference in atmosphere during the night. Feel the oppression of nightfall.
  • Grappling hook range is reduced to 3 meters. No more Spiderman. Use the hook to reach slightly out of reach ledges and to save you from near misses during parkour.
  • Firearm headshot damage is massively increased. Blow their heads off.
  • Reduced player health.
  • Removed the fall helper module (the lock on to trashbags and car roofs).
  • Reduced inventory size for weapons and equipment. Pack wisely for runs outside the safezones.
  • Stamina regeneration speed is nerfed. Disables infinite stamina on Hard mod (still requires some testing).
  • Increased Biter variety after survivor rank 25. Credits to KillerHell's "Zombie Diversity".
  • Increased enemy weapon variety after survivor rank 25. Credits to KillerHell's "Proper Weapon Probability".
  • Slightly increased damage given to Biters on nightmare mode to reduce spongeyness. 
  • Changed stealth takedown animation to a chokeout. Stealth takedown now unlockable much earlier.

Audio Changes

  • Audio changes from TomAnyone's "No Spend Reminder", "Mute Charged Attacks", "No Night Loop", "No Sixth Sense". Additional audio has been muted such as safezone entering/ exiting and night survived amongst others. 
  • Viral spawn sound effect has been muted. It is annoying beyond belief. Listen out for Virals screaming to alert you to their presence.

HUD/ Visual Changes
  • Changes from TomAnyone's "Sixth Sense".
  • Immersive HUD from N1x1 
  • Removed SpeedFX and SpeedPP (effects when running)
  • Post Process changes from "Living Light" by KillerHell
