Dungeon Siege - High Resolution Textures
High Resolution Textures for Dungeon Siege made using AI image upscaling ESRGAN.

Introduction
After more than 4 months of work the final release of the texture pack for Dungeon Siege contains 3929 updated textures and is 5.97 GB large (compared to original textures that are 700 MB).

Since the algorithm increases width and height of texture by 4, this means 16 times increase in surface and file size.

All terrain textures from the vanilla game have been updated, 750 world objects, as well as bosses and some larger enemies and NPCs.

Probably more than 99.9% of textures were updated using the "Misc" model."Misc" is a fantastic universal model created by "Alsa", other models used were "Manga109Attempt", "Skyrim Wood" and "Ground", Manga109Attempt was used for things that are supposed to look cartoony, like paintings or carpets with colorful designs, "Ground" was used for grass terrain around Fortress Kroth, "Misc" didn't give good results there, didn't really recognized what is supposed to be grass.

A lot of work went into fixing and tweaking the original textures in GIMP to prepare them for ESRGAN for optimal results, the original textures were often blurry, some were too pixelated, others had compression artifacts that would be further exaggerated when upscaling. Simple use of noise and denoise filters on original textures produced great results, also some sharpening of original textures before sending it to processing helped a lot.

Some of the areas which have been updated:
  • Farmlands
  • Crypts Of Sacred Blood
  • Stonebridge
  • Wesrin Cross
  • Glacern
  • Gliterdelve Mine
  • Ice/Crystal Caverns
  • Forest/Traveler Camp
  • Snow Area Terrain
  • Cliffs Of Fire
  • Castle Ehb
  • Fortress Kroth
  • Lava Caverns
  • Gom Lair
  • Swamp
  • Caves
  • Goblins

Anisotropic Filtering
Anisotropic filtering is a texture rendering technique that renders textures in higher quality when viewed at an angle. It is most
noticeable on floor in the distance and walls.

For best visual experience force 16x anisotropic filtering in your graphics card control panel.

Dungeon Siege does not support it natively, so it needs to be enabled in the graphics card control panel.
