NOTE: Due to an increased amount of questions regarding this subject: this is a Save Manager, not a Save Editor. So no, you can't update the name of your Main Pawn with this or anything else the game won't let you do. You also cannot move saves from one Steam account to the other. It is however in research to be able to do that at some point, but it has no real progression as of yet.

    Latest version: v1.3.0 (April 9th 2024)
A new version has been released with a whole bunch of Quality-of-Life changes! I'll summarize a handful of items:
    - Added option to toggle dark-mode UI*
    - Added option to move saves/backups to the recycle bin instead of permanently deleting them (Default: On)
    - Added configurable global hotkey to create a manual backup (Default: CTRL+ALT+F5**)
    - Added context-menu option to validate one or more backups
    - Removed backup validation following a refresh for performance reasons

    * This was an absolute pain due to a lot of WPF weirdness, but I took the hit for you all.
** Right-click the "Create backup"-button to change it!

There is rudimentary localization support, the strings have changed since the last version (v1.2.1). Run the application with -export-localization once, rename DD2SaveManager-Localization-Template.json to DD2SaveManager-Localization.json and start translating! Next time you launch the application, it will use your translated strings. Please share your translations with me once I have the Github repository up and running :)

    Coming in next version
    - Some crude trickery to make a screenshot without REFramework

    Must / High priority
    - Record a video tutorial
    - Open-source the code, since it's getting into a relatively good place now.
    - Make sure DD2SaveManager.json is saved after changes.
    - Add additional exception handling based on log-files.

    Should / Normal priority
    - Finish support for localization after a bunch of translations have been made
    - Detect autosave vs Inn save and name them accordingly, instead of n/a
    - IDEA: Can we swap a normal save to an Inn-save and other way around?
    - Remember column widths

    Could / Low priority
    - Make a screenshot when a save is made (NOTE: Interop using REFramework is in progress, so could make this possible)
    - Web UI for in-game steam browser and/or RE Framework UI (NOTE: Interop using REFramework is in progress, so could make in-game notifications possible)
    - Steam Deck support
    - Change default backup to NOT be in userdata following multiple reports of weird behavior (most likely Steam Cloud Save related).
I've added additional checks before deleting backups - let's see how that goes first.

    Won't (for now)
    - Transfer saves between Steam accounts (NOTE: Research in progress)
    - Transfer saves between Character Editor and DD2 (NOTE: Research in progress)
    - Save editor (NOTE: Research in progress)

I'm curious if this is a bug that has already been noticed.

After some time my game will stutter and lag every time an auto save triggers. A lot of online searching pointed towards this mod as a common factor and that people had to re-download the game and reduce the number of save backups to resolve it.

I tried having save manager only save every 20 minutes, but it still occurred every time the game auto-saved. Also tried creating security exceptions for conifg.ini and DD2 but that didn't do anything.

This didn't happen initially. It's a newer problem so let me know if you've heard of this in regards to your mod. Currently re-downloading my own game so we'll see if that fixes my issue like others have mentioned.

I think 1 or 2 mentioned it here. But personally, I feel people will blame just about anything to squeeze every bit of performance this badly optimized game can give you :P

I've been doing very lengthy playing sessions with the application running and have not noticed any slowdowns. I do have the game installed on a NVMe SSD, which obviously helps significantly for both the game as well as the application.

The game is extremely save happy. It will auto-save after every encounter, at set points in the game, certain locations, after doing particular actions. If you have it saving the saves to a slow drive (Steam installation), you're going to feel it, especially if the application is making backups at the same time. Even if you set your time between to 20 minutes, it will still make a backup every time the game saves, but it will tag it as a "temporary save", meaning the next backup is supposed to replace it.

But re-downloading the game sounds like the most stupid solution there is. The application does not touch your game files at all. If anything, files could get corrupted for various reasons, but then the game will most likely simply stop running/crash, rather than very specifically slow down during an auto-save :P

      /rant - haha.

TL;DR; People look for excuses, whereas Capcom is to blame here, mostly. And hardware.

I want to check a quick thing.

I have added support for screenshots in the next version. Works great, but the way the tool handles it memory wise is far from optimal. About 3MB of memory per image in the list (after tweaking it a lot), but only if you looked at the screenshot. Skipping "cache" and always live-loading the image to prevent the memory overhead doesn't seem to work, yet.

Should I not be able to fix the memory issue, should I:
    - Include an option to toggle screenshot-taking on/off?
    - Just accept this is cause and effect?

    Thanks!

So I did some things and have been playing for over 4 hours with the program running constantly (with the game saving pretty much every minute...), and it seems I have tamed the particular issue and memory stays really consistent, so this question can be considered void!

I was skeptical of needing it, but I admit having a screenshot is really useful to identify saves :P

Here is a sneak-peak of how it looks.

Basically, it will take a screenshot the moment it detects changes. When the backup is actually created, it will take that screenshot along. The screenshot is stored in the resolution you are running the game in (no matter windowed/fullscreen/borderless fullscreen) as part of your save, but is downsampled to 640px wide (for memory purposes) when you hover over the image-icon in the row.

I don't know what happened. I started a new game, everything worked fine, then I decided to switch to my old save, and its a completely new game, and it stutters constantly. I don't understand what went wrong.

Is this because of the recent Capcom update?

Edit: Can confirm, when I switched to another save all of my saves were corrupted. I think it has to do with the pawn update Capcom put out. Oh well..

Did you restart the game after switching saves? The game holds a certain amount of metadata of your previous save, and if you load something completely different than it expects, it will tag the saves as "corrupted" - while they are not.

I backed up the old save, and started a new one through the save manager. It all worked completely fine, I played on the new one for a while, but when I switched back yesterday, it was a brand new save, and the performance was awful for some reason. I just completely restarted after that. Every time I would try to load my old saves, it would just get stuck on the loading screen.

So I dug my old save file up and switched it out, and it said I was doing the unmoored world but it was a completely different character when I loaded it in. Sometimes it'll show the unmoored background and have the II on the splash screen, other times it won't. It's just a mess.

For the love of god, can someone fucking explain how can you make two characters and swap saves between them? The description is fucking dogshit and I wish IT dudes for once learned how to write clear instructions.

You're not making it appealing to respond, but hey, I tend to be a nice IT dude.

It's literally a tool to manage backups for a plethora of use cases, switching between characters is only one of many.

      1. Run the tool, let it make a backup.
      2. Press new game in-game, start a new character and let it make a backup again.

You can now switch between backups of the different characters as you please.

If you need an explanation on all the different UI elements and how they can help you manage your backups even further, give the little help icon in the top-right a try.

I did that. Made even separate backup paths, and either I nuked my old NG+ before finding it in steam userdata saves, which however completely erased the new game one. So no, I have no idea how this works then, hence why I'm so pissed.

The mod creator is not responsible for your incompetence. If you nuked your save files, that's on you. Don't come taking it out on other people, especially not someone who put in their free time to try and help the community.

Sure guys, but then maybe write clear instructions. There's no word on should you disable cloud? Do you manually move the saves from backup paths to where steam is saving your user data? I love how you say 'skill issue', but I'm not fucking stupid, I can follow instructions if they're clearly written. Alas, I guess you and the modder are the similar sort who cannot explain shit.

Because that's a solution other people have resorted too. I use my own tool with Cloud Saves enabled and it works fine, you just have to make sure you make your changes while the game is running and then restart, because upon starting the game Steam will revert saves to whatever is in the Cloud, but it will upload whatever is active upon closing the game.

If you nuked your saves with the latest version, it has safe delete on by default, so everything should be in your recycle bin. If not, it's something else that nuked it, not the tool.

I calmed down, anyway. I managed to restore my old playthrough because of the cloud I think, frankly I have no idea what happened, when I tried to start a new game, I made a new character but next time I booted it it had again my pre-NG+ post game save, the saves were all noted in the save manager. Eventually I gave up trying to make a separate character work and just kept my NG+, I still have no idea how to create a new game, while being able to switch to my NG+ one, other than just disable cloud compeletely.

hi, thank you for making this mod :D
from my understanding, you can use this to have multiple characters right?
I was wondering if it'd mess with your pawns showing up online having multiple pawns from different save backups? >:

From what I understood it works fine! The game can at some point remove your old pawns from the Rift. So a party of your own Pawns is hard to keep going.

How do you update the DD2 Save Manger? I know its a dumb question what I am really asking when I download the new updated file and run it will it just update and all my save will be their? Or do you have to do the update another way and if I will lose the saves ill just stay on 1.2.1

Just re-extract over the application files :) Your backups are not located there (unless you configured it to do that), and even then overwriting it safe.

This manager is god tier with how simple it is to use and function. Saved me a lot of headaches in today alone thanks to CAPCOMS garbage ass save system.

Liked this manager so much that I had to donate $5 to the arthor. Thanks, my guy.

thx for the save manager tool, but when I try to load my backup save where it has a option to start new game plus, it instead showed the unmoored world background and music and the only two save option is "load from last save" which loads from my other character backup save even though my other character save is not even in the unmoored world and "start new game". any fix?

    edit: corrections
