When using a shield, a fighter (knight, warrior, whatever the case me be IRL) does not need armor on their shielded arm, typically their left arm. It would just weight them down.

I'd bet money this is exactly why they chose to hide certain parts of armor when a shield is equipped.

I mean, would YOU want your shield arm, an item that is already a huge weight on your arm, ALSO being weighed down by armor you DON'T need because you have a shield?

While I can say I agree on the logical, perhaps even base game functionality of the choice one of the things I noticed that was the reason for this 'remake of this mod was the base guardian armor set; the first picture in the selection and the banner. The logic follows to keep the weight down on late game sets because, let's be honest, they are overbuilt and heavily chonked out -- for lack of a better word -- and mostly have underarmor that at least cover the exposed gap.

Guardian Plate and Meloirean don't, and they simply have an exposed bit of arming jacket between the upper cannon and the odd, gorget only upper chest portion of the cuirass with the bevor at least. The argument could be made that the soldier bearing a shield could lose it in the fray, for one reason or another, and having a complete upper body harness would at least be preferable to not, not to even mention the absurdly weird breastplateless cuirass in general between those two. One could also argue having a full harness of armor at all would render a shield moot, but that doesn't account for, well. Dragons.

Against purely human adversaries, it follows to use what humanity has learned in armor design, however for combating monsters whose strength could quite possibly annihilate the materials of said armors, it might be prudent to have the extra protection. Extra weight be damned if a hobgoblin could cleave a cheaply made breastplate in twain with a jumping attack akin to a lance, or a cyclops' tree trunk club could bat you aside and cave in the armor entire. This is even assuming you would want heavy full harness against such threats and not go for an entirely light and agile approach like the thief or archer archetypes, or even mages, to render such issues of material resistance a non issue and just hope you don't get nailed by an arrow the length of your leg.

Truthfully though, the enjoyable conversations about armor logic and such aside -- no sarcasm by the way, I truly enjoy the dialogue -- I mostly remade it so people at least had the option, and I was somewhat annoyed primarily how the pauldrons for the guardian/meloirean plate disappeared from most of my edits in the other mod I made. Or even the vocation overhaul mod which I am blanking on the name that added in a shieldless fighter block to restore the missing armor pieces. Options!

Does this apply to any other armors or just the ones shown in the images tab?

It should apply to all armors that have pauldrons or parts in general hidden by the Fighter and Mystic Spearhand vocations. Should being the operative word.

It shouldn't be; I've been running this mod and the one you mentioned for the past few days with no issue.

The only thing I could think of is either an incompatibility with something else (of which I couldn't guess what would conflict), a game update that happened last night (unlikely), or a fluke as I loaded this up and it seems fine on my end.

I'm using the upscaled texture mod and I think it conflicts that - also got a black screen. Only conflict I can think of.

Would you mind also fixing the Creedbound Armor for both the Fighter and the Mystic Spearhand? The Creedbound Armor can only be used by those two vocations, but for whatever reason Capcom decided to remove the left gauntlet when you equip a shield or a duospear, which kind of makes it impossible to ever see the left gauntlet.

Unless I'm mistaken, this mod aught to do the trick, buuut I'm not entirely sure if it does. I'll dig and see if it does, but if not I'll see what I can do!

After a test, the gauntlet is indeed kept on the Creedbound armor when using a duospear; the mod should work across the board!

Thank you kindly, even though I wouldn't go that far!

Yeah, it was bothering the s#*! out of me too; finally broke down and figured out how to recreate the mod and while simple as hell to actually make it, it definitely was an odd learning curve. Glad you enjoy it! :]
