What this mod really is, is a major enhancement to the Pawn Manager mod.  It gives the player the ability to easily manipulate their pawns by extracting pawn info, stats, etc. from the save file.  If your hired pawn has some weapon or armor that you would like, Pawn Manager (as augmented by the config.xml file included with the mod) will give you the game ID number that you can transfer to your main pawn by entering that number into the corresponding slot.  It is also easy to change  the inclinations of all three pawns to the ones you want.  Thanks for this mod.

Thanks! Yes, the mod can be used in a variety of ways and Rook preset is really just an example. I myself use this to create and maintain my own collection of offline pawns that I level up with the character. They gain new knowledge and learn about each other as I play, and any new gear that I give them in-game, gets saved in their presets. This allows me to dismiss and re-hire them without the loss of anything they've learned. And of course you can manage everything else about the pawns as well.

I was actually going to upload something similar to this soon, but I don't want it to feel too similar. Would you be okay with me publishing mine? I was going to call it "Super Rook", I made him level 200 with good mage inclinations and max pawn knowledge.

Also, how did you make it gifted items? It won't let me upgrade his equipment at all, or give him a Wyrmking Ring. I feel like I should note I'm editing actual Rook, and not making an offline pawn copy of him.

Rook is an offline pawn, so not sure what you mean. I recruited him and simply equipped what I wanted through normal methods, I have no cheats activated for that. But keep in mind that special items or rarified items cannot be given to support pawns. This applies to many Bitterblack Isles items, so I gave Rook regular gear upgraded to 3 stars (as and when, I'm only level 25 at this point).

Of course you can publish your version of Rook, no need to ask! I play with a slow leveling mod, so I'm more interested in anything under level 50. I also didn't give him any knowledge and let him learn as we go. Pawns are very good at learning and not having advance knowledge stops them from constantly telling me what to do. "I go where I please, besides."

      Thanks!

I was referring to this part in the description: "His gear is largely left original, but several pieces replaced by "gifted" items which allows to upgrade them." I was trying to upgrade his equipment, as in his base equipment that he starts with, but it wouldn't let me. In the XFS file, I changed the values to what I thought they should be for upgraded items, I made a save with Rook immediately after he first appears in Cassardis that has his equipment upgraded, and took from that save file's XFS to make sure the values were all the same.

But, I haven't been able to upgrade it at all, I've tried 3 stars and Gold Forged Multiple times but it never worked. I can of course use Dinput to upgrade his equipment, but I was trying to get it so that he came like that by default, so that the mod wouldn't need people to do extra steps. Is it possible to make them have upgraded equipment by default, right out of the Rift?

And if you were referring to him being an offline pawn, I simply meant that I wasn't taking his appearance and applying it to another offline pawn, I'm editing original Rook.

I see, you are editing Rook's preset in the Rift, right? I don't. I work exclusively with the pawn in your save. So if Rook dies and has to be recruited again, he reverts to defaults in the Rift. In a way, my method is not a mod at all as it doesn't modify any files but creates an additional one, a separate Rook preset.

To upgrade his equipment in-game, simply buy the same item as what he's wearing and gift it to him replacing the original. It can then be upgraded in-game up to 3 stars with any smith. You cannot rarify it with Barroch though, as that service is not available for support pawns. But of course that's not possible right at the start. That's where my preset comes in: you meet Rook as he is by default, level 6 and plain gear, you make a save, then you overwrite his level 6 self with my level 26 preset (or your level 200 preset). But to create that preset, I gifted him items in game when my character was level 25 and I could buy that same gear in shops in Gran Soren and had materials to upgrade them.

The way I understand it, if you wanted Rook to come out of the Rift with different gear, stats or whatever else, you'd need to modify his preset in the Rift, that is the system preset rather than his data in your save file, as explained here: Tutorial On Modifying Offline Pawn. But that was too complicated for me as a starter, and I found Pawn Manager to do what I wanted, so took the easy way. I mod Oblivion, I never tried anything with Dragon's Dogma before (and only just switched to playing it on PC as well).

Ohhh I see, I'm familiar with that tutorial, it's how I edited Rook's data in the first place. I misunderstood how you did your mod. Thanks for the explanation :)

By the way, I was able to equip Vagabond Armour on him through D8input Hooks - the game does not allow it to be equipped in the normal way. Beware however that D8input Hooks ignored the 3 star upgrade and removed his jerkin for some reason (removed upper body clothing but saved the armour, but without the upgrades). So I then imported him in Pawn Manager and fixed up everything there. So it is possible, just not straightforward. You should be able to equip the Wyrmking ring this way.
