Mod wouldn't work, found a solution. You need to rename the new files with the number sequence. Remove the number sequence from the file name, and change the file extension to ".tex", and then replace the original .tex files with those renamed files. Then it should work. (This is for using arc file merger, not with NMM or Vortex for those who would be confused.)

I need help. i can't figure out how to use the arc thing. i don't understand coding or whatever it is. Can someone please walk me through it slowly and with small words a dummy like me could understand? or maybe a step by step with great detail either works.
EDIT: this is how you manually mod the game without vortex or some other mod manager. Link for arctools: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=601818667 Remember you want the arctool.exe itself and only the pc_dd.bat. There are other pc_ bat files in that download but they are for other games like for example pc_re.bat is for modding resident evil.
The games hide lots of files and folder into .arc files. You need to "unpack" these files to get into the folder they contain. You then can replace textures or files etc and you then have to repack into an arc file again.
To unpack you essentially make a "new folder" put in the arctool.exe and the pc_dd.bat file that goes with it.
Then you add in which ever .arc file you want to unpack into the new folder, in this case it would be the "game_main.arc" file (it should be in your steamlibrary/steamapps/common/DDDA/nativePC/rom scroll down some) so you should have in one folder the arctool.exe pc_dd.bat and game_main.arc.
Now you drag the game_main.arc file onto the pc_dd.bat file and let it unpack, it will open a black window and scroll a bunch commands just let it finish. Once done you should end up with some new files and folder, one will be a "game main" folder.
From the download here unzip the download somewhere else (using 7zip or such) and choose a new minimap style you like, there is several styles. Go into the folder of which ever one you fancy and look for a "mini_black_id.241F5DEB" file and a "mini_mask_id.241F5DEB" file. Rename both those files and change them to "mini_black_id.tex" and "mini_mask_id.tex".
In the new folder you made earlier go into the game main folder that was created go to id/minimap and paste in the"mini_black_id.tex" and "mini_mask_id.tex" file you got from this download and renamed.
Next you just drag the "game main" folder back onto the pc_dd.bat file to repack it and let it do it work via the black windows again. Then you just copy paste the game_main.arc file back into your steam game folder steamlibrary/steamapps/common/DDDA/nativePC/rom.
I could not get this mod to work, even if my life depended on it. Everyone's instructions are unclear or incomprehensible. Even with Arc File Extractor and Repackager. Same can be said with Youtube videos. Nobody is direct or specific and seem to be antisocial.
If DD2 ever comes out I really hope modding it isn't this much of a nightmare. It's no wonder DD never took off with the modding scene.
Little question here... I'm puzzled a little... I downloaded your Compass pack (great work) but the only way I can merge and see it is to rename the files from .241F5DEB to .tex... Using arctools for "packing" and unpacking (batch file helps) and I never was able to get .241F5DEB files for the minimap... Tex, DDS and txt... So, in a last attempt, I just renamed it, and it worked...
Anywaym if you could tell me what I am doing wrong, it would be appreciated...
P.S. DDDA gui just gives me errors and creates empty folders...
use the gui (its much better) and leave them as .241F5DEB, you need to have single name (no spaces) directories all the way form the disk drive (such as C:/) otherwise it will error out. also you need to open the original file for the file structure so it can repack it.
The reason they look like .241F5DEB is because the modder used an outdated version of arctool to unpack his arc. he should upload a new version using the updated version of arctool from http://residentevilmodding.boards.net/thread/481/arc-unpacker-repacker-v0-26?page=17
To merge mods that using ''game_main'',and in general Arc files:
Open two instances of Arc File Extractor and Repacker.
a) Copy/Paste ''main_game'' from DD installation into a temp/backup folder.
b) 1st instance of Arc file extractor>open ''game_main'' from your dd installation, and ''Extract Arc''.
c) 2nd instance of Arc file extractor>open ''main_game'' from the mod you want to merge, and Extract it into mod folder.
d) Drag+drop modded files into temp/backup folder of step (a) that contains DD installation ''game_main''.Watch out for the required/Correct path.Otherwise mod will not work.
e) Repack the ''main_game'' from step (a),and copy/paste it back to DD installation.
f) Start the game, and enjoy your merged mods.
*This mod goes to ''game_main\id'',so,drag+drop ''id'',inside folder from step (a).
**To check/find file differences between vanilla/modded files, just google and get ''WinMerge''.It's a great tool :-)
Thanks, I already merged my files but there are many users that don't know what to do. Here is a tutorial: http://www.nexusmods.com/dragonsdogma/mods/100/?

But turns out you were right, that was the issue. Would be nice if the mod author changed this or mentioned it in the description.
Thanks for the tip.
