Hello, I like your mod overall, I just would like to give a suggestion, since I have noticed that you gave all the Gohans a reddish skin tone, and as I remember, it was more ''whitish''

      Thanks for your feedback

Here's the thing: the anime's color palettes have a lot of inconsistencies from saga to saga. Depending on who worked on a particular episode, colors could vary a lot. That’s why everyone has a slightly different image in mind of how characters should look.
Unlike animation, (where artists decide their shading), the game has multiple light sources, but at the same time, it’s far more limited.
In the anime, there are plenty of shadows, gradients, and details, while in the game, every material is just a base color and a shadow for it.
That means I have to adapt all those details from hand-drawn animation into a system that only allows for two colors.

I know Gohan is usually paler, but sometimes he has a faint pink shadow. So what I'm trying to do is find a common ground between all the different colors used. The best solution is to make Gohan white but give him a slight pastel shadow
Trust me, the colors aren’t just chosen randomly, I did a lot of research to match each character to how they appeared on TV while working within the game’s limitations. Vegeta was the toughest one—just look at how much his colors change throughout the series.

Same goes for the hair. If you look for the best available image of SSJ, you'll see it has two shades, golden details, white highlights, and bronze-colored lines.
In this game, that's not possible—every line is black, and you only get one hair color and a shadow.
I have to translate everything seen in the animation into the system the game uses.

That’s actually why, in the base game, most characters just have a dull peach skin tone with a black shadow, it was an easy shortcut by the devs to avoid this headache entirely. My goal has always been to make them look the way they should.
The game has many limitations to save development time, it's not my intention to restrict it to just two colors.
I get that everyone wants their favorite character to look great, but before, it wasn’t even close

I'll keep your feedback in mind for the next update, where I'll tweak Gohan again. Thank you

Hello, thanks for your reply and your explanation, and yes, I agree with you in everything, it is true that there is inconsistency in Gohan's skin colors throughout the anime, thanks to your examples I see it more clearly now, I also understand you in the difficulty of transferring all that in the way that you really want, to the system that the game uses, because I have made an audio mod and because of how the game is developed, I cannot change or do certain things with the sounds as I would really like, the developers used the same sound for like 20 different things, they didn't use different sounds for the sweep, for the blow to the stomach etc like in bt3, and for example I cannot change the sound of Majin Buu when charging ki to how it sounded in bt3, because it is the same sound effect as all the characters.. also they made some weird decisions with the audio system in this game. Well keep it up, you made really good mods!

I always found it strange that Majin Buu doesn't have his charging sound like in BT3 🥺

The same thing happens with Goku GT's tail. SSJ3 turns his tail golden, but Goku GT, SSJ and Goku Kid use the exact same accessory. If I modify it, Goku Kid will end up with a golden tail, so I decided to leave it as it is
I also ran into this with Vegetto SSB's eyes in my mod. SSJ and SSB are technically the same character, only the hair material changes when selecting one, so my SSB has green eyes

The game reuses a lot of assets, devs didn’t even bother about the skin material
Thanks for understanding, I’ll try to fine-tune Gohan a bit more in the next update

Which anime release have you used for color reference?

I am asking because most DVDs and commercially available modern releases have degraded colors due to poor management of original tapes, which only got worse through the years.

There are some fan projects which color corrected them to original state.

    For example:

Random release, random episode frame screenshot (link leads to Lightshot, not sure why it won't just insert it regularly. Same will be done with second example)

Color corrected version of the same frame

As you can see, the color corrected version has much more vibrant colors in basically every way. Yellower hair, more orange gi etc. Basically, it got washed out as the original tapes got older (most DVDs are based on TV station tapes since the OG ones were in poor conditions, rendering a proper remaster, as in taking pictures of each cell with modern cameras, somewhat impossible.)

To show you what a proper remaster with original tapes would look like, here's a 4K remaster of the second Z opening, redone with OG tapes which were found by pure luck. You can use them as a reference to fix your mod to the exact colors used in the anime, instead of what we have now. The creator has other DB/DBZ stuff remastered as well, some on their YT channel, some not, most notably, half of Bojack Unbound remastered to 4K (half since not all roles of tape were found, iirc). That however isn't on YouTube, so you'll have to search it, a simple Google search should do the trick.

Overall, awesome initiative! I hope you decide to look into color corrected version since it's the closest to the original. SZ is already pretty close, but there were some choices made, like for Frieza, for example, which aren't the same in original, since they chose to go with Super variant.

This might be the first mod I finally download. This is everything I could want from a mod like this, perfection.

LOVE THE WORK!  Posted my impression on the subreddit.  But I was wondering is there anyway you could upload the files for the characters separately?  I love the battle damage effects the most but I also love Super Broly's yellow tint skin they did in the vanilla game.  Maybe if you could just make the battle damage it's own mod instead of uploading each characters skin separately I would really appreciate that thanks!

Thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying it. I'm currently working on the next update for the mod. Touching up Broly Super is on the list of things to check.
Regarding your request, I'm afraid it's not possible. The mod is very large and complex, and it took me a lot of time, and I'm still fine-tuning it. Splitting it into separate mods for each character would require doing it all over again, and that's just too much work. Sorry, but no.

I'll keep your feedback in mind for the Broly revision. I hope the next result will be to your liking. I've already had another comment asking for the opposite, wanting it to not be orange.
I extract the colors directly from the anime, that's the goal of the mod. The intention is for Broly to look like he does in the movie
I hope to release the update soon. Have fun!

I gave Base Broly the same skin tone as Base Gogeta since they have the same tone in the movie.
His SSJ form has a transition shade between the peachy tone all Saiyans have in Super (like Broly LSSJ) and Gogeta’s colour

I think it fits the mod’s premise, but I’ll take another look at it
Either way, I’ll go with what I think is right for the mod

Hey I'm sorry to ask but have you tested all these to see if they work online? I've had a few crashes with characters like krillin and base vegito and wanted to make sure. And no, they don't have any other mod affecting them besides yours.

Of course! Before releasing them, I always spend 2 or 3 hours playing with a friend on Steam. It helps me check that the colors don’t look off or out of place, and of course, that everything works properly 😅
If that were the case, I’d be getting a lot more comments complaining about the same thing, or even reports in the Bug section

Hope you can sort it out! 🙂
Maybe try verifying the integrity of the files?
  9. Awesome work that you're doing. Keep it up!

this looks really good on most of the characters but I feel like a lot of the darker skinned characters are too pale like raditz, nappa, bardock, super broly and all of his forms, also I feel like LSSJ Z broly skin is too saturated, his skin is normally pretty gray and muted (pic below for reference)

Raditz isn’t that dark. He shares the same pale peach tone as Vegeta
Bardock and Nappa share the Base Broly Z colors
Broly Super shares the same color palette as Gogeta Super. They literally have the same color scheme in the movie

Take some screenshots and check them on your phone or on a well calibrated monitor. I also had that issue on a smart TV with high brightness, where everything looks whiter than it actually is
