Firstly, I just want to say - thank you. Thank you so much for creating this gorgeous hairstyle for us to use for ALL the races regardless of gender. I've been wanting to create a hornless Female Adaar that I wouldn't want to keep changing because her hair didn't match up with her face shape or just looked completely out of place for a Qunari, in general.
This hairstyle definitely fit the bill. My Adaar looks amazing with this hairstyle both with and without horns and I'm definitely keeping this permanently in my load order for the foreseeable future.
For those who are wondering, this hairstyle replaces both the Horned and Hornless Qunari bun hairstyle. Which is great because most Qunari hairstyles change the Mohawk hairstyle which causes a LOT of conflicts when wanting to use multiple hair mods at once.
Again, thank you Padme for making and posting this mod for all of us to use :).
I made sure to make lower LOD versions of my hair, so if someone is using a lower setting the game will then use the appropriate lower lod. I made a blender plugin to speed up that process a little here to help modders if they want to create lower lod versions of their mods.
daimm mods however were restricted to LOD 0 only. but frosty allows us to edit all LODs its just that most edit only LOD 0 which then requires Ultra mesh settings. It can be time consuming setting up the other LODs so I do understand others only making LOD 0. but that is also why I made my plugin to speed up that part of the process a little so if people did want to make lower LODs they could without having to do the little extra fidgety steps.
I also made the plugin because I do make all my mods even outfits use lower LODs for any players playing that can't use ultra mesh setting, so by making the plugin I helped my process too
I don't know if you are still offering support or if you might be able to help... but I'm new to DAI modding and know 0 people who know anything about mods, so I'm at the end of my rope, trying to get a qunari hair mod to work. It's driving me crazy. I LOVE your mod, and I want it to work so badly... but it isn't showing up for me at all.
I've downloaded the most recent Frosty (currently 10.5.9, it looks like), downloaded the mod, imported the mod to Frosty, applied the mod, and launched the game with ultra settings using Frosty. There are no other mods in Frosty/shouldn't be any mods at all because I haven't managed to successfully make anything work for DAI, despite modding DAO just fine...
Anyway, I don't know if there is some step I'm missing? I'm trying to mod a qunari female - is there something in particular I need to do in order to make it work with a qunari? Because you mentioned it working with different horns, is it supposed to automatically replace all of them, and it's just not working with mine, or is there some other assumed step, and I just don't know what I'm doing (womp womp)?
Or is the mod out of date (which is totally your prerogative too, if so)?
I know it's been a few years, so I hope this isn't a bother - I just have unsuccessfully tried so many people's mods, so I can't tell if it's Me, if the mods are old because people have moved on, if it's both of those things, or if there might be some other thing going on...
I own all of the DLC and use Origin. I've been selecting "new game" to check the qunari "horn" slider in character creation, then closing out the game to try again when the horns are still vanilla.
Totally understand if there isn't a good way to figure out what might be wrong, but I checked the troubleshooting guide before commenting, and the section addressing the hair not showing up mostly mentions ultra settings and conflicting mods (neither of which should be an issue), so I figured I would check, just in case!
Okay hmm. Well I hope we can figure something out.
what drive is frosty mod manager on and what drive is the game on? The game must be on an ntfs drive or udf formatted hard drive otherwise they won't work with frosty mod manager. Also best not to have them in any locations that don't have admin writing privileges.
You say that you are new to dai, so you've never used dai mod manager before? As you say no fmm mods are working so its either a drive issue, writing privileges or a previous install of daimm I believe.
Or did you mean only that no hair mods at all are working in fmm? If not using any non hairs test a nkn hair mod to see if they work. Because if not then it is likely one of the above issues.
I appreciate you trying to help! I know it's not your Job to help people who don't know what they are doing, lol, so thank you.
Frosty is in my C: drive in My Documents. DAI's .exe file is in my Bioware folder in Program Files. Both are directly on my gaming laptop's internal drive, not an external drive, and I didn't do any special formatting for it. I googled "how to identify your hard drive type," and based on those instructions, I think it's a GUID Partition Table (GPT)? Or is UDF a different category of "types of hard drive formatting"?
I got DAI for PS4 console back when it was released, but I eventually got it on PC too so I could play it portably/I wanted to try to experiment with mods so I could escape the confines of Bioware hair. I was able to mod DAO, but DAI has given me loads of trouble. I used a mod manager for DAO (CharGenMorph Compiler - I THINK that's the only one I used). For DAI, I DOWNLOADED both DAI Mod Manager and Frosty, but neither of them have actually successfully modded anything for my game, and I can't get DAI Mod Manager to even open now.
Do you think I should try completely uninstalling the unused DAIMM, even though it never actually successfully modded anything? I wanted to check if there were any unactivated mods in DAIMM, but since it won't let me open it now (just brings up the blank window then disappears again when I hit launch), not sure if I can. And also not sure if past unsuccessful attempts could be messing anything up, even though nothing ever visibly changed in game (no crashes, no errors, no indication at all in game that anything WAS modified)?
I've tried running the game in administrator mode with no luck, if that's helpful info.
I haven't tried any mods for DAI that aren't hair because that was really the only thing I cared about changing. What's a nkn hair mod? I've tried other DAI hair mods from various modders, and none of them have worked, unfortunately - whether it's for qunari, elves, humans, or dwarves. Not sure if that answers the question!
First I am more than happy to try and help find a solution.
Okay yeah that sounds like it shouldn't be the drive being the issue. Frosty works fine in my Documents + internal hard drive on my laptop. The daimm program itself shouldn't be the issue, but if it was attempted to create a folder in your game drive then that folder will cause issues with Frosty.
So in your Origin Games/Dragon Age Inquistion/Updates Folder is there a folder called PatchModManager_Merged? Or similar? If yes delete that folder. Then go back one folder to just the base game folder and delete ModData folder so Frosty Mod Manager can create a new one. Now I presume you already added admin rights via Right clicking then going to Properties > Compatibilities and clicked Run this Program as an Administrator?>
Just in case double check it is still clicked, and add the same your game exe. Like you already did as well. Now open Frosty Mod Manager, apply your mods and click launch. It should now show hair mods. As a side note mine should show up even without Ultra setting as my hairs tend to be made for all LODs so even if that setting somehow ends up lower again (which can happen sadly) they should technically still show up.
And sorry that was a typo. It was supposed to say non hair mod. But we can forget that for now. I am hoping this is where it went wrong, if not I shall ask some of my friends if they can think of anything to help as well.
!!!!! That worked! It must have been the patch/folder that DAIMM made, even if DAIMM never actually successfully applied any of the mods. I've spent many hours, on several different occasions, trying to parse all the information across multiple sources to figure out what was going wrong, and I was just about ready to throw up my hands and give up. Thank you, thank you, thank you for taking the time to break it down and help me. You are wonderful, and so is this mod. <3
I really like this mod! I'm trying to use it for my inquisitor when I go to begin the dlc's, but I don't seem to be able to begin Jaws of Hakkon with this hair. Is it not compatible with the dlc's?
I've been able to play Trespasser with the hair, do you have any other mods running? I will test again the other dlc but pretty sure it worked there too when I originally did area testing. I shall test both starting the dlc and when it has already been started maybe that is the difference for Jaws of Hakkon.
Can I ask which Inquisitor just in case it may be race specific issue?
My inquisitor is a male elf. I do have other mods running, and I tried starting JoH with a different hairstyle and got the same issue...the game loads long enough to show the tarot card loading screen, then goes to just black with the icon in the corner and freezes up. The music still runs and the mouse moves though, oddly. I'm not quite sure what would cause it, maybe not this mod since the other hair didn't work either.
Update: definitely not this mod! I went through them all until the dlc would start, and now I have it going somehow? I don't quite know what mod did it because I have all the same stuff turned back on. Maybe I just needed to let the dlc load and then turn mods on again. Either way, I'm glad it wasn't this one! Thanks for the help :)
Definitely something to do with this one mod, QF version, getting the exact same freeze right after adding just this one mod to frosty. Previous save with exact same load order + this mod = freeze on load anywhere.
Are you running just frosty or frosty and daimm? Also are you using the latest version of frosty. You said after adding this one mod? Did you mean using it on its own? No other mods whatsoever including no mods in daimm? Because if not then there is a clash happening somewhere.
If it is Jaws of Hakkon I know a lot of people have to disable mods before starting the dlc, but once in the dlc loading mods is fine. Very common issue with most mods and that dlc sadly. Though personally haven't run into the issue myself, but then I run hardly any mods and I play frosty only. Which is why I am asking if any other mods were loaded and if you have some in daimm
Also do other hair mods that are frosty made cause the same issue? Because it could just be the area you're loading is not mod friendly. Like jaws of hakkon. And the person above said it was more than one hair mod causing the issue not just this one which is why I am asking if that is the same for you too.
Cause if it is more than one hair, it isn't just this mod. It is then hair mods in general likely having an issue with the area you are loading. Just to confirm what area are you trying to load?
Hair mods at least in daimm were notorious for causing issues in dlc. Like I said I play with frosty mods only so maybe that is why I don't have the issue, but sometimes some get the issue and some don't even if frosty only. Sometimes very hard trying to replicate the issue.
Alternatively try loading a chargen bundle mod and see if that fixes the issue, I always have one loaded when playing the game so maybe that is why I never run into the issue. If that fixes it, then it is the game that is the issue not the mod. There are some areas in the game that just don't like mods when starting them (JOH) or having too many mods (Skyhold)
https://www.nexusmods.com/dragonageinquisition/mods/3015?tab=files chargen bundle mod is the optional file here. Hope it helps.
Hi, I am so glad you like the hair Not a silly question at all. I used the DAI Cinematic Tools and turned on the Visuals option and then fiddled with Character Lighting
i've been waiting ages for a mod like this for my QM, but i can't seem to get your mod to actually work. Frosty installs it fine but it doesn't actually show up in my game despite having my graphics on the highest settings. am i doing something wrong or is there a bug with the qunari version?
I am so sorry to hear that, it was working when I uploaded it and It should work for any setting. Do you have the latest version of frosty mod manager? If so I shall take another look at the mod in the morning.
NEVERMIND, got it working!! it was a problem on my end and my friend helped me fix it, i'm inexperienced w/ Frosty lmao. anyway thank you so much for making this, qunari hair mods esp for males are so rare and i've been waiting literal years hoping somebody would make one compatible with my Adaar's horns <3

Regardless, beautiful work!
I have a troubleshooting guide linked at the top of this page that should also help.

i have one -silly- question though: how did you manage to make the character creation screen so bright? editing magic?
Not a silly question at all. I used the DAI Cinematic Tools and turned on the Visuals option and then fiddled with Character Lighting
so what hair does it replace?
the hair is amazing btw <3
And thank you <3
Edit: image should now be working and I also included it in images. Thank you again for telling me
It's so pretty!!
