If you read the mod description, I think it's fairly obvious what the word means.
Maille is an older English variant spelling of "mail" (one of several, see the Middle English dictionary link below), which, in armor terminology, refers to what we, in modern times, call "chainmail."
The term "chainmail," however is inaccurate, because it did not exist in the medieval vocabulary.
That's why the mod is titled the way it is. True, I could have simply used "mail," although then people probably would have asked me why I didn't use "chainmail" instead. But the reason is because it is a historically incorrect word.
