Love the immersion this adds to the dalish mage on a new play through. Unfortunately It doesn't seem to be compatible with
    JX - Dragon Age Extended - https://www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/3316

I seemed to narrow down the conflict to a file named gen00pt_class_race_gend.ncs which I assume is used to check if the player is a mage? When I delete it your cutscene works.

ohh, i'm so sorry to hear about the conflict. you are correct about the script checking the player's class. i went ahead and downloaded their mod to check their source file for that script, and it all looks normal to me. so i'm really not sure why it would cause the game to misidentify the player's class. but, well, since deleting the script makes it all work, and the script isn't important for the functionality of that mod, it should be fine as a workaround. very smart detective skills on your part. :)

it's just a script that will detect what race the player is (human/elf/dwarf), what class (warrior/rogue/mage), and what gender they are (male/female). so in example, if i had a male character and was speaking with alistair, that script will be responsible for making sure i can't begin a romance with him because it detects i'm male and not female. another example, i'm a mage and i'm speaking with wynne, she will recognize that i'm another mage because that script detects my class as being a mage. so that's all it does really. :)

I think Dalish mages should have had staves made of wood, because they are close to nature and because it's easier for them to use wood over metals.

but it's amazing, yes! i'm sure many dalish mage players will be happy, when they find out about this mod. c:

This is a really cool mod! I'll definitely use this whenever I play a Dalish Mage!
