Hello. It doesn't let me download those files for the downloadable content and promotional items. I click on the link and nothing happens so I just ran the Update Addins executable to get them. Will this negatively affect anything?

Excellent guide for a first time player getting into DaO.
Just a question i have the game on steam and i did everything you did in the youtube video except for the respec books.
I downloaded all dlcs and activators, question... you seem to have the awakening dlc in the list in game so your add-ons counting is up to 40 i am at 39 because i have the ultimate edition, i don't need to have awakening as a separate dlc right? is it already integrated into ultimate edition and it will start after the main campaing right?
the extra campaigns are already selectable from the main menu i suppose that is working as intended.

      Hi,

Sorry for late reply, I just saw your post.

Awakening should be installed as part of Ultimate edition and should be seen in downloadable content (no matter what DA edition, Awakening is separate dlc from original game Origins).

You can start Awakening when you click on "new game" than select Awakening and import your character, or , you go to the "Other Campaigns" and select Awakening DLC. But as I said Awakening DLC should be seen in "downloadable content".

Try run these files from the redist folder (inside DAO Ultimate folder, where Steam installed it):

      DAUServiceSetup_Steam.exe
      DAOU_UpdateAddinsXML_Steam.exe

and see if Awakening will show up.

Hi i tried running those exe. to no avail and no, awakening is not showing up anywhere i have ultimate edition on steam.
Maybe ultimate edition is different? idk honestly ultimate edition packs everything into itself maybe that's the reason? awakening will be available once completed the main storyline?
Other than this game's working excellent with the mods isntalled.
That's really weird because it's also vanilla behaviour awakening doesn't show up.

ok apparently re running again those exe's now awakening is showing up thank you for the tip!
I must say origins on steam is really not user friendly.
even to the point of missing an expansion additional campaigns and premium dlcs

Glad to hear you managed to fix it and now it's working! Enjoy DA:O :).

Yes sadly Ultimate edition of Dragon Age Origins on Steam is "half baked", because of that I always recommend, if available, to use original DA:O and DA:A on Steam than install DLCs and mods manually or just use EA App (Origin) version. Even GoG DA:O Ultimate edition have issues with some dlc's not activating and some admin rights.

One last question is it normal that the game starts to slow down after a bit of hours playing? like dialogue lag, stutter, exiting a dialogue in a camp took me 6 seconds.  i already had problems with the witcher 1 using texture mods and had to remove them is here the same or is this also vanilla behaviour?
i suspect the latter but you never know my pc is powerful so that's out of the question.
i read somewhere if you lock it to only use one processor it fixs most of it. sorry to bother with so many question there isn't really a place up to date enough to ask questions around.

Engine in wich they made Witcher 1 is Bioware engine they used for DA:O, they just tweaked it. They wrote their own engine for Witcher 2+ games. That old engine can be a little bit problematic.

First be sure you applied LAA patch (4GB patch). Yes that fix with processor cores can help for some folks (you can try 1 or 2 cores). Also high single core cpu frequency helps a lot as well.

Personally I didn't had big stutter , after hours of playing (or sometimes if you save/load lot of times) it knows to micro stutter during gameplay and loading times to be like 1-2s longer but there shouldn't stutter as big as you described.

Try cpu core fix (try with 1 , then 2 cores). But you can always exit/enter the game after like 3h+ of play.

yes, the game has a known memory leak. Saving and quitting, and relaunching the game, fixes this.

From experience, my game significantly slows down after i load 15+ different zones.

Recently some folks indeed have problem with Dragon Age Origins and Windows 11 (without using any mods). Sadly that issue don't have anything to do with my modding guide.

You should ask for technical assistance at Dragon Age Origins EA forum:
