About this mod

This mod extends the ending of the battle of Ostagar (mod contains spoilers). It adds two new cutscenes and two new pre-filmed movies, showing details of the devastating aftermath of the battle, what happened to Alistair and the Warden after the tower ambush. Lore-friendly. For all races, genders, and origins-NOT recommended for first-time players.

Marcus (Khaar Machinima) has remastered our mod's existing bink videos (BIKs)
The video package can be found under Optional Downloads.
There are two comparison shots in the photos section.
Your own images may vary depending on your PC setup, monitor, mods, and any ReShade/ENB or texture and lighting mods.

Marcus is the creator of Dragon Age BIK Improvement Konversion (DABIK)
Check it out! It does a tremendous job of refreshing DAO.
The final Ostagar battle scenes look amazing and play smoothly with this mod’s cutscenes and remastered BIKs.

See the DABIK mod page for an explanation of the process used to upscale and remaster the game's BIKs.

Please see sticky note in comments section for additional information.

Please read the description page before leaving a question in the comment section.
Yes, it's long, but full of info.
Nothing already answered will be answered again.

SPOILER ALERT:
There is a spoiler in this mod and in the videos attached to it.
While it can be assumed that most fans know the secrets of Flemeth and Morrigan at this point-
For new players who have never played any DA game or have never played DA2 or DAI
do not watch them

Following Loghain's betrayal and the ambush at the top of the tower,
both Alistair and the Warden are left to die at the hands of the darkspawn.
A gravely injured Alistair attempts to shield his fellow Warden from further harm, not knowing Flemeth is on her way to rescue them both.

This was a part of the story that Bioware chose not to include in the vanilla game.
Tinimaus and I got to talking one day and decided to create this missing part ourselves.
This is the end-product of lots of hard work.

With carefully designed, lore-friendly scenes, based partially on Morrigan's description of the events to the Warden,
our mod attempts to show this rescue.

It will add two brand new cutscenes mixed with two new pre-filmed bink videos (BIKs) that show the devastation of the Ostagar battle and the narrow rescue of Alistair and the Warden by Flemeth. It will play after the tower ambush and before you wake up in the Korcari Wilds with Morrigan.

Based on Dragon Age lore, the identity of Flemeth, and Morrigan's comments about Flemeth turning into a "giant bird" we decided that it was very possible that Flemeth shapeshifted into her well-known dragon form for the rescue.

It is for all Origins, all races, and both genders.

This mod plays after the betrayal scene.
There are two cutscenes and two BIKs.

Each cutscene is followed by a BIK- a prefilmed video- same format that Bioware uses for most battle scenes.
There are a total of 4 unique scenes.

The tower cutscenes will show your Warden, your Alistair, and your Flemeth's personalized appearances.
However, like Bioware's movies, the prefilmed sequences of the dragon shots and battlefield scenes
will not reflect either
your character's or Alistair's personalized appearance.

Because of this we had to make certain design choices that we felt were immersive and appropriate:

The Wardens, including Alistair, will be wearing Grey Wardens of Ferelden armor- DA2 original style.
We felt that this was lore-friendly and helped distinguish the Grey Wardens from the other soldiers.

In the dragon shots, the Warden (her/himself) is wearing the Grey Warden Scout armor and a hood.
Alistair is wearing the Grey Warden massive armor.

We recommend installing the DA2 original Grey Wardens of Ferelden mod by TommyIrianto for the sake of immersion and continuity.
However, this mod is not required as these were prefilmed sequences.
We just recommend it to make your experience more immersive.
or as an alternative if you want a newer version
Makara's amazing Thedosian Wardens was put into a separate mod by EspadaraThedosian Wardens of Ferelden
It also equips all Wardens with GW armor, only with the new Inquisition Grey Warden style instead of DA2.
If you prefer the DAI style, it's a terrific mod.
It just won't be an exact match.

The Alistair in the pre-recorded sequences will have the blonde highlights morph from this mod:
Alistair Morph - Highlights by rak72
It is similar to his vanilla look.
Unless you are using a very dark-haired Alistair morph, any differences should be minimal,
since the shots of him are both quick and filmed at nighttime.

The cutscenes will look best if you have persistent gore enabled.
The prefilmed Alistair will have blood on both his face and armour.

In addition, Duncan is wearing a lovely re-texture of his vanilla armour. You will see it in the prefilmed movies.
It is from this mod and a personal favorite of mine:
Duncan's armour Legacy inspired retexture by KaizokuChan

Again, none of these mods are required, just recommended, as they will be in the bink movies.

Download and unzip the dazip file, then install it with DAUpdater or your favorite Mod Manager.
The cutscenes will play after the Betrayal scene when you light the beacon.

For the optional 4K upscale video package:
First install the main file.
Then download the optional file, unzip, and drop it into your override folder.

This mod changes the endscript slots of three core resources:
pre440cs_betrayal.cut
pre440cs_betrayal_dwf.cut
pre440cs_betrayal_elf.cut

Any mod that also touches these core resources will conflict with this one.
We know of two mod conflicts at this time. Please see below.

::

Any mods that fix bugs, edit dialogue, overhaul or change romances will be compatible.
Please note the above core resources that we listed as being modified and if you have any issues,
check and see if you have any mods that edit those files.

::

Depending on your character's face and/or the cosmetic mods you are using,
you might notice the Warden's eyes not closing all the way.
This is a bug with the vanilla animation, is dependent on your morph, and is not due to our mod.

::

If you are photosensitive, please be aware that the scenes contain some flashes of lightning.

::

If you have any problems that are not already explained/known by us on this page,
feel free to let us know.
A question about something already addressed by us here will not be answered again.

KNOWN MOD CONFLICTS

While this mod can be used with the Skip Ostagar mod, there will be some issues,
due to the way the game handles running cutscenes.

Cutscenes typically must be set in the same area that they are triggered in or you will have some weird problems,
like the wrong area showing or no area showing at all. This often leaves your character floating in space.

During testing it was found that if you use Skip Ostagar,
the cutscenes with Alistair and the Warden in the tower will take place in
whatever area you were in last, during your Origin story.
(ex: as a dwarf noble you'll be in the Deep Roads)

It is not recommended that you use this mod and that mod together.

::

It has also been found that this mod does not play with Sapphos Daughters ("Origins" main file)
due to the scene triggered with Raina in the Tower
(thank you to ritchieblackmore for making us aware of this)
