Pretty sure I figured out a workaround for the permanent companion bug. FYI for me it probably happened after entering the Fade in the Mages Circle quest I think.

Anyways, to get rid of a bugged follower that won't die:
    1) Enable console. I used the 'edit a file' way (edit the XML and start the game using the launcher)
1.5) Make sure your console works. A common issue seems to be that it has an invisible font, there's a fix for that on the nexus. Just search "console" (it's mod nr. 1110 if you look at the URL)
    2) Select your bugged companion so that you control it
    3) run `runscript pc_immortal` which should set the immortality flag to false
    4) get that companion killed :)

Can someone fix this mod? I would myself but I know nothing of modding. Please omg this is such a great idea but like Arrevax and many others below - can't unsummon and conflicts with dialogue.

I've found a fairly severe glitch introduced by this mod that I haven't been able to find mention of. I don't think it's caused by my other mods; no other mod I have has a file named area_core.ncs. The issue is fixed if I remove the file from my override folder.
When I have this mod active in my game, my party members will sometimes fail to speak when they're meant to add something to a conversation.
I've managed to make this happen twice. The first time it occurred was when I first spoke to Sten, when he was in the cage in Lothering. I had Leliana in my party. When she was supposed to mention how Sten killed the family and children, the camera shifted to a spot below the map and no dialogue was heard (no subtitles, either). It happened again when I spoke to the named templar outside of the Lothering chantry. He greeted Leliana, but instead of her replying, the camera turned towards a random direction with none of my characters in focus and, again, no dialogue was heard (no subtitles, either).
I suspect that this mod forces the game to treat your summons (in my case, I had my own character summon an Animated Dead) as full-fledged party members, but the game isn't meant to handle more than four party members at a time. I'm guessing that my game treated the skeleton as Leliana (who was in the last slot in my party), but skeletons don't have dialogue or "speaking" animations, of course.
This mod has an interesting concept, but I can't recommend sacrificing untold amounts of supplemental dialogue for the minor convenience it provides.
The glitch can be worked around by unsummoning your summoned allies before entering dialogue, but this is often even more cumbersome than having to resummon after area transitions.

hey, i've used this mod and like it, but when i clicked the summon button again to get rid of a pet, it didnt disappear, as if i'd just summoned another one, which i havent. even after i uninstalled this mod and loaded a game save from before dismissing, it persists.

Only thing i can think of as to why it didnt disappear is this mod and the evocation mod aren't completly compatible. anyone got any advice for me?

One minor bug: If you have a pet summoned and respec (i.e. lose the talent), the pet still remains with you. After respec (i.e regaining the talent), you can summon another.

Workaround: Unsummon your pet before respec. (To unsummon a pet, just deactivate the sustained talent.)

I'm trying to Endorse this mod but Nexus keeps rejecting it. :p

"Wow, yesterday I have been playing with my ranger again, and guess what, I was able to re-summon one more bear and one more wolf, so I had 2 Wolves and 2 Bears, and I guess I could do this forever, just by changing areas, and summon again... So I deleted the mod and everything went back to normal, but now of course, it s the same old crap again, I need to summon my pet every time I m changing area... "

I have a question, if the summon dies, does it die permanently and I have to resummon? Or does it die like a party member and revives after the battle.
