It's pretty fun and decently challenging but the extreme lack of fodder in the second arena makes it so I spend a full minute just to look for fodder to chainsaw, then waste all my ammo in 30 seconds, and repeat. I think the second arena is in desperate need of some fodder or makyr drones.
Hey Proteh, thank you for creating horde maps. I tried to play this mod recently, but the 6.66 rev2 patch broke this mod completely, unfortunately. Is there any chance you could update the mod for the latest patch? The community would be grateful to play it once again.
Thanks for this mod guys. This really tests your skill. Feels like a complete DLC, for free. You do this impressive work even without official modding support, what marvels would you do if you had official modding support?
PS. After update 6.66 rev1, the mod doesn't appear as Trial of the Dark lord in the Main menu but just as Ancient Gods 1. Likewise, the load screens are the standard DLC load screens. You might want to look into that.
The actual arena this mod takes place in is downright terrible, and makes it basically impossible. You should not be fighting an endless horde of giant demons on a platform the size of a bathroom with half a dozen different corners to get stuck in. It sucks that such an otherwise impressive mod has to be ruined by such a ridiculously poorly made map.
so first off, i havent played;-;, i tried to play this and all of the terrain on uac atlantica is just black, im assuming im supposed to be teleported to an arena and im not, and the level just starts as normal except i cant see anything, its likely me messing stuff up with something in the installation process because every mod i download has a problem with working right, im sorry if this is a review page but im sad becuase its like this;-; if somebody could tell me why its happening then plz tell me.
This mod starts off really strong. Lots of unique fights, fights that have fun gimmicks, fights that will teach you new things about the arenas you’re playing in.
About halfway through, basically by the time you get to the Trial of Maligog, I can tell the author was suffering from burn out, and just wanted to get the mod out. Interesting enemy variety is basically thrown to the wayside in favor of wave after wave of heavy disruptors, like Barons, Tyrants, Archviles, Marauders, and Pinkies. Not to mention the ‘Invasion Mode’ fights, which force you to kill the same demon 3 times… In this section, the author takes the ‘skyrim approach’ as I would say, which means that the arena is just flooded with all of the tankiest heavy hitters the game has to offer, with no thought at all towards how the player would be expected to navigate arounds these enemies. The inclusion of Samur in one arena is pretty interesting but he mostly serves as a meathook platform
The mod starts off incredible, with some unique mechanics that I wish we could have seen in the base game, but then the mid-end game basically tosses these ideas in the bin in favor of packing the arena shoulder to shoulder with bullet sponges. I had a lot of fun at first, but I’m so tired of using the same high dps combo over and over. At a certain point, this mod becomes more about luck than it is about skill.
If iD changed the CG Shield to only work with damage done to the front, I’m convinced the late game would be practically impossible save for people who live this game day and night.
