Brilliant! Thanks so much for these instructions man! I add mods like crazy now :D Everything works, and thanks to this (and you!) I quickly learned to copy individual files from-into subfolders of the data folder and combine skin elements for characters. I take them from various mods or even from npcs or enemies to player characters, I was so astonished it works and that's literally it! :D
I don't know why this seems to be obscure knowledge!
you are simply merging the mod folders by doing this. if (any files are shared it will break the mod) i recommend { FileLoad return shamelessplug }
Thanks for making this. But your description of how to do this leaves more questions than answers. If I try to paste a folder named date into that D2RMM merged.mpq folder, which already contains its own data file, what options do I need to choose so as not to overwrite dozens of already merged mods' data with one non D2RMM mod data folder, and mess everything up?
Well just look at the content of the data folders. If you have the same exact files, then this is the literal definition of mod incompatibility. You can't do anything about it. And of course you will get a warning about merging 2 identically named folders, but it doesn't mean anything regarding the files these folders contain.
Also the basic of understanding my "tutorial" is to first understand how D2RMM works. You can find all the info on their Nexus page.
I created a font mod "test.mpq", adding -mod test in shortcut, it works OK. today I start to use D2RMM and I found the font mod failure. how could i use the font mod with D2RMM?
You do as you are told in the description of this 'tutorial' : you install D2RMM, you run its .exe file and manage the mods you want to play with. Once it is done, you click 'Install Mods'. You wait until the app tells you it installed your mods, then you close the app. You take the 'data' folder of your "test"mpq" and copy/paste it in the location already given in the description of this 'tutorial'.
