The Candy scheme lasted as the main livery till 1992 when replaced by the Freight Rail blue livery, although from 1988 a simplified version known as the red terror livery emerged from Cardiff, New South Wales workshops applied to 4469, this scheme omitted the yellow & orange stripes, thus reducing the amount of time required to paint the units, and was used mainly on non-front line locomotives (44, 45, 48, 49 classes), other locos of the 422, 442, 80, 81’s continued to receive the full candy livery.
