Hi, amazing mod. Can I ask how do you do the animation swap? I tried swapping tae in DSAnim studio too but they don't work as intended. If you don't mind I want to contact with you via discord for modding questions.

You can find me pretty easily in the souls modding discord ?ServerName? as "Astri".

Generally speaking, there are some things that I couldn't get to work: 1) adding a bullet to a moveset, because it wipes out the weapon hitbox, and 2) changing single-attack chains to become a combo (ex. greataxe 1h r1/r2 will always be a single attack that does not flow into a combo)

The way combos work in DeS appears to be hardcoded in some ways, which limits what you can actually do. If you're simply replacing attack animations in a combo, then it is probably just a matter of things not being properly formatted, like not using the correct file name after replacement. If the animation file name is incorrect, the game won't recognize it and you'll probably either t-pose, do nothing, or do a basic attack of a dagger or straight sword.

Hopefully this helps answer any questions you had if you can't reach me otherwise.

I don't think so. I modified the NA version files. The game has separate files for NA and the international version (at least for params), so those would theoretically need to be converted or the changes would need to be replicated. The easiest solution is to emulate the NA version to bypass all of that

My first ps3 game was Demon's souls, I was 9 and my mom got us a ps3 and thought the Demon's Souls looked like a cool game and I'm forever grateful for that. about a year of playing it until I learned what multiplayer in general even was, seeing a YouTube video of pvp and co op and realizing it was a must have to get wifi and thinking it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen. playing the souls series in chronological order is truly an indescribable experience in perception and seeing the soul of cinder of DS3 was the peak moment for me. It really is crazy how Demon's souls nostalgic first moments were. the vibe the game had when you didn't yet know what was coming. My whole life since then I've had those crazy dreams of playing a dreamified crazy version of Demon's souls where you get new content, waking up and feeling disappointed and I've always looked at that broken archstone and wanted so badly to go there. I'm very grateful that you made this mod and I can't wait to try it!

DeS was my first online game, so I know exactly how you feel. Thank you for the praise and for trying the mod! I hope you like it! Also, if you haven't heard, there is a team of modders working to add the northern limits as a playable area. I happen to be friends with one of them. Keep an eye out for it!

Thank you! There's more to come in 1.02, including a new miracle that I found to be a lot of fun to use. I can't add new models to the game for armors and weapons, since that's beyond my current skill set, but maybe one day. Modding support for this game has been taking big strides in the last year, so I'm sure there's a lot to look forward to

Fantastic work, can't wait to dive in!

Question: How did you make this? Did you use Smithbox or some other means? I've modded the others games (extensively) but can't seem to figure out how to mod this gem.

Thank you for your hard work!

Thank you! I used DS Map Studio, DS Anim Studio, and a few other tools. It is difficult to mod for quite a few reasons.... The file structure is different from the other Souls games, not very many people are knowledgeable on how to mod it, there's very little documentation on how to mod it, a lot of modern Souls modding tools don't completely support it, and there are a lot of limitations in what you can mod without going into hardcoding (ex. New spells cannot be added to a spell tutor's shop, so my only option was to replace what already existed).

That's great to know, and thank you for replying, I appreciate it. How did you load it in DS Map Studio, did you have to do anything special?

No, it was pretty straightforward. Iirc, you import the EBOOT.bin from the USRDIR folder into DSMS and it does the rest. Just make sure you back things up as you go. Like I said, DeS has a weird file structure and coding, so it's not as straightforward as other Souls. Hardcoding will undoubtedly confound your efforts in some way or another.

That's great news, thanks a lot! I've been wanting to overhaul the upgrade system for so long, but it doesn't work in Smithbox as far as I know. I'll try DS Map Studio, thanks again!

I'm really hoping this is the foundation for a vanilla plus style mod. Something that fixes up DES to be similar to more ds1 maybe. It's why I prefer the remake over the OG is those QOL alone.

That's actually something I've been asked to do: create a version of this that is only meant to enhance the vanilla game, such as the the new healing mechanics. It wouldn't take long for me to do, but I am still trying to iron out this mod first before taking on another project.

I also wouldn't necessarily want to make this game more like Dark Souls. There were A LOT of things it did that were a step back from DeS and only a few things it did better. Many of the things people would want to be modified are locked away in hardcoded systems, which very few people know how to modify.

Example: Carry limits are hardcoded at 99 for consumables and 1 for infinite use items, so recreating Estus is out of the question. Within those limitations, however, I came up with the best compromise possible: making grass effects a life-gem-like regen, with healing rates inversely proportional to the total amount that grass can heal, and with countermeasures against stacking the effects. While you can still carry 99 of every grass, rate-limiting healing effectively solved the main problem of spam trivializing the game.

    Very nice! Looks promising.
In the description you mentioned "negative luck" and "password downscaled", what do those entail? I do know about the wakeup thing but not those.
Also, will you do any multiplayer related changes or nah?

You can use the gold coin glitch to lower your SL enough that when your stats revert after deleveling, you will have 8 points less in luck. When luck is negative, Blueblood sword does infinite damage.

As for password downscaling, it's a nerf FromSoftware implemented for password summons that are a much higher level than the host. In Dark Souls 3, for example, a SL10 host can summon a SL 700 phantom, but the phantom's stats are substantially reduced to be more appropriate for the host's level. The Demon's Souls Remake doesn't have this, so that SL700 will be at full power and annihilate everything.

Woah yeah that's lame. By the way, do you have any footage of someone taking advantage of the no iframes after getting thrown? (no wakeup escape)
I've heard about it as I've said but never seen it with my own eyes.

I do not, afaik, but it wouldn't be hard to find. I'm sure there are dozens of YouTube videos on it
