I have doubts that forcing Preset K through Nvidia Inspector actually does anything.
There is something wrong with the game profile, since enabling Vsync through Nvidia Inspector in the Dead Island 2 profile doesn't do anything in the game. The only way to force any settings is by using Nvidia Control Panel and adding the game manually through "Program Settings", but Control Panel doesn't have any DLSS settings.
And from my understanding by default this mod uses Preset F, which is far from ideal.
I have updated my Nvidia drivers with Clean Install option to check this, and the issue persists.
I ended up buying DI2 Ultimate Edition on Steam since it's $20 during summer sale. For those who want a workaround for DLAA, I'm using DLDSR 2.25x and on my Samsung S90D 65" OLED - the resolution ends up being 6144x3240 + DLSS Quality brings the resolution to 4096x2160.
Thank you! Combined with the DLSS mod set to Quality and TheHybred's official Optimax Ultra Quality/Quality tweaks added to my engine.ini I have around 230 fps at 4K with my 13900K, 96GB DDR5 CL32 6400mhz Trident Z Royal, TUF OC V2 3080 12GB and 990 PRO NVME C:
(Provided the install guide txt file, my current engine.ini - with Dream's Engine Tweaks applied - and the text from TheHybred's Optimax engine.ini to ChatGPT and asked it to complete the merge which worked perfectly to combine with Dream's Engine Tweaks - I'm lazy, but ChatGPT does amazingly with code related tasks done in seconds)
Working great for me used all of TinyCat19's suggestions below even forcing nvidia inspector with the latest dlss preset. Particle effects look amazing in this game especially with the crisp detail and minimal ghosting of dlss4. using ryzen 7 5700x 4070 super 64GB ddr4 running variable refresh rate everything high (except for textures and shadows to medium) 4K fsr/dlss performance running 60+ fps butter
For some reason the optiscaler version just doesn't load at all, while the vanilla optiscaler works, but disables EOS (epic online service) making coop unplayable somehow.. same for the non optiscaler version, visually it's still just the bad FSR implementation..
it loads for me but yeah it disables online services..it also has issues with frame generation on my rtx 5080, adding tons of double images and ghosting
I also recommend this mod Dream's Engine Tweaks and force DLSS 4 (Preset K) trough Nvidia Inspector or Nvidia App, is a game changer for most games using DLSS!

C:\Users\Your Name\AppData\Local\DeadIsland\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor
then add this lines:
