Freakers Evolved- Complete Overhaul
This mod is a full AI and behavior overhaul for all Freaker types in Days Gone, including Swarmers, Screamers, Newts, Bleachers, Reachers, Breakers, and Hordes.
The goal:
make the infected more dangerous, more responsive, and more immersive, without sacrificing game balance. All changes scale with game difficulty. Values are carefully tuned to avoid being excessive on survival or hard difficulties
This mod was built over 3 plus days of testing and tweaking to find a good balance, but please feel free to give some feedback if adjustments are needed.
Key Changes:
- Improved Awareness – All Freakers now have enhanced sight and hearing, react faster when spotting the player, and spread awareness to nearby infected more efficiently.
- Increased Damage – Enemy damage values have been carefully boosted for a more intense and punishing experience.
- Adjusted Movement Speeds – Run and sprint speeds increased slightly (10–15%) to make chases and encounters feel more threatening.
- Screamer Buffs – Screamers now summon twice as many enemies per scream for a total of 10, and will scream faster and cooldowns have been reduced for subsequent screams. I have added a second and third file that will make screamers call 5 and 10 times as many freaks for a total of 25 or 50 instead of the 10.
- Behavioral Tweaks – Hordes and individual Freakers will notice and react to the player more quickly, making stealth riskier and combat more dynamic.
- Hearing Tweaks- The hearing of all freaks have been slightly boosted, But there are different versions available. The base versions have only been slightly boosted. But there are optional files that boost hearing x3, and even a x15. Use these versions with caution in higher difficulties as the boosted hearing combined with other changes i made, plus the difficulty multiplier can be a bit much.
- Optional Health increase- This is an optional add on you can use alongside ANY of the 'Freakers Evolved' versions you decide to download. This will increase the health of Swarmers, Bleachers, and Newts by 30%.
- Optional Add-On – Increased Horde Sizes (New): I’ve added a new file that includes increased horde sizes ranging from 125–450 Freakers. Inside the download, you’ll find 3 folders based on hearing sensitivity: +50%, x3, and x15. Each folder contains two versions—one where Screamers spawn 50 Freakers, and one where Screamers spawn a full horde (300). All versions include larger hordes and enhanced detection. I’ve also included a standalone add-on for just the increased horde sizes. If you use this with Freakers Evolved, you MUST ensure Freakers Evolved loads AFTER Hordes Evolved, or Freakers Evolved will not work properly. You can do this by renaming the pak files (example 400-Hordes_Evolved, 500-Freakers_Evolved).
This mod is designed for players who want a greater challenge and more lifelike enemy reaction, without going full chaos mode. It works seamlessly with the Remastered update and pairs well with other balance-focused mods. If you are
