+++INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS+++

The whole process should take no longer than a few minutes; the steps are very detailed but quick in practice, you'll be done in no time if you know what you're doing. The optional steps are highly recommended to be followed, but it will not affect your ability to play the mod if you don't, only it's stability and performance will be affected. Beware that the mod itself does not interfere with the ability to play the vanilla game, as you will still be able to do so by launching the game through Steam instead of the provided launch file for the mod. This comes with a small exception, which is explained in the 4gb_patch step below.

- Extract the contents of the archive into your game's installation folder. An example of the installation folder path would be "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Dawn of War II - Retribution". It is recommended to use 7zip to extract, as WinRAR tends to miss some files with big archives.

- Overwrite the files that are prompted to be overwritten.

- Some of the files may trigger a false positive in your antivirus software, namely the ".dll" files. If so, add them to the list of exceptions in your antivirus software.

- Run the "4gb_patch.exe" file, a "Select Executable..." prompt will appear; choose "DOW2.exe" and click "Open". It should say "Executable successfully patched!". Beware that players who have applied this patch can only play with other players who have applied it. Removal of the patch is explained in the second step of the UNINSTALL INSTRUCTIONS category below.

- [OPTIONAL] Right click on "DOW2.exe" in your game's installation folder, go to "Properties", go to "Compatibility", tick the "Run this program as an administrator" and "Run this program in compatibility mode for" boxes, then change the "Compatibility mode" selection to "Windows 7". Next, go to the "Change high DPI settings" menu, make sure that "Override high DPI scaling behavior" is ticked, then select "System (Enhanced)".

- [OPTIONAL] Head to the Nvidia Control panel, go to "Manage 3D settings", go to "Program Settings", click "Add", select "Dawn of War II" or "DOW2.exe". After that, under the "Specify the settings for this program:" menu, scroll down to the "Max Frame Rate" variable, turn it on, and set it to "58 FPS", then also set the "Power management mode" variable to "Prefer maximum performance". Any other alternative to limit the framerate also works, with the exception of Vsync which does not work.

- Launch the game using the "StartCodex.bat" file.

- Go to the game settings and set the texture and model quality in your video settings to their maximum setting in order to prevent some texture related issues; the rest of the settings are up to you.

- [OPTIONAL] In the audio settings, set the speaker configuration to "Pro Logic", and the frequency to "44100 Hz", with all the other audio settings also set to maximum.

+++UNINSTALL INSTRUCTIONS+++

- Go to your game's installation folder and remove the "Codex" folder (OR "DOW2_Codex_Edition" for V1.0), as well as the "DOW2Codex.module" (OR "DOW2CodexEdition.module" for V1.0), "msvcr80.dll" and "msvcr90.dll" files. Two files under "GameAssets\Locale\English" should be removed as well, those are "DOW2Codex.ucs" and DOW2CodexEdition.ucs".

- Go to your Steam library, right click on the game, go to "LOCAL FILES" and select "Verify integrity of game files" in order to remove the 4gb patched .exe and recover the original .dll files, overwriting the ones from the mod.

+++UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS+++

- [IF UPDATING FROM 1.0] Remove the previous version of the mod by deleting the "DOW2_Codex_Edition" folder, the "DOW2CodexEdition.module" file, and the "StartCodex2023.bat" file located within your game's installation folder.

- [IF UPDATING FROM ANOTHER VERSION] Remove the previous version of the mod by deleting the "Codex" folder located within your game's installation folder.

- Follow the INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS again with the updated mod archive, excluding the OPTIONAL steps if you had done them already.
